Nah, I mean I can't speak for everybody but it's a fairly common arrangement around here for cops to work OT security details (that the requesting venue pays for) at grocery stores/stadiums/etc. - all those cops you see working at Fedex on gamedays are probably all getting OT that's paid for by the WFT/league - there is no way in hell a department would shift most of its' resources to working a game and leave coverage thin everywhere else.
They should pay for it. It is the least they can do. NFL stadiums are the poster boy for corporate welfare. Sports Stadiums are really not revenue sources for municipalities. If they were, Maryland, Virginia, and DC would be lining up to pay for Snyder's new place and the locals would be cheering it on. This is clearly not the case. IMHO Dan should take a page from Cook and offer to pay for the whole thing himself. It would be yet another opportunity for him to rehabilitate his heavily damaged image. |

Not in Uniform, two different things. Sitting off duty in your car at a Mall(just an example) is one thing .Fully dressed on game day with guns and all they have to be on duty. Now can they work game security not in uniform absolutely and many do. |

Think of it as your own home. There is value in it as long as it's in a desirable location and is in good shape. If it isn't, you can still sell it but you won't get top dollar for it and that is one of the big problems for Snyder. The other is the lease deal that JKC made with Maryland , if they leave before it's paid they must pay back all the infrastructure money the State of Maryland spent ,roads ,new exits on the Beltway and a walk to train station will cost the team plenty, I think there are 5 years left on the deal(not sure). A new state of the Art place like in LA will cost 3-4 billion and Snyder doesn't have it. He's wealthy don't get me wrong but he can't swing that. |

Prince William and Fairfax County both offer OT opportunities where you're in uniform with a patrol car - Wegmans is a prime example. Wouldn't be surprised if MoCo is the same way - a lot of agencies around here share resources and work together. I'm telling you there's absolutely no way Montgomery County PD is paying the dime for 100+ officers to stand around at Fedex Field for 4+ hours on gameday - the team is paying for that. |

Thanks for the correction - not sure why I thought it was MoCo. Every state is different, and even counties can do things differently. With the budget issues PGC has I don't see them spending that kind of money on gamedays. |
Re: The stadium thread 2: New stadium boogaloo
I would love for a stadium to built in DC.....but it's looking less and less likely since Virginia is in the running now.

Sent from my SM-G781U using Tapatalk
I would think if DS offers to pay for most if not all of it himself, the chances would increase. Otherwise, any DC mayor is put in the position of spending a lot of money on someone who is not too popular. And it's not like the specter of them leaving the city is there this time around. But yes, a stadium on the RFK site would be the best. |

Virginia has always been in the running just where in Virginia is the Question? |
Re: The stadium thread 2: New stadium boogaloo
A lot like the new uniform, new name talk…..winning would make any stadium cool. It is just a whole lot of lipstick on a pig unless we get a team on the field who knows how to win games. I am way more interested in this draft/free agency period than all the trimmings.

This was not to imply that Virginia wasn't in the running......it was to imply that it's looking less and less likely that the team will be playing in the District of Columbia..... |

The RFK site is where it should be, I don't think that's gonna happen, so Va. here we come...sigh!!

Problem is money not land. How much can Snyder get out of everyone to get it built and what do you do with FED EX?

There are no bars/restaurants around and nowhere to build any. I don't see that site having what DS wants for a new stadium. |

You are correct. I was talking to someone who directs a race near Hagerstown MD and they told me the police who directed traffic at intersections and other spots on the race route were getting $80 per hours. I was stunned, that's a lot of money to stand around or sit in their car. They have now rerouted the course to minimize/eliminate the need for these police and save a lot of $. Most runners think they are volunteers and that's the farthest thing from the truth. |

Especially with these new stadiums - they're built as part of multi-plex arrangements with retail/event complexes that bring in revenue the other days of the year. I don't think RFK has nearly that much space. |

It doesn't. And the neighborhood would never go for a complex like that. |
Re: The stadium thread 2: New stadium boogaloo
It could, IF they also captured the land from the DC armory. It is essentially a multi-use complex today for car shows, gun shows etc. That could be incorporated to a totally new stadium complex. It could rival what they have done with the Nationals Park area.

Re: The stadium thread 2: New stadium boogaloo
Metro -- has to be metro accessible
If they put the new stadium deep in VA and not on a Metro .. Im done. |

It is used for car shows and things like that but it is a military facility and I doubt the DC National Guard/US Govt is going to give up any of that land. |

The watering holes of Capitol Hill are in staggering distance. Back in the day, we would leave RFK and celebrate at places like the Tune Inn. |

When's the last time you were in that area ? There is a whole slew of great place's right around there and up along Pennsylvania Ave and along Cap Hill. |
Re: The stadium thread 2: New stadium boogaloo
WASHINGTON — In what could be a major blow to plans for a brand-new Washington Commanders stadium in Virginia, state lawmakers are in talks to take hundreds of millions of dollars off the table in its bid to bring the team’s new complex to the Commonwealth.
Multiple sources within the Virginia Legislature tell WUSA9, talks are underway to slash the stadium financing package it plans to offer Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder from one billion to $350 million. That’s a stunning 65% decrease in the amount of money the Commonwealth would pony up to help Snyder build his new Commanders stadium on one of three proposed Northern Virginia sites. When asked why, one State Senator, who asked not to be identified so that he could speak freely on the issue, said “Public reaction to this project has been underwhelming. With every passing day, it’s evident the team lacks gravity.” In addition to the challenge of selling tickets, the franchise continues to operate under the cloud of sexual harassment investigations by Congress and the NFL. And with Virginia planning to pay back whatever stadium bonds it sells using future tax revenue from a new stadium, that unnamed State Senator added “a lot of us have concerns that the team has the ability to stay viable for a decade. Or even, five years.” https://www.wusa9.com/article/sports/nfl/washington-commanders/washington-commanders-new-stadium-virginia-slashes-bond-package/65-8b57a31e-a468-4054-a790-b3e2a95d138c Yikes ... I dont even think Snyder has the means/capital to finance a new huge stadium mini-city complex without State contribution. Would someone even "lend" him 1B? |
Re: The stadium thread 2: New stadium boogaloo
Bezos probably would.

Then eventually when all he has is shanty town for a stadium and his biggest sponsor left is Eastern Motors, then hopefully he sells. Its the only way to get rid of him. |

I think the disconcerting thing is the state legislature doesn't see a long term viability of the team. |

League would have to approve another debt waiver? Or no, maybe thats just for ownership of the team and the league doesnt care about how much debt an owner has tied to a stadium? Snyder accruing debt might be the way to get him out. |

Dan just dropped 100 million to buy a site in Prince William County - not far from where I live. Woo - short drive. Boo - more traffic. If it's the site I'm thinking of it's very near 95, which will have no problem whatsoever accommodating the additional traffic  |

The land he just bought for 100 million I hope he plans to use for a project after he sells the team. Once he sells he will have a ton of cash and will need a project.
