After a night to sleep on it:

[B]First:[/B] So all the picks they gave away are technically all under the Shanahan regime. They go right up to the end of his 5 year contract, which I think is a bit of coincidence and necessity. I really think Snyder is committed with sticking to just one guy for a while and that he's not on the hot seat this year, even with one more mediocre year (unless it's a bomb like 2-14 or something). So theoretically, it's not in the past where coaches are mortgaging the future for other coaches.

[B]Second:[/B] I had some sticker shock when I learned of what they gave up, but then I realized there must of been very high interest from other teams that made them to do this. Hell, latest reports were CLE would match the deal, so I'm sure they were strong in the running along with other teams which we don't know about that drove the price up.

[B]Third[/B]: They are very high on Griffen (along with a lot of other people) and they knew their QB situation was bad. The "safe" move I suppose would be to have drafted maybe Tannenhill or sign Orton, spent the other picks continuing to build the "base", and then in the next year draft their highly touted QB. But, they got their guy who is a very good fit for the system of bootlegs and moving around and can finally say they have drafted their franchise QB.

And Most Important:

[B]Fourth: [/B] I am really interested to see how they approach Free Agency. This entire emotion behind this move feels like the Redskins of Old . We are posting pictures of RG3 in redskins gear hosting trophies and most of us have already though of that first bootleg roll out when RG3 has plenty of space in front of him. It's another big splash, big move, lots of hype, but who knows what will show up on the field.

I hope they approach FA like they did last year: making solid above average signings for reasonable cash. The only place I see them going overboard is WR. If they go out and get all the big names and bring in a ton of people, I'm not sure if this is really a new way of running the redskins.

That's pretty much how I feel. If this team is going to lose games, at least trick me into thinking you're actually trying to win them in the first place. I was pretty pissed going into last season with Grossman and Beck; this offseason I badly wanted Robert Griffin III, I can't complain now. I'm actually ecstatic now. At least we're taking a chance on winning as opposed to trotting out the same garbage quarterbacks we did last year. Seriously, I had absolutely no faith in Beck or Grossman putting together enough wins to get into the playoffs and...shocker they didn't. I'm actually energized as a fan again because I want to see how this kid works out. Damn this Kool-Aid tastes good...lol.

Look, I'm not crazy about what we gave up, but no one will be talking me off of any ledges either. It might be a tough pill to swallow, but I can do it because I think there are only 2 franchise quarterbacks in this draft and now we're getting one of them. This is the first time in a long time I've felt like the Skins are in a good spot at QB. For me, that's worth the price.

Honestly, it's a hefty price for an unknown, but he's seen as the franchise. I think if we didn't pull the trigger on this deal, there would have been more complaints about being satisfied with the mediocrity we've seen here for however long. I think free agency will be our lost draft picks. I have to believe this is part of the Shanaplan, because if I don't there's a 2 liter bottle of Everclear with my name on it.

Not only that, with some improvement (hopefully) those first rounders might be in the high twenties. :D

I think it will be huge now to make sure that Fletcher is resigned and we get at least ONE of the marquee names at WR.

My ass is only slightly chapped that we gave up our second this year. It was almost like a first rounder due to our shitty record. I can't imagine that next year's second rounder wasn't good enough. :(

The price is much higher than I thought it would be, the 2014 First was the kicker but you know what, if those are late in the first round which means that we are WINNING so I won't care at that point. We've sucked for so long that we seem to associate a first rounder with a top 10 selection. If those picks are in the bottom 10 of the draft I'll be ok with it.

The other benefit (we have plenty of time to debate RGIII) of making this trade now is clarity for the rest of the offseason. Our top question has been answered, we know who the QB will be, now we can shop in free agency without having to wonder who is going to be under center. We can focus on WR, OL, RB, S, CB with our $45 million in cap space.

I'm waking up on the sunny side of the bed this morning, we got our QB, we still have 7 picks in 2012, 7 picks in 2013 & 6 picks in 2014.

We all agreed Manning or RGIII/ Luck. So I'm stoked

Is there still a chance or scenario where we trade Orakpo for a 1st round pick this year or next? He was mentioned at one point as being on the table with some team... I assumed the Rams, but apparently not?

They way I see it is, nothing good comes easy, nothing good comes cheap. The Redskins obviously had to do something. We can talk about the team mortgaging the future for one guy all day. Well, what type of future do you think this team has without a franchise quarterback? Nothing special in my opinion. I would have been ecstatic with Peyton Manning/Ryan Tannehill. But, Peyton obviously did not want to come to Washington. And honestly, I don't think Mike Shanahan was in the position to go the Orton/Tannehill or Cousins route. In the end, you gotta put butts in seats and you gotta have an instant game changer. RGIII's that guy.

Thinking optimistically, Griffin comes in and turns this team into an exciting, deadly great team. Nobody will be talking about the bounty that the 'skins gave up.

we have our QB, no need to trade our stud OLB pro bowler for a pick that we dont seem to value to highly in the first place. Keep our young talent and be super smart in free agency.

A lot to give up. I'll play Captain Obvious here and give the super insightful opinion that this will be the start of a great era for the Skins (ala the Colts and Peyton) or push them further into disaster (Browns and Tim Couch).

My first thought is they gave up too much, but I thought the same thing when my squad landed Eli so what the hell do I know?
