I can understand their thought process where Portis is concerned. The guy has guaranteed money owed to him, from a financial standpoint it wouldn't make a lot of sense for him to sit at home and collect millions. May as well get what's left out of him and hope it's enough to help win some games.

I was one that didn't really care if Portis stayed or left, but now he is undoubtedly our number one back. Just get used to it. For the most part Portis is a professional on Sundays.

Yeah, he's got some baggage or whatever but with Betts and Rock gone, hopefully Portis will see that it's all on him and Jason. I'm pretty confident he'll rise to the occasion. We know that Jason is the consumate professional.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting excited about training camp already. Isn't that just sad.

I dont wanna be a buzz kill, but if we have a complete overhaul, at most we will probably win 8 games, which is still a huge improvement, but i know after 1 win this season people are gonna be talking super bowl.
At first I was happy. My happiness is quickly becoming fear. Wow, they are blowing up the roster. Oh well, go Shanahan. Finally a realist.
This is exactly what Allen did in Tampa...cut overpaid vets, brought in 19 new younger and cheaper, but good players...went to the Super Bowl.

I have faith in him, he's won in this league before.

I'm thrilled that Collins was cut. ARE also, but I didn't think it would actually happen.

I am not really surprised at any of them. We should have traded Betts in 2007 when his value was peaking. Randy Thomas should really follow in Samuels' footsteps and retire while his health is intact. Smoot is just finished.

All of the players have been great Redskins and I'm proud of what they've done in the past, but these moves are necessary. We have stuck with the same core for many years and haven't improved. Blowing it up after a 4-12 season is our best bet to return to success.

I said this a few months ago, but a five/six game swing is not uncommon these days. It's completely reasonable to believe the Redskins could go 10-6.

But I do like the fact that we're younger now. I mean, if you going to get tossed around at least do it with some youth and an eye towards the future.

1) Portis is our top back until we draft Jahvid Best. :)

2) forget about training camp, I'm ready for our first game!

The past decade for the most part has been a failure, I don't think people are going to mind if we take a step back in the short run in order to let the new regime get their plan cranking.

After winning 4 games last year, I would be pretty happy with 8-8.

Agreed. A lot of people around here were iffy on Bruce Allen when he first got here, but it's apparent in the first couple of days that there's been a regime change around here. It's all about process, process, process. I love it!

On another note, I wouldn't be surprised to see Jake Delhomme get a look here if he doesn't sign somewhere else.

itll be interesting to see how we fill the holes we created yesterday. We do not appear to be going after the "top-tier" players in a weak free agent class and we only have 5 draft picks. so, what's our plan to fill the holes with players that could be considered upgrades?

Maybe there are a lot of guys who will be available who just haven't been released yet.

He's not much of a force anymore. He constantly dinged up and now its worse since he's one hard shot to the head away from really having problems.

The other player who should also have been let go is Sellers. He's a 1 trick pony (that doesnt even do that trick so great anymore) that also has fumble problems.

It's also very apparent that Snyder is not in the process other than writing the checks. Allen stated yesterday that "ownership has not put a spending limit on us"...yet we're not going out and immediately paying everyone more than they're worth.

As I suspected, Vinny WAS the source of the issue, yet Snyder took most of the blame because he signed the checks. I know Snyder was the meddling, fantasy football-minded owner in the early years, but I truly believed he's learned from his mistakes and moved on from his stereotype around the league and media.

Allen and Shanahan are in total control of the show.

Firing Vinny will prove to be the best thing Snyder EVER did, even if he did it a few years late.

Well, we didn't really cut any 16 game contributers to begin with. I think more than anything we're hoping that our young wideouts, a healthy Portis, and a solid draft will plug many, if not all of those holes. And considering we'll be playing some 3-4 now, Griffin was simply expendable at his age and with the wear and tear. You have to figure that resigning Zoe Alexander was also big part of cutting Griffin.

I hope not but I'll trust the brains of the team.

He would definitely not be our starter anyways. Pennington IS reportedly on the radar.

I'd prefer to build up the line and RB/LB through the draft without picking a QB, keep Campbell starting, pick up a solid backup like Pennington and continue to let Brennan develop. I just can't trust him as the backup YET and really think Colt's career ceiling is "quality backup", not a starter...but at this point, Colt is still our backup of the future.

Well for people who are talking the concussion issue about Portis, keep in mind that Brian Westbrook was 3 times the back Portis was, and it was concussion concerns that ended his eagles career, and possibly his football career.
