Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I sense it will be similar to Star Wars. Episodes 4-6 (Star Wars, Empire, Jedi) were fun action movies with good storylines. And everyone thought with improved special effects that Episodes 1-3 would be even better.
But they sacrificed character development for cool effects and it was like adding technicolor to a classic black and white show. It just didn't seem right.
See the thing is it wasn't just CGI, I think the story wasn't that great and it just wasn't executed right. Lucas really fucked up on this one, IMO. |

Into The Wild, however, was outstanding. The way it builds and then the denouement (you like that itvnetop?!) is amazing. The movie was heartwarming, heartbreaking, uplifting and frightening all at the same time. This is one of those movies that stick in your mind for a long time after the movie. Definitely recommend it.
Nice SS... looks like someone's been holding back their film geekdom from us! I think Sean Penn definitely has found his calling as a director. Into the Wild was a fine film, for sure. I did get a bit upset at the guy's lack of preparation for certain aspects of his new surroundings... but that's what makes the story so powerful- the range of emotions, as you said. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I watched The Man from Earth last night. Great low-budget (really, really, low budget) flick.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I just got around to seeing "Next" with Nicholas Cage. Its pretty good IMO. Jessica Beil is HOT.
I was a big fan of Into The Wild too. Great movie.
Very good movie. For me, it was an uneasy good movie, if that makes sense. It was one of those movies that I kept thinking about after it was over. Great acting/directing/score/scenery. |

Good way to put it. It's definitely one of those movies that sticks with you for a while after. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Saw The Strangers on Friday.
Save the $10. Not even worth the R rating... People in the theater talked throughout the whole movie and thats pretty much what made it entertaining. My advice: Wait till it they start playing it on cable. |
Re: Getting ready for an awesome year of movies
Hot Fuzz looks like it's going to be great, but I might be biased because Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite movies.
There are some other movies that look pretty good to me (the new Halloween movie from Rob Zombie, Pathfinder, Spiderman3, Die Hard, The Simpsons Bourne Ultimatum, etc) but there aren't any that I feel like I have to see right away.
Don't waist your time with Hot Fuzz. It's a giant pile of steaming crap. |

Hot Fuzz is awesome...guess I'm curious as to why you think it's a steaming pile... |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
For those a bit twisted, rent the unrated version of "Inside." It's a new French horror flick... just watched it and I still can't believe what I just saw (don't even read the reviews on it- some contain spoilers in the headings).

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I just saw 3:10 to Yuma the other night. It was a pretty good movie.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Netflixed "Ocean's Thirteen" and watched it yesterday. It was good in a cheesy Vegas kind of way. Definitely a lot less realistic than the other 2 (even though they weren't very realistic to begin with), but if you can look past that, it's a pretty good flick.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Was Oceans Thirteen better than Twelve?
I just watched Twelve the other night and I really struggled to get through it. |
