Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
The Redskins won in '87 and '91 with an excellent set of pass catchers that helped to lead the team. Yes we had a running game, and last time I checked we still have a good one. But we also had Clark, Sanders, and Monk. Those three did all kinds of things on offense to help alot of areas.
Not to mention we had one hell of a defense those years. Say this move gets done. Well bang we have three good WR, a good RB, a LT, and some interchangeable pieces on the interior. Draft a RT. O is basically set unless Gruden wants to add speed at RB (which I think we have enough of in Helu) You could realistically spend 4-5 other picks on the defensive side of the ball and pick up some quality depth, special team players, and hopefully 1-2 starters.
What was our salary cap situation in 87 and 91? |

This is a very fair point. But there are still examples of WR-laden teams in salary cap era who won it all. |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Latest rumors have Cleveland and San Fran actively in the bidding now. Seems like it's going to shake out, at least from our end, later today. If he leaves the building, he won't be coming back. If it's all about the money, look for him to end up in Cleveland. From a fit, scheme, desire standpoint plus the money is close, look for him to be here.
It all could be agent talk since it's pretty clear the fanbase is on edge with anticipation but Bruce has shown that means very little to him (Byrd, Talib, Sproles, etc) so hold on to your seats kiddos, this could be a rough landing. |
Hey guys this has been great and all and I didn't want to say anything since we were having a great time but I've decided to sign with the [insert winning bidding team]. But hey thanks for the VIP treatment this has been great. I'll give you guys a call next time I'm in town. Oh and thanks for getting the bill that 1978 Montrachet looked really pricey.
Seriously. If Dirtbag predicted this, I'm gonna hate DJ forever. How you gonna party with our boys then sign with another team? Dafuq? |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
either way i will be happy.
if he signs, we added an explosive playmaker if he doesnt, we save some cap money to use elsewhere on a roster with some serious needs still not addressed and he is out of the NFCE. all good things.
Not sure why everyone's so enamored with us possibly signing this guy. Jackson's a great player, and would upgrade our offense tremendously, but having a great WR corps is a luxury, not a necessity. If we were the Patriots, 49ers, or Panthers, and were one step away from the Super Bowl, then I'd love to sign him. But we're not those teams; we're a team with serious needs on the offensive line and secondary. I suppose if we sign Jackson, Garcon will either be cut or take a pay cut next offseason, so we'd only have a lot of cap tied up at WR for one year, but still... I wish we had gone more heavily after offensive linemen; having a great pass-blocking unit up front would help RG3 more than any great receiver. Bruce Allen seems to think we're closer to the Super Bowl than I do, and if so, he must see something in our current O-line that allows us to go after a luxury receiver like Jackson. I sincerely hope he's right. |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
The goal going into any year ultimately is to win a super bowl.
Does DJax bring us closer? Id say he does. Alongside our other free agency additions were back in the hunt. I felt we already were without Jackson i almost feel its unfair if we do because its really all we needed. Griffin should have no problem finding the open looks and has his wheels back. Could be fun if they all play to potential. |

Per sources: San Francisco reached out to DeSean Jackson while he was at dinner with Redskins. They want him to visit. #Redskins #49ers |

Desean Jackson watch is pretty wild.. Right up there with OJ in the Bronco & Favre's trip to Minnesota.. I feel OJ in the Bronco-ish. Definitely clinging to the edge of my seat all day. I feel like I shouldn't be this engaged in the football off-season moves... |

My dad always says "no" is the quick answer so if it is taking time probably means good things. |

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
I'm becoming more and more convinced that the eagles releasing DJax was 80% $$$-related, and 20% chip kelly trying to send a message (while also realizing that there are a lot of talented receivers in this year's draft). The "gang ties" are loose at best, and just seem like a smoke screen for the eagles' questionable decision to let him go.
It really comes down to - does he make our offense significantly better? Yes, I think he does. Will we have to mitigate attitude problems? Possibly, but I have confidence in our locker room. It will be about the $$ for DJax - if we can get him at a reasonable rate, I think we absolutely need to sign him - never give up a chance to take a division rival's pro bowl player in his prime. But if the $$$ is too much, and there's a real risk we could hurt our future cap situation, like I said above - lots of talented receivers in this year's draft. |
