Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
I honestly don't think there is anyone to "blame". Both plays; 1 yard run or the 1 yard slant pass are both low risk high reward plays on the goal line. I almost say it was more risky to run ML if you feared losing yards. I mean the Pats had just stopped him on 1st down from what the 4 yard line?
ML could have have easily done this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5rQmdKKQgI PLUS NE has a top ten rush defense anchored by Vince Wilfork 2014 NFL Team Rushing Stats - National Football League - ESPN It was by no way the worst call ever made in NFL history as some say.
Plus in the regular season, in 5 attempts from the 1 yard line, Lynch only scored once. The running play was not as high percentage as some people think. |
Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
Maybe a little more motivation from lynch and the oline in this last situation though. Nothing is a sure thing, but beastmode punching it in on two tries from the 1 in that situation is pretty damn close.

Nice find. To add I would say the OLINE comes more into play on the 1 yard line then the actual back. I love the Feed up SEA fans that I have meet. Do you know how far the Skins are from losing a SB at the one yard in the final minute of play? So much so I don't see them doing it in the next 10 years. |

Not the first time ive been guilty of self promoting. Edit: game day threads are always a big moment for me. |
Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
the call was designed to get the ball out super quick. 3 step drop throw slant, hope the chip route slowed the corner enough. the chip receiver didnt chip, the corner read and broke on the ball before the ball was out, receiver didnt body enough, ball wasnt as low as it could have been.
imo wilson did exactly what he was supposed to do on that play. maybe the ball could have been a little lower but wilson did his job. <snip>
Agree. |
Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
People too hung up on the call, how about the play by Butler? If he breaks a millisecond later it's a TD. If he doesn't make the catch the Seahawks are still in business.
In the end if the play worked people would be saying what a great, gutsy call. |

Jerry Rice... the hypocrite.
I've been saying that for years, the guy is no better than Michael Irvin, he's full of shit. I remember when he got caught at the massage parlor, he said it was a joke played by his team mates. Rice and Montana are calling the Patriots cheaters cause they don't want the Patriots to be better than they were. |
Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
Michael Irvin better than Jerry Rice?? Can you explain why you feel this way?
giantone, i like you but you being obtuse at this point. your smarter and better than this.
the post i replied to 1. you sd brad johnson underinflated balls = clearly false. he paid someone to scuff them. 2. you sd rodgers over inflates balls = i pointed out that rodgers never sd he or anyone on GB over inflates the balls after the refs check them like the pats are accused of doing. huge distinction. rodgers overinflating balls before giving them to the refs, who then deflate them to regulation is not cheating. re the 2 articles you posted: 1. from the jeff blake article: you posted "Many other NFL quarterbacks have said the opposite, that they've never messed with the inflation of a ball or seen anyone do so." jeff blake (trying to get his name in there so he can become an NFL analyst) v many other QBs. 2. deflategate article - talks exclusively about old QBs scuffing brand new balls. scuffing balls is totally different from having your ball boy go into the bathroom and deflate balls after the NFL refs had checked them for regulation. im not a big defaltegate guy with my pitchfork ... but at least make counter arguments based on accuracy, not peripheral issues.
All I'm saying and trying to point out is that it really isn't that big a deal and one up (to be nice) has been going on since the game was invented.
