Re: Seven games left
He's thrown picks before. in fact didn't he throw a pick in pre-season and then responded very well on his next series?
|
Re: Seven games left
exactly, I'm not worried about pics hurting his confidence, he knows they are gonna come. So I think we should worry less about "protecting" him and more about showing what he's capable of. He's got a good offensive foundation around him, he's got the tools, let's see em in action. God I hope the first play is a pass play.
The only reason I'm worried about Campbell getting yanked is because when Gibbs was doing his radio show on Monday, and someone asked about Brunell's future he said that "Mark will sit back in the backup spot, rest up and get healthy, and we'll see where it goes from there". Maybe he was just trying to lessen the blow for Brunell, but that doesn't sound like he's done for good to me.
I said it in another thread, I think Joe is just too nice of a guy to shut the door on Brunell. I don't think the comment really applies to the rest of this season, I think he's talking next year. And even then, if Campbell looks promising the rest of the way he'll leave Gibbs with no choice. |
Re: Seven games left
I personally wouldn't be worried about Campbell having a short leash this season. But I'd be worried about what Gibbs will do going into next season. Will he trust Campbell and let him go with it, or will he bring in another vet?
Only time will tell. One would think Gibbs will give Campbell a good chance given that Gibbs hand-picked him; then again Gibbs loves the cagey old vets.
cap wise, how do you see Brunell fitting in next year? |
Re: Seven games left
I hope to God Brunell doesnt' fit in next year. I think collins is a viable enough backup considering he knows the system and would be a lot of help to campbell in the offseason

Re: Seven games left
I think that Campbell is probably a bust. I hope not, but that's what my gut tells me.
They will have to blow the team up. I hope in doing so, they begin to find a way out of the constant cap b.s and restructuring and robbing Peter to pay Paul, etc. If we have to suck for a few years thern so be it. We suck anyways. |
If he can't handle pics, then he won't be the guy in the end. We need someone who is mentally strong, especially in this city. We need someone who takes risks in order to make the big play, and to not doubt themselves.
I was talking to my good friend the other night after watching the SEC chapionship game highlights. What struck us both was the fact that after Campbell made a couple poor decisions, he didn't sulk and flop around... but rather changed his intensity, made some plays, and won the game. Granted, just one game. But it made an impact. |

He hasn't played a game yet and that's what your gut is telling you? Possibly further evidence for why people should use their brains rather than their entrails. |
Re: Seven games left
I don't think he'll be a bust, but our past track record leaves us to expect anything but.

Don't go by our past track record, go by Gibbs past track record. That should settle the stomach. Oh, and Cary Conklin doesn't count. |
Re: Seven games left
I'm with everyone in hoping that he totally turns the ship around. Again though, I'm going to say what I've said before, I HATE this parity thing. I'd love for ONCE, just ONCE for the NFC East to be weak and the Skins to dominate it for years. Now there are all young, talented QBs and it's going to be tough every damn year.

Re: Seven games left
Hey, there's a thought....
Just like the Niners had when they went on their SB romps. They won their Div most seasons from '81 - '98. Makes the post-season a little easier when you play a crappy Div. |
Re: Seven games left
Yes. :(
Everyone is all pumped how the NFC East is competitive again. Screw that. I'll take going 6-0 against the division every day of the week! |

I don't think he would flat out say, 'Oh yeah, he's done..' Nice generic he's still a part of the team quote. |

the thing about campbell - alex smith threw 1 td and 11 ints, and had a million fumbles last year... and this year he's actually playing alright, so 7 games might not be enough to judge campbell fully. hopefully he shows flashes though.
I'd had that thought in my head since he was first named starter...that I hope the team or fans don't get impatient and give up on him right away. He has the body, the brains, the skills (from what we've seen) and the desire to be a sucessful NFL QB. All he needs is the experience and we can't ignore that. Even Peyton Manning threw 8 INTs in his first 7 games, so we can't expect the world from him at first. Favre threw 37 TDs and 37 INTs in his first 2 years. Elway's rookie season had 7 TDs and 14 INTs and 47 TD/42 INT in his first 3 years! We need to give him at LEAST 2 full seasons in my opinion. If by then, he still looks like a rookie, we'll need to get a "new" QB of the future. We've invested a LOT in Campbell...timewise and otherwise, so we can't give up if we don't like what we see immediately. |
