we probably keep 6 WRs and an extra guy on the practice squad. DQ and a couple undrafted FAs may displace jacobs and thrash completely.

Here is how I see the depth chart at wide receiver. I think James Thrash or Antonio Brown will be released. One may make the team as a special teams player. Randle El will assume all the return duties.
1. Santana Moss - should be the primary receiver.
2. Brandon Lloyd - better release than Randle El. Can handle man-to-man press.
3. Antwaan Randle El - better in the slot. Closer to ball which is desirable for reverses and option passes.
4. David Patten - should be highly motivated to compete with Lloyd and Randle El.
5. Taylor Jacobs - fifth man out. Barring any injuries, I doubt if he sees much playing time. Better contribute on special teams.

I can't wait for next season. It will be very interesting to see the formations that Al Saunders will use. He has a lot of options and he may use all of them as he did in Kansas City. Let's speculate on the formations.

Jumbo - HB Clinton Portis, FB Mike Sellars, HB Chris Cooley, TE Christian Fauria, WR Santana Moss
Pro - HB Clinton Portis, FB Mike Sellars, TE Chris Cooley, FL Santana Moss, SE Brandon Lloyd
Pro Slot - RB Clinton Portis, TE Chris Cooley, X Santana Moss, Y Brandon Lloyd, Z Antwaan Randle El
Quads - RB Clinton Portis, WR1 Santana Moss, WR2 Brandon Lloyd, WR3 Antwaan Randle El, WR4 David Patten
Empty Backfield - WR1 Santana Moss, WR2 Brandon Lloyd, WR3 Antwaan Randle El, WR4 David Patten, WR5 Taylor Jacobs

Drouzon Quillen. 6'6" 4.5 WR, probably goes undrafted... he left school early cause he needs to support his family. Since depth is pretty good, having a super tall guy as a project wouldn't hurt.

I rather have cooley or portis in the WR5 slot.

Good analysis.

It seems that the one thing everyone does agree upon is that Antonio Brown is heading for the door. But, if so, why did the Skins allocate him to NFLE? Why not just cut him and look for a roster spot at a position of more need?

Also, what about speedster Jimmy Farris? Does he have a future with the team or not? He played well when put in the lineup during pre-season (yes, I remember a few drops, but that didn't keep Gardner from a 5 year career here). And I agree that there will likely be a draft choice/FA who will fall in their lap during the offseason.

A long way of saying that I don't think the #5 and/or #6 spots are clear yet. I like James Thrash and he goes hard every down, but does he fit the new system? Don't know.

I agree with you about Antonio Brown. Clearly, the Skins want him to work on ball control. To me, that could speak volumes about James Thrash's future with this team. Especially when everyone seems to agree that he's a special teamer at best.

But Jimmy Farris? They'll invite him back to training camp, I'm sure, but now that the team has addressed wide receivers by solidifying the #2 and #3 spots, there just won't be any room. And believe me -- if you were to rank the talent of the wideouts we have, Jimmy Farris is by far at the tail end of that list.

As far as #5 and #6 slots go, the roster restrictions set by the NFL make it impossible for any team to have that many recievers without severly limiting yourself at other positions. At most, you'll only see 4 wide receivers that are active on gameday. Remember, you can only have a 53-man roster at the start of the season, and that must be trimmed to 45 for each game.

He was allocated to the Amsterdam Admirals:

I know he is not showing up on the NFLE roster page. I'm not sure why.

first, we allocated brown before we knew we could get either of the FA WRs. second, he needs the paycheck, and sending him off doesn't hurt gibbs in any way... maybe brown learns how to make the move from track guy to football player, maybe not. For gibbs its a low risk proposition.

as for jimmy farris, he got a lot of playing time after patten went down. he completed the year with 1 catch for 18 yards. I know he looked good against scrubs in a meaningless preseason game, but when it came time to produce, he did NOTHING.

plenty of teams keep 5WRs active (especially if they help with teams) on game day. lots of teams do use 5 wide from time to time.
