Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I don't understand how Williams could have been traded last year or even now with that asking price.
I agree with SunnySide, let his agent do the work and find the best trade deal. I just highly doubt anyone is going to pay him QB money. |
JP Finlay on Sheehan on podcast...from sources...Trent contract demands are and I quote "staggering". North of 20 million per year and wants to be highest paid by a lot.
Finlay saying Skins will not be doing that. JP Says trade more likely than not coming
I wonder if it's just an asking price as the agent and Williams probably already knew any team would not meet that offer but would be willing to something close to 20 such as 18m per year or something? As of right now, Lane Johnson - a RT for Eagles is highest paid tackle in NFL with average of 18m per year (according to sportrac.com). So I'm guessing that's where Williams and his agent got the numbers from. Williams obviously knows his football career will end soon so he wants to cash in as much as he can get. |
Just another reminder how bad Bruce and Dan effed this up last year. Make no mistake, Snyder bears alot responsibility as well.
We could be sitting here with another 1st or 2nd with other picks. We lost leverage as well
This.. it was just the absolute worst way to handle a disgruntled player. Get him out of your building, get your picks and move on. |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Haste would make waste here, with the draft coming up Trent's trade value is pretty low. The time to trade him would have been last year to a contender who needed a left tackle. The best move is to call him on his demands and just let him sit into the season again and wait.
You're probably right about that. I didn't think about letting him sit at home. I just wouldn't want him to be around the other players at this point. Still, I'd want to see him traded prior to the draft so we could snag some more draft capital. Heck, the truth is I don't have any idea what to do with this problem. Just make it go away, Ron. I'm sick of this soap opera. |

Trent Williams doesn't have a snowball's chance of getting anything he wants from the Skins, least of all to make up the $12M he lost. I think the idea of letting Trent and his agent try to find a deal might work but what do I know? |

I think the idea of letting Trent and his agent try to find a deal is a good one.
I agree, give him until the draft to make his own trade that the Redskins agree to. If he cannot he will not be traded and expected to honor the current contract or lose millions more. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
No one is going to trade for Trent if he’s demanding north of $20M per year.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Trade him and Dunbar to Jacksonville where they can reunite with JG, maybe the Rams could be interested also.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agreed. He doesn’t care about the Redskins - he just wants to cash out at the end of his career. I thought he would come back for the next two years with a reasonable contract with the guaranteed money he wanted. The maddening thing is Bruce could have traded him for a first rounder AND MORE if he had managed this trade in a reasonable manner last summer. Instead he totally blew this trade, like so many other things. It looks like we will trade Trent for a second rounder and maybe something in the 2021 draft. $20 mill is just a crazy number to ask for at this point in his career. This would make him this highest paid OT in the NFL. At 32. When he hasn’t finished a full season in how many years? I’m disappointed in how this turned out. If Trent keeps asking for this insane salary number, the team will move quickly on from him with a trade. They don’t want this to distract the team. They’re going to probably use the second rounder for an OT to replace Trent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
If true that 20 mil number is absolute insanity for a guy like him.
If we come away from this with a draft pick that's less than what we should've gotten you can chalk it up to one last parting failure of Bruce Allen. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Trent isn't getting $20M a year from anybody, but if he did more power to him.
I always laugh at how bent people get over contract talk. It's called negotiating. Both sides start out far apart and work towards a deal in the middle. If a number gets your panties in a bunch you're in the wrong business. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Trent isn't getting 20M from the skins lol, he may get 12-14 but at his age I wouldn't bank on it
