Three lineman are 30. Chester, Monty, and Golston.
All potentially could be gone next year as well. I'm not really worried about the '2nd oldest team' thing. Out of our core on both sides of the ball (RGIII, Morris, Helu, Garcon, Reed, Williams, Kerrigan, Rak, Cofield) expected back next year, only Rak and Cofield are on the wrong side of 28. Fletcher, Moss, Rocca, Golston, Chester, Doughty, Merriweather, Carriker, Bowen, Wilson will all be somewhere else and replaced by younger players. Long ways away from when most of our key contributors were nearly 30 or worse. |
D Hall, Moss, Sav, London, and Rex all gone this offseason. Age wont be an issue anymore after this year, its a non issue really.
I think we keep hall |

I don't believe it's an issue either. That said, everyone we do keep will be a year older next year and we might replace guys like Rex with people as old, if not older. |

What if we win more games? Can we then say the team is too young we could have gone to the SB with more veteran leadership. |

No. Rex is eternal and will never be replaced. |

Ha, sure |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Best players under 25 on this roster:
Griffin, Reed, Hankerson, Amerson, Helu (three more days!), Morris (eight more days!), and then after that you're looking at Rambo or Phillip Thomas. No first round pick next year. Trent's just 25. That's your core heading into the future. Everybody else is fungible. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Good breakdown of our 'young' players from John Keim.

Not sure when his birthday was but he was on this list earlier this year. Here's another list to consider as well. Funny, for the oldest team in the league, only KC and Seattle have more than one player on either list along with us. |

At this point, he is what is is, which is a nice piece to have, capable of making a play, and more valuable to the team when he is cheap. He has just one more year as a cheap starter, so I don't think it's controversial to omit him from a discussion of core Redskins. Orakpo is a more important player, but whether he gets re-signed or they sign someone in free agency or draft someone to replace him, it's all the same going forward. If the Redskins were hanging out around the top of the NFC East standings consistently, I'd be all in on bringing back Orakpo, but given the position of the team, those cap dollars gained by not signing him have some value too. |

Kerrigan seems to benefit from the 'try hard-scrappy worker' infatuation that fans sometime get caught up in. He makes plays but there is far too much time where he's invisible as well. I feel you, I'd lean towards Rak being a priority but so much will also depend on coaching/scheme. If we make a change at DC and go back to a 4-3, I'm not sold on Rak & Kerrigan as DE because they're too light and also not comfortable with either of them being OLB in a 4-3 with multiple responsibilities, especially coverage. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Orakpo and Kerrigan could probably play weakside end, they are both pretty much the perfect size for that. Not sure if they could transition to a strong side DE though, and at this point, I would be more comfortable playing Orakpo than Kerrigan.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
BTW, did Mortensen say exactly how Dan Snyder has supposedly undermined Shanahan?
I would guess he didn't because I suspect it's all a bunch of b.s. Here we have a coach who is in his fourth year and is losing who all of the sudden is supposedly being undermined by the team owner. I haven't heard even of whisper of any interference by Dan Snyder until now. If Mort is acting as a mouthpiece for Shanny, then Shanny must really want out to start spreading such rumors. Does anyone have any further information about this? |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Rudy comes on tonight so Id like to nominate Ara Parseghian.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
People got tired of Gibbs' pressers too. He always took the blame and now Shanny takes none. Funny.
