Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
At least they are meeting needs here. It's hit or miss here, no doubt, but the position is a need.

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Justin Tryon
Strengths: Very athletic...Great speed with a burst to close...Fluid and can flip his hips to turn and run...Can hold his own in man-to-man...Very physical...Feisty & Aggressive...A solid tackler...Gives a good effort in run support...Has experience as a return man. Weaknesses: Does not have the size that you look for...Marginal instincts and awareness...Can be too aggressive at times...Struggles to match up with big wideouts...Is not very strong...Does not have great hands...Limited upside...Two years of DI experience. Notes: As a prep he was a track All-American...JUCO transfer from College of the Canyons where he was an All-American and won a national championship...He profiles as a nickel / dime type in the NFL but could excel in that role while also contributing on special teams..Underrated prospect who could be a late round steal for someone. |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
So that whole getting an immediate starter at DE ain't happening now. I really hope we can find someone in the next round who can help out our d-line. Overall it's not a bad pick because CB is somewhat of a need.
I want every pick to be defense. I could care less if other teams are doing it.
I understand you wants for the rest to be defensive picks, I am with you with the exception of some OL depth and a 3rd stringer QB from somewhere by the way... its "I couldnt care less" Sorry for sounding like a tool but its annoying how so many people use that cliche wrong... |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
I don't know anything about Tryon, but for what the Redskins need, this is an excellent place to grab a corner.

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
DB...hmm good...although they just said he's a 7th rounder. Oh well, we need a DB.
Yeah I definitely think we could have got him in later rounds. Seems like a pretty big reach to me when IMO there were better defensive players on the board like Erin Henderson, Josh Barrett, Orlando Scandrick, Geno Hayes, DeMario Pressley. |

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
I honestly believe we could have gotten these last 2 picks as FAs

Great. We reach for a guy who was a projected 7th rounder at CB, draft 3 pass catchers with our first 3 picks, and still haven't sniffed D-line or O-line which our the two biggest needs. Not building in the trenches... This is a bad draft so far for us. |

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Yeah that idea is done, I hope they trade for someone! I still wish they would have tried to get Fabian Washington, instead of a unknown 4th rounder.

Maybe they are giving Wilson a chance? I still would like for them add a DE for depth. |

I wouldn't go so far as to say this was a bad draft. We addressed the need of a bigger presence at receiver and we have added a G to our roster. CB depth is helpful we just reached way too far. |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Im now focusing all my attention to the Wizards...the rest of these picks are long shots and most likely won't be on the final roster

having played against EJ in high school and watching him hit someone so hard, snot bubbles came out his nose, I would love to see his little (well only in age) come to washington.... Those Aberdeen Brother play some smash mouth football |

You think we could have gotten a guard taken in the third round as a free agent? What are you talking about? No chance. |

Under Sized Corner Can You Say Dime Package.not A Good Pick

No offense but I think you are overreacting. They just need to add some depth to the d-line. I mean last year everyone swore we were going to get a d-lineman and it didn't happen (did we every pick one up in last year's draft?) and the d-line fared well. I think Blache can develop Wilson as Daniel's replacement. |

ARGGGGGGGG They had the right college.. but wrong player!!!
PLeasee GET JOSH BARRETT!! |

ehh my bad for being grumpy.... I need some hair of the dog to take the edge off of last night.... you against drafting our 3rd string QB? or should we just sign a FA to come in? |

No...Smoot was projected as a first rounder but fell to us in the 2nd. No comparison |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Smoot was a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Certainly I'm not offended. But I just think we shouldn't have taken two WRs. With all the money tied up in Randle El and Moss, it just seems a little much to take both of those guys. Don't get me wrong, if they both pan out the passing attack will be just sick, but I think D-tackle or O-line would have been better picks rather than taking two wideouts. |

I did. I haven't been anywhere near a computer or television all weekend until this morning. Chaz Reinhold? Isn't that Will Ferrel's character in Wedding Crashers? ;) |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
If still available i think we should pick up John Booty in the next round...We'll get him for cheap and he is the 4th best qb in the draft..I see him like a Tom Brady as far as getting what can be a good player for next to nothing...Collins is old and Campbell isn't proven. He's a complete Qb whom i think he had a national championship he would've been a first day pick

I wouldn't have a problem with that pick. |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Do you think this is why they say Tryon can be too aggresive...

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Tryon CB was a kick returner as well avg 23.7. Well not started but down the road and learns who knowns. Looks like he has a eye for the ball but his hands come into question.

Smoot was originally projected as a 1st rounder, some time in the offseason, after the combine I think, it came out that he'd tested positive for weed, or admitted to using weed. He dropped out of the 1st and fell to us. |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Vikes just took Booty.

John David Booty do the Vikes.

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
I think the two most valuble players at our last pick were Mike Hart and Owen Schmitt. (I kinda have a man crush on schmitt)
I understand addressing needs, but I wouldn't mind adding fresh legs to the backfield. Especially Mike Hart or Owen Schmitt |
