I take adderall, which might explain a lot, and I can tell that while it does give you energy, to use it during any strenuous physical activity is practically suicide. Even the most hyper under the influence types would be winded in a short period of time. Technically amphetamines work differently on different people. For me it tends to calm me down, especially after the 30 minute mark. I still get an energy boost but at the same time I become a lot quieter. In fact my own Mothers words from when I was a kid were 'you are so much more pleasant when you've taken your adderall.' Thanks Mom. However from what I understand the majority of people similar drugs will only get the energy boost and end up bouncing off the walls for the however long the drug is in their system. I didn't need a doctor to tell me back in High School that taking amphetamines late enough where they would still be in my system after school for football practice was a bad idea. Even if I discounted the risk of heat stroke and dehydration, the shot to any semblance of physical endurance alone was reason enough. |

Wait? That's what the Rams have been doing with our picks? They drafted a OL at #2 that isn't even going to start week one. :laughing2 Guess they should have went with the Matthews kid. He's starting at LT come week 1. |

A doctor recently explained to me that a litmus test for ADD is how amphetamines affect the person in question. In layman's terms when a person beither calms down or isn't affected by amphetamines it's a good indication the person in question has ADD. A person who gets ultra hyper and euphoric on the other hand likely doesn't have the condition. Something about dopamine levels and slightly altered brain chemistry associated with ADD patients. Of course I kind of tailed off when the doctor started explaining that last part.
What brain changes occur with ADHD? Studies show that children and adults with ADHD tend to have abnormal functioning, or dysregulation, of certain brain chemicals known as neurotransmitters. There also tends to be abnormal functioning in the nerve pathways that regulate behavior. In addition, children with ADHD may have certain parts of the brain that are smaller or less active than they are in children who don't have ADHD. Recent studies show that the brain chemical, dopamine, may play a role in ADHD. Dopamine is an important chemical that carries signals between nerves in the brain. It is linked to many functions, including movement, sleep, mood, attention, and learning. One dopamine study focused on the genetics of ADHD -- specifically, on a particular variation of the DRD4 gene. This gene is associated with a dopamine receptor in the brain. What the study showed is that children with ADHD are more likely to have a certain variation of the DRD4 gene than children without ADHD. Interestingly, not all kids with ADHD in the study had the DRD4 gene variation. But those who did generally had higher IQ scores than other children with ADHD. Plus, the gene variation was most common in children whose ADHD improved over time.
Of course society calls it a disorder these days but once upon a time ADD was a 1337 survival tool. 5 Brain Disorders That Started as Evolutionary Advantages | Cracked.com
This theory is backed up by the fact that the gene associated with ADHD is common among particularly plucky and adventurous native populations. Studies have also shown that hunter-gatherers with ADHD are able to keep themselves better nourished than other people, providing them with an edge over other, less adventurous souls. Sadly, our current way of life doesn't require much exploration, so the 11 percent of children still diagnosed with this survival supertalent are left fidgeting and staring longingly out of the window while waiting for their medication to kick in.
So as you can see the important thing to remember about ampheta |

Now that Sam is with Dallas, we know that he'll be showering alone because the rest of the Cowboys don't shower at all.

Yeah that's about how I saw it. The dictionary defense is bs. BTW I would like to admit to all on the WP that I was the one who farted on Bob Costas' pillow giving him pink eye back during the Winter Olympics. Statue of limitations long gone. :joecool: |

I never understood what fixation with showering and pro sports. Granted I only played 4 years of high school ball but the only time any of us were in a shower at the same time was at camp where everyone was separated by private stalls. For me personally my OCD in regards to showering is easily at the same level as Bryce Harper and not once did I ever use the showers at school. In fact I think I can comfortably count the number of guys I saw using the showers at school from 6th grade to my senior year of high school on one hand and those select few did so wearing boxers. I guess its different in the NFL but if it really is a problem then maybe its time for showers to be separated by individual stalls. After all its not like the NFL has a cash flow problem. Though I imagine that some of the more vocal opponents of showering with a gay players would probably be the first to end up offended when said player wasn't checking them out in the shower. Like 'WHATS WRONG!?! I'M NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU?!' Honey why are you upset? The gay guy on the team won't check me out in the shower....baby is there something wrong with my body? Ummm wut? |
