I know it's never happened before but could/can DS tell Zorn he's moving him to QB coach?

If DS fires Zorn he still owes him for next year which is like 3 mill. I guess it's chump change for him but was wondering because if DS can tell Zorn he's moving him to QB one of two things will happen

1) Zorn stays and makes 3 mill at QB coach, which he's actually good at and is humiliated by being demoted. or....
2) Zorn says no way and resigns. Meaning he leaves and DS does not owe him a thing.
Can he re-assign him to a different position w/o Zorn's consent? I would highly doubt it. I'm sure any NFL contract wouldn't allow such a thing.

Interesting idea, but i see two problems with it.

1) By all reports, DS told Allen he would step back and Allen's contract garauntees him full control. Whoever Allen hires as head coach will not want the previous HC within 100 miles of Redskins Park. It would create too many problems and has ZERO chance of working.
2) For all intents and purposes, Zorn has already been stripped of every bit of dignity he had, yet he didn't quit. There's no way Zorn would quit this job. In his three year contract, he's undoubtably made more money than he has his entire career. his wife would undoubtably kill him.

Question, Why is this thread title "Shanahan to DC done deal" when it definitley isn't, Zorns still our head coach, and who knows shanahan could take the job somewhere else. My point is NOTHING is definite yet.

I agree, I don't see the point in keeping Zorn around, or anyone else on the staff for that matter. Let's cut all ties and wipe the slate clean.

I would like to get rid of everyone, except for Kirk Olivadotti and Danny Smith. The rest can go bye, bye.

Why wouldn't they fire Zorn now and bring in a new head coach? Why not? They're going to fire him anyway. Let the new coach start bringing in people now. The last two games could be to see who makes the team.

Most of the assistant coaches are on other teams. We would have to wait till the seasons over to interview them.

Why would you want to keep Danny Smith?
Have we had one return cross midfield?

Danny Smith has done a good job of devising special teams plays. I like the guy.

True, but the new coach could also see which coaches on our roster are worthy of keeping. Call me crazy, but I say none of them.

like the one from last nights game? or how he trots out A.R.E to return punts? Smith needs to join the rest of these lame ducks

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
I have to ask who you would prefer also...

Spurrier was not a big named coach. He was supposed to be the big up and comer out of college which is why we got him. He failed miserably.

Zorn was supposed to be the non big name up and comer offensively. Supposedly other coach's in the league said Zorn would be a great pick for OC. He was going to be a great minded coach. Unfortunatly we picked up and moved him to HC.

Now it sounds like you want the GM to make the call.....what if he picks a big name? or a no name? will you be satisfied knowing finally DS is doing it the right way and allowing a GM to build a team or are you going to complain for what ever reason? I mean I prefer Schottenheimer. I don't see us picking him. I prefer Gruden next, but he's supposedly tied up in his contract.

But I'm atleast happy the team is finally going to do it the right way hopefully by picking a GM.
I agree that Snyder backing the eff off is great thing. I was listening to 980 early this morning, and Hanrahan was saying that Bruce Allen's job won't really be personnel. He's going to be an administrative guy, handling organizational structure, player contracts, things of that nature.

As far as picking players, they were saying that will be in large part Mike Shanahan's job. That concerns me a bit. He wasn't a great personnel guy in Denver by any means. Shanahan will also likely be team president. I guess I'm worried about how expansive his role will be. I'm much rather he just coach, but then again if that's all we wanted from him we probably couldn't get him.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal

You know, one of the big fears i had about Shanahan is that he'd get rid of our defensive coaching staff, but at this point, i think all our coaches need to go. Haynesworth and Orakpo are grossly mis-used. Our DBs - many of whome are talented - can't cover at all. I agree its time to completely clean house. I think Kirk Olivadotti and Jerry Gray have bright futures... but i think a complete staff overhaul is necessary to "right the ship."

I think Blache lost his job last night.
