It's not a top 10 group, but they are decent. Definitely not the biggest issue this team has.
There is money to sign both Young and Sweat next year. Look at how many big contracts the 49ers have. They’ll be in cap hell next year even though they have $40 mil in cap space. Next year we move on from Thomas, Leno, Samuel, Wylie, maybe Fuller. As for trade maybe JSW or Toohill for a T.
They have $40M in cap space?! They're going to have to save a lot of that to pay Purdy.

I think there might be a decent number of pass rushers available during this deadline so not sure that this is the best year to trade Chase Young.

This is supposed to be a strong and deep draft so loading up on picks (assuming we're not getting fleeced) would make a lot of sense for us right now. We're sort of going nowhere at the moment. We need something to change the momentum of the franchise. We have for a long time now.

They don’t need him, they got PJ Tucker and then young guy from UCLA.

No, we don't need Brissett if Howell goes down - we only need somebody, anybody, to play QB. What we need is a nice draft pick or two from trading Brissett. I thought we were all done with Rivera and his Keystone Kops assistants. Remember, at this point losing is our friend if we load up with draft picks.

Said this the other day and I will say it again, if Im Harris nobody in this regime is making any decisions. They don’t like it, guess what,….

I would have someone to run any offer by that is not affiliated with the current regime. Obviously someone makes us an offer we can’t refuse we do it, but there is now way Rivera is fucking this roster up anymore than he already has.

Re: Trade deadline approaching...

This team is done for 2023. The product they have put on the field collectively over the last several weeks has been pitiful. The admission by RR that there won't be any significant changes leads me to believe we'll see more of the same for several more weeks.

The more I think about it, the more I think we should be big time sellers over the next week. An operation obviously led by the "Not Ron & Martin group". Acquire as much draft capital and free up as much cap space as possible for the new regime.

If we have a potential QB (we don't know yet), a nice corps group of players, a lot of capital, and owners who know what the fuck they are doing - the GM and HC jobs would be hard to turn down. My guess is we'd basically have 1st pick.

I agree, while we should be sellers theoretically, the only person that should be making major decisions for the future is the next GM. And since he's not here yet, stand pat with making any blunders that could cost us big time down the road, like we've done by letting Trent, Scherff, and Cousins out the door without getting worthwhile compensation in return.

Chief X_Phackter 10-26-2023 01:25 AM

Re: Trade deadline approaching...

I also agree. And if they are throwing in the towel and looking at how they can best position this team for 2024, I can't imagine the new owner group would trust RR and Co to make any moves. Smart men that they are, my bet is they have thought all this through and are ready to pull multiple triggers after this team gets their ass handed to them on Sunday. Pink slips and trades all around.

Re: Trade deadline approaching...

Just a note on the subject of compensatory picks, we will have a new regime with nearly $100m in cap space to spend, we wont be getting any compensatory draft picks for any free agents that are allowed to walk. That includes Montez and Chase.

John Keim podcast today with Sam Fortie about the trade scenarios…listen to it. Very informative.

Can’t trade both and if there is one, probably Montez. Harris should actively be saying listen to all offers and if there is one good you should probably pull the trigger. The combo of Sweat, Young , Payne and Allen when on the field together has been underwhelming.

Also relying on comp pick with this much cap room is foolish. But expect Harris who is very logical with analytics history, will be fully informed with numbers, impact and doing what’s best for the franchise with the future in mind.

That is how I have felt. Harris better be ready to pull the trigger soon. I hate how early the trade deadline is in the NFL

He also mentioned 91 million in cap space. With a better DC this Dline would kick ass, keep both and quit giving away players for basically nothing.

Things look bleak right now but if they win Sun then it calms down the wolves. There is a lot of games to be played. And although I don't think this team is going anywhere, you simply can not punt the season away at 3-4 w/ 10 games left. I would not trade anyone unless the deal leans heavily in our favor.

I thought we were the wolves.

If we do trade anyone I fear that Laurel and Hardy would be making the deal.

Would you trade Sweat for a good starting OT? I would. That is the type of trade we should be looking for, either by current player or high draft choice in 2024.

I don't think anyone is advocating making a trade just for the sake of making a trade.

I would prefer to trade Sweat or Young for draft picks and have enough capital to trade up for the best OT or a QB (which may not be out of a question with a whole new regime coming in).

There are some good OT's in this draft. The guys from Penn State and Notre Dame come to mind just off of the top of my head.

I feel like I've been seeing the opposite, at least the last few drafts / seasons with how many pretty good to high level edge rushers come out in April or have been emerging after a year or 2 in the league.

I'd be fine with trading either, as long as there is no fleecing involved

If you can draft a stud MLB, it makes easier on DT’s and hopefully Mathis or
a new drafted DT can fill him.

Re: Trade deadline approaching...

Don’t trust the current regime to do a sensible trade so please leave it alone. Plus, while CY and Sweat may not be all pros, they’re legit starters and even 1st and 2nd round picks are not guarantees to be that (too many examples from our history to name). I like stockpiling picks to hedge the inherent uncertainty of the draft, but not by trading players that are producing. I’d rather trade down for more picks or unload guys who don’t fit scheme than part with productive players.

I don't think they can get a high first for Payne. That would be awesome if they could but interior DL value can be had beyond the first so I don't see a club parting with that pick.

When you pay someone like Payne and Hargrave over $90 mil they better be worth a 1st. Payne has playing well and would hate to lose him, but would rather have proven DE’s. SF traded Buckner for a high 1st (top 10).

It shouldn't hinge on this game. Our season is done for and anybody else holding onto hope is just deluding themselves. It's obvious these players have not bought into this coaching staff. Plainly obvious.

If I were the owner, I would probably green-light Sweat/Chase being shipped off for picks or needed OL. I seriously doubt we get much in return. Hell, at this point, Sweat will net us more in return than for Chase. We aren't signing either one next year so why not get something in return.

ROFL. This ain't fucking Madden.

You wouldn't even net a 2nd rounder for Payne, especially with that contract he has. LOL@ remotely thinking of a first. Some of you guys live in fantasy land. Payne was never worth that contract to begin with, as I mentioned before.

Let me guess you probably think Javon Hargrave is a better player than Payne. Hargrave was the most coveted FA this offseason and got a similar
Contract to Payne’s (6 mil less). Their stats are pretty similar and Payne is younger than Hargrave. I agree, no one is worth that much, it takes one idiot owner to set the market. And yes Indy gave a 1st rounder for Buckner and Payne is on par or better.

I guess it's always possible that some moron would give up a 1st for Payne. I mean look what the Broncos gave up for Russ or what Browns gave up for Watson. Sure, you might get some dumbasses out there that would do it, but for the most part it's not going to happen. I agree with you that all it takes is one idiot owner to set the market.

That said, no, there isn't a comparison between Buckner and Payne. Payne has totaled 26 sacks in his first 5 years in the league. Buckner had a total of 38. Yeah, the two aren't close IMO. Payne had ONE fantastic year and the rest were pretty meh if that. Sure he's been a good run stopper but didn't generate enough pressure up the middle IMO. Buckner was also 1st team all-pro in 2020.

Sell. Sell. Sell. Lets build draft capital. Gibson, Samuel and Fuller on their last years. Trade em all. Trade Sweat or Young. Certainly not for a third like the Falcons offered for Sweat. Trade em but do not get fleeced.
