oop sorry Rob, wasn't lumping you in with the bean-counters if you saw it that way.
i would directly disagree with you that the 'get out of iraq' feeling is RECENT. a full half of the country didn't want to go in in the first place, regardless of how our 'representatives' voted (thats why they're called flip floppers right?). the whole doubt about WMDs, concern about lack of exit strategy, troop level controversy and benefits to the general war on terror is all at least as old as the war itself.
It's all good... But it looks like we agree to disagree. While there was a great deal of people not wanting to go to war in the first place (me included) I think the trend to cut and run is fairly recent. There is a large amount of conservative folks who are even expressing faith in this strategy. That's kinda how I saw it, as a general solution, the idea to cut and run in the population as a whole is fairly recent. I'm not saying there weren't those who thought it all along, but in terms of the entire population mood swing, I think the ideals behind policy in Iraq have shifted dramatically in the past 6 months. |

Man, some of my posts need to be peer edited...
There always so choppy and convoluted. |
Re: Rumsfeld stepping down
I'm not sure that people in general are in favor of a straight up cut and run, but some sort of exit strategy would be a good start.

Christmas came early this year: Dems take House, Senate, and Rummy resigns. Between this and the Skins win, I'm jaaackked up!

exit strategy and contingency planning are two of the MOST important parts of conducting a war. we went in without either and rummy couldn't believe that the US would be greeted as anything other than liberators (oops). arabic ground intel was nearly non existant, and training and directives as to how and why winning popular native support is important weren't implemented. plan as you go doesn't work so well, since about 2 million new opinions pop up every day :/. he should have stepped down 6 years ago, but now is better than later. |

Re: Rumsfeld stepping down
I had a friend in college named Black Tony who used to say, honestly man, there aint really nothing I wont hit. And the thing was, those werent empty words. He walked the walk. He ran through every insecure, half-baked, overweight, cross-eyed girl in the dorm. Anyway, he was a good guy and a huge influence on my thinking. I kind of got the feeling that old Billy Clinton was the same way.
Can anyone name a Politician who looks after the 'common, ordinary folk'.
Sadly the whole political scene seems to poison the people involved. Am I just that cynical?
Marion Barry looks after fellow crackheads. |
