Re: The Never Ending Thread

Well the eyeball swelling is a result of the fact that he can't make tears. So now he has to have eyedrops. We found out about the allergy because he's had a bad ear infection for a while that wouldn't clear up and he licks his paws all the time.

The thing that pisses me off is that it was the emergency vet we took him too that diagnosed these problems, not our real vet. I don't understand why our real vet didn't figure all this out before. The ER vet said we should have been giving him eyedrops for the past year. Grrr...

That concerns me, cause my dog is a lot of allergies. She's always biting at her paws, and "carpet humps" (as we call it) cause her belly is always itchy. We've tried benedryl and it didn't work, we've tried wipes, and that didn't work. We've tried liquids, and that didn't work. I don't know what to do about it. I feel bad for her.

Does your dog drink a lot of water? That can be a sign of a protein allergy too.

No, not really. She drinks as much as the other basset. We have tried changing foods several times too.

My thought is that she's allergic to the grass. Oddly enough, I am allergic to the grass out here too, and I'm not allergic to anything.

poor thing is scratching as we speak.

We've been feeding our dog pedigree forever. The vet asked us to change his food to a brand made with venison, duck or kangaroo. I was like "kangaroo?". We found a venison brand, so hopefully that will do the trick.

My dog is 12+.

You might want to consider asking your vet about protein allergies the next time you take your dog in. It couldn't hurt.

Learn the area, and probably just chill around and get used to my surroundings.
