I don't. You can't have a secondary that clueless and say that the coach wasn't part of the problem. Consider it like having a suspicious mole removed just in case.
This. Morris may be a perfectly good coach. He is not to blame when a player gets beaten physically - that's a talent problem.

But we've had an unacceptably high number of missed assignments, blown coverages, bonehead plays, etc., over the last few years. Coaches are supposed to correct that stuff.

Context matters a lot when it comes to performance. Sometimes, a person will shine in one place and bomb in another. At this point, keeping RM didn't feel right to me--simply a house-cleaning thing.

Everyone agrees we need loads more talent across the D, so don't expect any miracles. Building takes time. I hope Barry can redeem himself and I hope that JayG can learn and grow. But all that is moot without McC and co getting some serious players here. And even if he drafts well this year, we have to develop the new guys. That, too, has been a failing here. Draft, develop, keep. Repeat as necessary.

The secondary didn't get abysmally bad until Raheem showed up. Don't get me wrong the entire defense was bad but the secondary stood out as the worst of the worst as soon as Morris starting "coaching" them.

Why couldnt Morris coach up and develop the talent? We spent numerous draft picks in a short amount of time in the secondary.

Eff Morris

Breeland worked out. Amerson is still a work in progress. Not sure the safety spots were ever really addressed with quality talent. Thomas and Rambo were both later rd picks for a reason.

What talent?

Amerson was the only day 1 pick we used on the secondary the last 5+ years but we're supposed to believe there was real talent to work with? Please.

Can't coach Clark to run faster or BM to cover better. We really didn't have a free safety at all, and barely a strong, at least against the pass. Not a lot of talent. No, sir.

I think the line and the corners both looked worse simply because our safeties couldn't handle their responsibilities effectively. Not saying that either the line or the cb's are top tier, but I absolutely believe that with minimal safety help all NFL cb's would look bad. Same with the pass rush, that split second difference between getting the qb and a completed pass is often how long the qb had to hesitate due to quality safeties.

Still want our picks in the first two rounds to be best can't miss RT and S. Hopefully Scot's college study will help us get two long term starters there. That would be a successful draft, regardless of the rest of the draft. (Of course I do want more than that)

Per JLC, we have interest in Nathaniel Hackett as QB coach. He was OC for the Bills last year.

@JasonLaCanfora: Nathaniel Hackett has a 2nd interview for Rams OC job this week. BUF wants him back and WSH and JAX also interested in him for QB coach.

Agreed. There were far too many games this year where the d-backs completely screwed their assignments, leaving defenders wide open (and I mean wide open by 5 yards or more).

I'm sure talent has some place in that, but I'm equally sure Coaching (or lack thereof) had its rightful place in the blame as well.

Time to start fresh...I feel good about it.

LOL.

I agree with the sentiment that we lack talent on the back end of our defense, but there were issues out there that were beyond being a talent issue. Players constantly not in the right position or knowing who they cover. That is on coaching. From what some of the twitter peeps said, Raheem relied on Dhall way too much to do a lot of the "coaching" and putting the secondary in the positions they need to be.
Brady is the number one reason the Patriots have had sustained success. Not BB. End of discussion. Matt Cassel was fortunate to play for an 18-1 team that was coming off one of the best seasons ever. That was still a very strong team. See what happened to Cassel once he left NE?
No offense, but the majority of Patriot fans would call you an idiot for such a statement.
