Re: The coordinators
I'm only seeing that the Chargers are targeting him. There were reports on January 1 that Bradley would go with Lynn wherever he went, but that's been quiet since.
I wouldn't assume Bradley is off the board. He still has ties to everyone at the Skins. That said our situation would not be considered ideal for any DC. Our talent is iffy, and Gruden is going into his make or break year which makes it entirely possible the entire staff is cleaned out following the 2017 season. But for me Pettine is just as good a choice as Bradley. Wade was the candidate that had me most excited, now that he's gone I don't see the reason to rush.
This. Also the Chargers are not the most stable organization at the moment, with their move to LA. Their defense isn't that great is well, all they have is an elite CB I believe. I am fine with Pettine or Bradley. I think they can come in and shape our defense into a decent unit. Personally, I want the defense to improve just like any one, however, I'm more concerned about the possible changes to the offensive coaching staff structure, given that this is our best unit. |
Im lost on why people are upset McCoy wont be coming here....
Because he's got track record. Sure the Chargers offense wasn't that great under McCoy, but when he was coordinator with the Broncos, excluding that magnificent year he had with Peyton, he was able to make it work with Tim f'n Tebow and Kyle Orton of all people. |
Re: The coordinators
hate to mention this name how about sexy rex ryan not one of my fisrt choices but he is a good 3-4 D CORDINATOR either him or pettijne i guess please don,t tell me manusky because we would of hired him already instead of going through interview process

Re: The coordinators
It's more important to me that the offense maintain continuity of scheme, I'm not interested in an offensive coordinator coming in who doesn't have familiarity with Gruden's scheme.
On the defensive side I'm absolutely looking for a brand new perspective but I'd rather see Gruden promote from within for OC and replace that vacancy opened after the promotion. |

I'll feel better when a report comes out that says they WILL keep all of their offensive assistant coaches. 'Expected to' and 'will' are obviously not the same...Still wouldn't be surprised to see McVay try to get either Cavanaugh or Callahan to be his OC. They would provide him with a little familiarity, and some experience at the same time. |
Re: The coordinators
This is a relief, from Keim:
The Redskins expect to keep all of their offensive assistant coaches, a source said, one day after Sean McVay became head coach of the Los Angeles Rams. There had been rumors of tight ends coach Wes Phillips joining McVay's staff, but the source said Phillips and the other coaches were expected to stay. They would need permission to interview for another job. Phillips' dad, Wade, is the Rams' new defensive coordinator. The Redskins need to fill McVay's offensive coordinator job and could do that from within. That could be with head coach Jay Gruden again calling plays or elevating line coach Bill Callahan or quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh – both ex-coordinators. John Keim, ESPN Staff Writer |
Re: The coordinators
Welp. At the end of the day and no defensive coordinator hired nor any talk of interviewing anybody else. I don't like this. It's got Greg Manusky's name written all over it. :D

Re: The coordinators
Are there any new names coming up from the playoff teams? Maybe they're waiting for those..? Poaching talent from playoff teams could make more sense than promoting scrubs from non-contenders, if good names are available..
Our defensive talent sucks, but we have a bunch of draft picks and money this year, and even a modest improvement could mean playoffs. We're not a bad destination for a good defensive coach.. |
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports is reporting that the team is "very likely" to move quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh up to offensive coordinator. Jay Gruden would take back the play calling duties. Those have belonged to Sean McVay the last two seasons. McVay departed to take the head coaching job with the Rams earlier this week. La Canfora also is reporting that tight ends coach Wes Phillips will join McVay in Los Angeles. The two were close on the Redskins staff and Wade Phillips, Wes’ father, is going to be the defensive coordinator with the Rams.
|
Re: The coordinators
At least the offense will be set. What is the holdup with the
D? |
At least the offense will be set. What is the holdup with the

Assuming KC is given a long term coach, I think we probably would go without. He was brought in when we had RG3, KC and Colt and needed a calming instructive voice in that room alone. If we lock up KC, then a lot of the hand holding should go away. |
