I agree, but some eyebrows will certainly be raised, as well they should be. I am going to see how Orton does with the Bears and reevaluate me having drafted JC as my backup QB on my fantasy team. This guy isn't going to be racking up too many points for awhile. |
poor play calling and poor qb play...not to mention the cb's with the hands of steel. We should have came out running the rock. I dont get it. Running the ball is our strength. Run the damn ball early and often and hell i dont know. and do we not have a hurry up? I know its game one with a rookie coach but i dont have to be the smartest man in the world to know you run plays to your teams strength. and we didnt establish that tonight. On a brighter note....nice adjustments by blache at halftime. The d that is on the field in the second half looks a lot better than what i saw in the first half. Its week one lets not burn it down yet.....as much as i want too!
Totally agree. I dont think anyone in this room ever even coached a highschool football team and we all know that they needed to hurry up. So i dont want people playing the rookie coach card. JC knew they needed to hurry up as well as anyone. |
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
pathetic. worst clock management ive ever seen at the end, terrible first half, second was a little better. the playcalling was really bad imo, im sick of these passes on 3rd down that dont make it past the marker.

Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
RNC timetable, so they had to get it overwith.

But it's also our home opener. I'd really like to think the Skins don't wanna get bent over in front of their home crowd. |

I still think part of the fault is our wideouts. I mean come on, get open somehow. Sheesh!

Maybe part...but you have to let it fly. Collins showed last year that the players are getting open, you just have to trust and throw. |
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
This game was rather disappointing. There is room for growth here. I do think the game plan left something to be desired and our expectations for a more exciting and imaginative offense were not fulfilled. The defense played hard. We will get better as everyone learns and grows. But I am not so sure I can learn to love the short passing game. We will get better.

You took the words right out of my mouth Big C. I will never for the life of me understand why a team would throw a pass on 3rd down that isn't long enough to get the 1st, and we did that countless times tonight. |

I just can't believe no one was open when Campbell had time to throw. I think JC was better and had time in the 2nd half. But the wideouts need to get open and they have to catch the ball. |
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
The true test of zorn is how he overcomes adversity. He's got a long week ahead, he needs to adjust properly.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
How about if the WR actual ran past the first down marker? Just a thought.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
This team has the same problems as it did last year. Moss still drops passes. Our corners drop interceptions. The clock management is horrible. And, we're still shooting ourselves in the foot with stupid penalties. And, when the game is on the line and we need a touchdown we throw it to Thrash?
Well, I hope they'll realize what they need to work on for next week. The defense stepped up in the 2nd half. |

Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
Flat out, I don't think the Saints have a better O than the Giants. I think the defense really played well against a tough offense. They got better as the game went on and I have no doubt they get better as the year goes on.
The offense has a canyon to cross. |
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
Zorn will learn. So will the offense. Too bad it has to happen in the season, but there's no substitute for that. Remember, it's an EXTREMELY tough early schedule. We need to have some patience. And that means being able to deal with seeing poor offensive football. There is no miracle quick fix.

Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
hmmm...one thing thta i havent really seen hit on earlier, but our whole entire teams seemed as if they did not want to play, with execption of portis, and brooks.
and plus to me it appeared on that very first sack of the first drive CAMPBELL freaking walked into that sack, he got scared and ran out of the pocket! i mean come on! |
wow,I love your optimism,I cant say anything good now, cant say I'm surprised by the loss, but I am surprised by so many things I dont know where to start
It's not optimism, it's realism. It's one game, one road game. We can't just throw in the towel now. Well, we can I suppose. But how would you like it if that's what Zorn, Blache or any of the other players decided to do now? If they just quit? We need Springs healthy and playing (very disappointed in him), we need Taylor at 100%, we need Golston back out there. We need to convert 3rd downs, we need to play Thrash more until Thomas or Kelly is ready. We need to get Cooley in the offensive gameflow from the first play of the game. We need to make plays on defense when we're in position to do so (all the dropped interceptions). It's a lot, but it's not impossible to think it will happen sooner than later |

The West Coast is a lot of shorter passes, but yeah you should have routes that will effectively get you the first down. Like I said in a previous post, most of the NFL is throwing short anymore on 3rd and long. They are counting on YAC too much. This is scary to say, but I am very much missing Norv and Gus right now, and their old pal Terry Allen. |
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
Lets run up the middle ,down by two scores. Oh yeah lets get Portis injured also. Zorns a bonehead. Im not impressed. Westcoast offense sucks. Lets go back to the run first and play tough defense days. I miss Gibbs
|
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
I was really impressed with the defensive adjustments. They will get better, and they weren't that bad tonight. I hope Steve Jackson and Jerry Gray has the DB's catch passes this week until their hands fall off because we should of had about 4 int's tonight if they weren't dropped.
I thought there were several plays where Rogers was dogging it
yeah several sure, but he had two interceptions possibilties and he droped both! you have to consent for the whole game |
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
Zorns play calling sucked. The receivers were not getting open that's why JC was throwing underneath. Poor clock management by Zorn. Defense steppd up in the second half. This shows why we needed out rookie WRs to have been ready to play also. This is one of the shittiest offense performances I have ever seen. JC didn't play great at all. But he didn't turn over the ball. These were bad play calls. PERIOD.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
I thought the defensed played well in the second half, but Smoot was a joke. He plays about 12 yards off the reciever and didn't make Eli and Burress have to work to complete a pass. We better hope that Springs and Rodgers don't miss a lot of time this year.

Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
Springs not playing really hurt us I believe if he was playing the passes that Plax got on Smoot would have been limited. Zorn called a bad game but it was his first game we need to improve in the area greatly. I'm with Madden when he said we should of spiked the ball and kicked the field goal with .22 seconds on the clock. The receivers should have known better than to cut routes before the first down mark. We lost as a team but we really lost the game on 3rd down conversions.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
Come on guys, first year coach, he can't win them all. They need to learn from their mistakes and get their act together. We never addressed our WR issue, so we need to work with what we have. Also Zorn needs to realize that the runnign game is important, especially against pass rushing defenses. Our defense did well tonite and held their ground when they needed to do so. I hope with Springs and Smoot healthy, and Taylor at 100% we can be even better.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Giants Game Thread 9/4/08
Zorn looked lost. I don't think he was even aware he was down to scores. Two thumbs down and a boot in the ass. Trash, complete trash. I mean, your first shot down field is with 3 minutes left in the game down two scores?
I don't care if he's a first year coach...this is football 101! |

well not so sure, i mean sure play calling was shitty, but campbell should get some good bulk of the blame. On one than more times he held the ball way to long, he been like this his whole career!! i mean if he hasnt learned on how to get rid of it quick and dont second guess so damn much then how are we gona be succeful on offense? If he keeps this hestiance ill gurantee you he will not be here next year, or atleast not or starte.. |
