Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

He’s a greedy son of a bitch. Despite missing significant time due to injury and suspension for repeated violations of the leagues (ridiculous) substance abuse policy, we rewarded him by making him the highest paid offensive lineman in league history. It was a front-loaded contract, and Trent did not complain about that at the time. No, he waited until there were two years left on the deal, when it was no longer front-loaded, when he was making less due to the salary cap rising as he knew it would when he signed it, to demand a new contract or a trade. Last year he used bruce Allen and the medical staff to try and make it appear like he was the victim. What’s his excuse now?

Extending Trent Williams would be like forgiving your wife after she cheated on you, lied to all her friends and made you out to be an abusive drunk so they blamed you for your marriage problems , and then taking her back and telling yourself it will all be different now.

No matter what new contract we gave him now, as soon as the cap goes up, other players start getting paid more, and the guaranteed money is gone, Trent is going to do the same thing again.

Let him be someone else’s problem.
I have a gut feeling that RR will not let this stalemate drag on much longer because it's in the way of setting a new, positive tone for the team. Go or stay, I'm OK either way. Just get it done quickly and move forward.
Haste would make waste here, with the draft coming up Trent's trade value is pretty low. The time to trade him would have been last year to a contender who needed a left tackle. The best move is to call him on his demands and just let him sit into the season again and wait.

I agree let him stew. Someone might come with a pre-draft trade offer if they don't think they can fill their need in the draft but more likely post draft when they have missed out. And if no offer comes in, consider whether it's worth a new contract or not then. I don't see RR caving in to either demand lightly and not before the draft.

Just another reminder how bad Bruce and Dan effed this up last year. Make no mistake, Snyder bears alot responsibility as well.

We could be sitting here with another 1st or 2nd with other picks. We lost leverage as well

More than one contender could have used a left tackle right before the trading deadline. I believe the Patriots were one of them. I was shocked when last year's trading deadline past without Trent being moved. Maybe Allen feared getting fleeced by the Patriots.

Yep.. At this point, I would try to come up with a new 2-3 year contract with a good amount of guaranteed money for Williams, or try to trade him for early 2nd round pick if Williams refuse to accept the new offer. There's no point in holding onto Williams if he refuse to play.

i rather keep TW then RK. If its Haskins or Tua in 2020 they are going need protection.

Sheehan this morning played the quotes from Kyle Smith and Riverboat Ron from the combine comparing and contrasting how each talked about Kerrigan and Trent Williams

Kerrigan:

From RR: "we love RK, he is in the plans for Redskin in 2019. Saw and spoke to him the other day"

Silverblunt Cancer Dome:

RR: "we had a good conversation, we have some details to go over" WHEN pressed by media about details being money: "we have some details to work out"

Kyle Smith: the very-Bruce like "he is under contract and we expect him to be report"

This is far from over...my question is what is Dan saying to these 2. Cause I wouldn't be surprised if Snyder is still pissed.

We protected our QB just fine last year without TW.... with a journeyman player who was paid a fraction of the cost Trent will demand. And this player didn’t miss a single game while Trent hasn’t played a full season since 2013.

The moral of this story: Trent Williams is not the only option to okay LT for us. We can get very good (and more durable) players at a fraction of the cost.

There have always only been 2 options with this situation, Redskins just need to chose one and move on.

1. Extend him.

2. Trade him.

Im fine with either ... but make a decision and move on already.

If Allen had not effed things up, he'd be here again. So I'm just letting it go.

JP Finlay on Sheehan on podcast...from sources...Trent contract demands are and I quote "staggering". North of 20 million per year and wants to be highest paid by a lot.

Finlay saying Skins will not be doing that. JP Says trade more likely than not coming

If I were the Skins Id offer him 2M a year. When his agent gets all red faced and huffy ... Id tell him me asking for 2M is just as ridiculous as you asking for 20M. This isnt going to be a "meet in the middle" game where you start unreasonably high at 20, I start at 12 and we "meet" at 16.

Problem - any trade value will be greatly diminished bc the new team will have to sign TW to a LTD and that doesnt sound appetizing. Why would you trade a 2R for the honor of having to make a 31-32 year old the highest paid LT?

Solution - give him permission to seek a trade, have his agent get the best deals he can. If the skins dont at least get a 3rd ... let him sit a year and collect the hopeful 3R comp pick.
