WASHINGTON (AP) — A spokesman for a key House panel said Friday that the White House has blocked Dr. Anthony Fauci from testifying next week at a hearing on the coronavirus outbreak.

House Appropriations Committee spokesman Evan Hollander said the panel sought Fauci — the highly respected director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases — as a witness for a subcommittee hearing on the government’s response to the pandemic, but was denied. Hollander said the panel was informed by an administration official that Fauci’s testimony was blocked by the White House.

Fauci is the top scientist on President Donald Trump’s coronavirus task force and is no stranger to testifying before Congress. He has sometimes contradicted Trump’s optimistic misstatements about the virus and how much it is under control after claiming more than 64,000 lives in the U.S.

Fauci has warned against relaxing social distancing rules that have helped slow the spread of the virus but caused a major hit to the economy. That has earned him criticism from some of Trump's most ardent supporters, and Trump himself has retweeted a supporter who called for Fauci's firing.

It’s just important to remember the people dividing the country who have prominent platforms are far from the moral the authority about anything with the real people who live in this country. Kimmel doesn’t have to feed a family with ramen noodles or negotiate rent bc they can’t work. Kimmel doesn’t understand that people who are suffering with cancer can’t get in home care because of the severe risk of catching the virus.

Fauci blocked testimony — I think he should be spending his time working on the Coronavirus and not answering political questions at this time. I would hope when this is all done he testifies not for answering to past political gotchas but what our country should do in the present and future to be better prepared.

We will have more deadly viruses in the future, we must learn our lesson from this. Thank god the Coronavirus is not more lethal.

At most I watch the local news a couple times a week and never watch the broadcast national news. I get most my news oFf the MSN front page where I access personal e-mail and weather. I am wandering are those media outlets educating people about the proper use of using masks and or gloves? Like I said from what I see most people might as well not wear one. I find it strange the false sense of security it must give people that aren't using them properly.
