Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
People need to understand that we are gambling this whole regime on the QB we pick. Whether it's RG3 or some guy in the 2nd round. If the QB we pick is not good then the whole thing may get blown up in a couple years. New coaches want their own players...all these picks and players some people want to keep hoarding and building with could end up out the door if they don't fit the system of the new regime. I don't know about anyone else but i would rather risk everything we are building on a QB that most of the scouts in the NFL agree on then a later round guy that comes with mixed reviews.
The Manning thing however is a different story...if he's healthy and some prefer that route then I won't argue it because when healthy he's an all time great. I just personally prefer the RG3 route...
If. IF. Everyone always uses this word when referring to Peyton Manning. That seems like a risk to me. If he's healthy. Sure he is an all time great. But you are telling me that you aren't gambling your entire regime on this guy as well? What if he can't play at as high a level and does poorly? We most likely will not have a competent replacement for him at QB that can be plugged in immediately. How much scrutiny will Shanny face when he whiffs on his second FA QB after McNabb? You think people won't be going for his head then? At least if he goes for a guy like RG3 and whiffs there is a precedent for that. The only draft recently where two or more QB's were drafted in the top 5 and went on to be great NFL QB's was in 2004 with Rivers and Manning. More often than not, top 5 QB's don't become elite level players in the NFL, but when they do, they carry that franchise for years. And to me, that is worth the risk instead of a old FA bandaid. |

MS has a lot riding on this season, and I think the fan base in general needs something to rally around and to put butts in the seats. |
Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
Even just 60% healthy, Manning is still one of the best QBs in the NFL. But that's just my opinion.
I mean we just came off a season of Rex and Beck as our QBs...so, I honestly find it difficult to be too critical of our "aggressive" efforts to improve the QB position. It's long overdue |
Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
In looking at college games from last year, I was impressed with most of the QBs coming out last year. Luck, Rg3, Foles, Weeden, Tannehill. I've seen them all play and they all have the potential to be good quarterbacks at the next level. I was especially impressed with RG3 simply because he competed in a Big 12 conference that had Texas and Oklahoma as the heavy weights. That performance he showed against Oklahoma was one of the most impressive displays of quarterbacking that I had seen on the college level in a long time. I knew then that he would win the Heisman Trophy. And Baylor actually pulled off the upset against the Sooners in that game.
RG3 is the real deal. I don't see how he can bust like Russell or Andre Ware. |

I hear Peter King is now also talking about the Seahawks' interest in Osweiller. 12 seems high for me, but its not my call

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
Earlier I heard a 3 way trade was possible with the vikings moving to 6, and the rams moving to 3. I thought of something that I don't think has been discussed yet. Supposedly we wanted Ponder last year with the 16 pick. What if we straight up traded the 6th overall pick for ponder and the vikings traded their 3rd overall and some more of whatever to get griffin? If the rams really want kalil (or someone else) and the vikings fell in love with griffin, I could definitely see this happening.

I think most solidly built teams dont send players packing when they change coaches but then again most solid teams dont changes coaches that often. The Redskins are not a solidly built organization and have had a revolving door at head coach. I think a big reason the Redskins seem to have major roster overhaul with every coaching change is because the roster isnt that good to begin with. Like I said in another post, if RGIII is there at 6 take him but I dont want to see them get rid of a bunch of picks to get him because the team is still has a lot of holes to fill. |

That's outlandish. QB's go higher then they should though routinely. only need to impress one team. |

And they were a winning team at the time Cohwer left that did not need any changes. I am referring to firings where it's not going well and teams clean house. Generally in those situations new people come in and they make wholesale changes. |

They took a guy last year that was projected to be a 3rd or 4th round Guard in the first as a tackle in James Carpenter with guys like Gabe Caremi, Derek Sherrod, Orlando Franklin, and a whole host of other tackle prospects on the board. Their interest in Osweiller at 12 doesn't surprise me in the least. |
Yeah, lets just suck another year and have no hope of getting better. Maybe that will put us in line to get Barkley.
and....here's another pet peve... I guess RGIII is the only real good QB and if we don't go get him we might as well chalk it up to another suckfest of a year. Hey any chance you can e-mail all the other QB's and tell them they might as well pull their names out of the draft hat since they suck and to not waist anymore of anyones time. That would help considerably for the Skins to be forced to have to go after RGIII. |
