I certainly agree that Cooley and Davis are capable of making those tough endzone catches. Unfortunately defenses are always doubling Cooley in those situations, that's why it's imperative that our WR's can make those cathces when they have 1 on 1 coverage. I do agree that everything doesn't have to be done this year, considering the fact that next years draft will be steeped with good WR prospects.
I would argue that's why Davis needs to be on the field more than he was week one. |

I couldn't agree more. There's no way someone so talented should be relegated to riding the pine, especially in red-zone situations. |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
So let me see if I got this right.....
We should let Cooley ride the pine and replace him with the talented Davis? All because Cooley gets double teamed? I would argue that Cooley is doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing. See across the board most likely someone is going to get double teamed. If Cooley is getting it then someone else should be single covered and or open, ie; Moss, Armstrong, Galloway... But keep in mind this will happen to anyone. Moss might be double covered this week, should we replace him with R.Williams? Opponents are going to double whoever they think is McNabb's security blanket. If it's Cooley or Davis so be it. If it's Armstrong so be it. Maybe your refering to a two TE set. We had one game. I didn't expect the HC to throw everything, his whole arsenal at Dallas so other teams can see what we can or can't do and game plan around it. Be patient. Maybe this week Davis gets the majority of the bulk. |

Does this make it more likely we can wrangle him away from the Chargers? Does he look or sound like a character risk? Does he look like he can step right in, and play at a high level as a #1 WR without camp, preseason, practicing, gelling with the first team, qb, etc....? What is the maximum in players/draft picks that should be given up for this WR? Just some questions I thought were relevant, especially if we are looking into this guy.
Yes. This guy could walk in cold wearing flip flops and would be our #1 WR option by a mile. I keep hearing that outside Santana Moss, the Skins don't have any weapons at Wide Receiver. The Skins don't have ANY receiving threats, period! It's not 2005. I can stab someone with my car key, but that doesn't make it a weapon. The Skins should get Jackson and should have gotten TJ Who's your momma. It would take both of them for the Skins to have an NFL caliber Receiving corps. |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
As far as the Cooley and Davis talk, we can still use both on the field at the same time with one of them lined up as a WR.

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
I really hope we end up getting this guy, he'll make a huge difference to our team, and plus I'm getting tired of talking about him all the time.
All I know is how does a 2-time pro bowler who the redskins want to dump because of 3-4 scheme/workout offseason program differences only garner a 3rd as the highest and more likely a 4th or 5th...
But a 2-time Pro WR who is serving an NFL suspension for the 1st 4 games and 1 DUI away from being suspended a full NFL season be worth a whole lot MORE than our guy... fact is..he's not! If the chargers want two 2nd round picks, then let them keep him or someone else have him... All in all....I would not pay much more for V-Jack than what Hayneworth's value on the market currently is... The risk is too high and he's going to want Big money... and we only get him for 3/4 of this season, assuming he's ready and knows the offense. No way would I trade anything more for V-Jack,than what Albert's value is... And I'm betting that Bruce feels the same way! having said that,he would be a huge upgrade and give us a big target for McNabb!
The problem I have if we make a deal for VJ how many picks or player would we need to get him. I would consider a 3rd pick but I dont think we have 1 due to the McNabb trade. So I would give up our 2012 3rd pick, but not a 2nd rd pick. If we did get VJ he then would want to get a new contract and we know how that normally goes for us when we pay players big money. I say we offer a 3rd or 4th rd pick and thats it. VJ has been suspended by the league for his off the field conduct so that is a red flag in it's self. I rather ride out this season with the wr corp we have and find a wr via draft or free agenency. Good coaches find a way to use their players strength to help the team. DT is our most athletic WR so why not get him the ball with quick wr screens and some wr reverses. DT has to much ability not to be playing I do believe when he gets his turn he will make plays. __________________ I hope this is the start for us to return to be a beast in the NFC again. So I take it you know Vincent Jackson personally. What do you guys talk about? |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
IMHO, Cooley, Davis, and DT should all be on the field when we're throwing the ball in the Red Zone. Big guys with strong hands.
I really hate to see that some people here are ready to declare DT a bust. I understand, but I just can't bring myself to believe that he might not make it. He has way too much talent not to make it. His physical gifts are exceptional. When he was drafted, we knew that he hadn't played much football at a high level and that it would take time for him to develop. In my mind, when I think of DT of think of the fact that Art Monk didn't break out until his 4th season. Art was a RB in college, so it took him awhile to learn the WR position. I stiil have high hopes for DT. If he works anywhere near as hard as Art Monk did, then I think he will succeed in the NFL. Here's an idea: the Skins should explore the possibility of Art becoming a mentor for DT. As for VJ, I think he could make a big contribution to this team but I don't think we're likely to trade for him. |

Where you set up your Receiver with short passes and count on him to get tough yards (not to be confused with using Devin to run the ball in spite of his past success on reverses). He's also capable of getting deep thanks to his speed. However I have two concerns. 1. He was amazing on kick returns last week and in an era where the wedge is illegal thats hard to find. I've never seen someone who could be successful at kick returning and offense at the same time on a consistent basis. 99 times out of 100 one of those areas is going to take a hit. 2. Are his hands and route running up to speed. All the physical talent in the world can't make up for not having these two areas handled. If he can't do this he'll be just as effective as Galloway was last week. Of course some people are taking Devin's inability to break the starting lineup a little to seriously. Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
I read somewhere the trade deadline is sept 22nd for VJ? Guess we'll see what happens tonight.. In their second game against a defense that gave up over 400 yards of passing last week. That's two weeks since McNabb got back from his injury, one more week for the offensive line to gel together (despite a weird rotating system), and one more week for the guys to learn the offense.
So today, IF DT starts actually playing, if F.Davis gets into the mix, if Armstrong becomes a stud, if Galloway - no, he's probably done.. --- if all that happens maybe we're in better shape than we thought. If we don't do well this week, perhaps that's when we make a push for VJ. Come McNabb - start making our WRs look better than they are. 5.5 hours to go. |

Cooley and Davis are two of our three best receivers. There is no reason to hide this "arsenal," as it is the only arsenal we have. Both Cooley and Davis should be on the field, either in a 2 TE set or with one of them split wide. |

When I brought up the fact that Cooley gets doubled, I was stressing that our WR's need to make the plays whenever they have the luxury of 1 on 1 coverage, especially in the red-zone. As for Fred Davis, he should be utilized more period. The Patriots are an excellent example of a team who gives both of their talented TE's chances to make plays. |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
I can't remember the last time we had a thread last this long for a guy who isn't even on the skins roster ... That being said, word is that Jackson will be a Viking Soon, heard it this morning on espn radio.
