Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?
I am not sure what there currently is to "get" about Cousins. Are some people way too harsh on him? Of course, but at the same time some of his supporters seem overly convinced he is destined for greatness based on what, I have no idea.
So far he has been middle of the road or perhaps a little less when grading against his peers. I don't think people pointing this out don't "get it" I don't think seeing him go in either direction from here would be a huge surprise either. |
The short answer that sums up the entire situation is we can't plan on hitting the gas station scratcher and getting a HOF QB to win.
It really doesn't matter then who Kirk is. Like the Pats and Seattle, whether you have a star or not, smart teams are always trying to find talented QBs. The idea that once you have "the guy" the QB search stops is a myth. From a draft, FA standpoint, we should always be looking for an upgrade at every position. In that context, it doesn't matter what Kirk is, we still need to be looking for an upgrade. It's just the nature of the league. I do think Kirk is going to be a serviceable NFL QB. At the beginning of the year everyone thought we were set at RB, including myself. We need to always be looking to upgrade.
If Turdk Cousins was a scratch off ticket, what would he be? I'd say a $2 dollar win |
Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?
I guess what I mean by folks don't get it is simply this..If you put any Current QB in the NFL on this team we might be only 1 or 2 wins better ..The QB is only a piece of the puzzle..Cousins did not lose the game sunday. The Redskins do not have playoff personnel from top to bottom they have holes to fill. Fact is At this moment The QB position of the Skins looks a lot better than the Rb position..which has been more productive??? what position right now is playing the best?? don't tell me WR,no to RB,TE ?,OL..maybe pass block but no to run blocking..the Def is not good..YET EVERYBODY is watching Cousins !! If I were Cousins I would actually want out of this dumpster fire called the Redskins..Players laughing on sideline during a blowout..Barry telling players after loss ..forget about it!..what the heck! Cousins may be the only thing that makes me even watch this sorry team ..because that is what they are …anybody beg to differ??

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?
Play him the rest of the year to get a bigger sample size of he can do. I don't think he will be a superstar but I wouldn't play RG3 because he is to fragile.... The QB of the future is not on the roster.....

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?
I don't think anyone is pointing to his performance Sunday in particular. I think it is his overall body of work so far. He isn't bad, he isn't great, he is average....somewhere in the middle. He is about exactly at the spot where it is hard to make grand declarations about what he will be in the future either way.
My biggest reservation about Cousins before and going forward is his lack of play-making ability. He isn't very dynamic. (and I don't mean not athletic and/or not a runner). You send a WR out 4-7 yards and if they are open, he will hit them with the pass. It might not be in stride, it might be high/low but it will get there. He can do that really well. But it seems like when those options aren't there continually, his game suffers. Now, this wasn't the case before. I'd take the 2013 Cousins vs the Eagles over what I see right now, because it seems like he has decided mistake free at all costs is the priority over taking chances and pressing the ball downfield, HOWEVER, he is still throwing interceptions. A couple of them this season haven't been his fault, others have been downright awful decisions. For a QB that isn't throwing for 300 yards and 2-3 TD's a game, every interception or errant throw becomes magnified because their overall game is a lot more narrow. You don't see certain other QB's like Aaron Rodgers get bashed for how much they take sacks because it's what their capabilities are otherwise that are the factor. When you have a QB who is middle of the pack, of course mistakes and turnovers will be over-examined because they don't have the "game" to go out and make up for it. |

I just think if KC solidifies himself as the starter moving forward, then that draft pick needs to be in the later rounds. Those first four or five picks need to be players that can contribute immediately. |

What round do you start looking for a QB? |

It's also my retirement plan. Not working well so far. Would like to see the team try a different strategy because I will be working forever. |

I don't intend any offense, but I disagree with the premise of the question. With superior talent evaluators, which most here agree we have now, we should always take the best player available. So the answer would be whatever round a QB is the best player available. |
Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?
IF.....after 27 pages we.....still do not know who Kirk Cousins is?
Is there an easier question? |
Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?
Kirk has also had enough of this .....
How easy do you think it is as a second year qb with one start under ur belt to come off the bench and look good on a shit team like the 2013 Redskins?
He has made some real strides this year and was missing his number one wr, and his go to guy Reed for a while. He has zero run game behind him.
What strides has he made? I guess you can say for a developmental prospect inconsistency is expected. Yes, he's gaining valuable experience this season. But Cousins is a one step forward, two steps back kind of player. |

You used that exaggeration in an attempt to strengthen your own argument. Kirk's supporters here, myself included, have been saying that we think he can become a good NFL starter but not an elite QB. That's no knock on Kirk because there are only a few elite QB's. The idea is that we'll be able to win with a good but not great QB once Scot McCloughan builds a solid team around him. |

Personally I think we can win with him but the team around him has to be better. I'd go the route of building up the team and maybe look at the 5th or 6th round. |

I assume you typed his first name on purpose. Whatever you think of his performance, Kirk Cousins has been a model citizen for the Redskins, and doesn't deserve your sophomoric attempt at humor. It's offensive and doesn't become you. |
