Re: Walt Harris

Please..though it does look this year like Harris is a stellar nickel corner compared to Rumph and Kenny Wright, he stunk when he played here. He would get owned if he had to cover any #1 or #2 receiver as Rogers has had to this year. Dude sucks!
Hindsight sure is 20/20. At the end of last season if we took a poll I'm sure that an overwhelming number of people would have been in favor of letting Harris go. Now people are crying that it was a bad move. Hilarious.
Matty, when our pass defense goes from where it was last year to where it is now, don't you think it's a safe assumption that there indeed were some bad moves that were made by this front office?

All one has to do is look at the record of this team over the past few years to see that the system in which this organization handles personnel decisions is seriously flawed.

I'm not denying we have made some bad moves, that's not what my post was about.

I was simply stating that it's funny that a player most of the fans wanted to ride out of town last year is now being called a mistake in hindsight.

Re: Walt Harris

I always thought the criticism of WH was unjustified. Sure, he wasn't starting material, but as a nickel he played really well here. Plus, you have to accept that every cb gets burned at least a few times a year.
I don't think it was a personnel decision to let him go as much as a cap decision. We had to trim a lot of fat because the cba was ending & no one knew if a new deal would be signed. Thankfully (or not, maybe we'd be better off if we didn't have that cap $ to bring in AA, AC,etc.) there was a new cba, but that came only after we had to cut some guys.
The cap & the end of the old cba also had to do w/us not re-signing Smoot & Pierce. Gibbs & co. knew that cap hell was on the horizon in 06. Basically, all of our overspending caught up w/us & still is impacting the team, as we had to let good players go.

Smoot will always be looked at as a tough loss, everyone liked him, we really should have given him the money.

I agree. That whole "He's not our #1 corner so he wont make more money than Springs." Might have been the dumbest thing I've heard from Gibbs. Lots of players weren't our #1 something, but they certainly made money like it.

As far as Walt Harris, I liked him as a 3rd corner, but I certainly wasnt crying to see him go.

Re: Walt Harris

i think they made smoot a reasonable offer. all you have to do is see how smoot made out against steve smith last year to know he isnt a legit number one. and walt harris was what he was. an ok nickel back that some people around here used as a whipping boy. sure looks a helluva lot better than rumph or wright, doesnt he?

I hope Rumph never sees the field again, he plays like he's mentally retarted, no joke.

I'd bet he could spell retarded though.
When will Skins fans WAKE UP!!! Gibbs gets the final call on all personnel/coaching moves since he returned 3 years ago. I'm sick of everyone blaming The Danny and Vinnie. If Gibbs says he wants someone, then by God, The Danny will spend to get him, be it a coach or a player. Gibbs chose to go after Brunell as his initial move. Some of his acquisitions have been solid (Washington, Portis, Moss, Griffin). It bothers me most that Gibbs doesn't structure cap expenditures in a way that allows us to hold onto solid players like Smoot and Pierce. He prefers the paying big money for the castoffs from a terrible 49ers team. Go figure.
I have said this before, and I'll say it again; I have a great deal of admiration and respect for Joe Gibbs, however he has been away from the game a long time, and to come back into the league after such a lengthly absence and begin making personell decisions for the team is a bit hasty, as well as prematute. It's a difficult assignment for those who are constantly associated with the game year in and year out, it's surely compounded when you're away from the game for twelve years. He just dosen't know the league personel well enough to effectively make all the decisions in reference to such. He surely has to have other input from someone else in the oprganization because it would be impossible for him to make these decisions all on his own.

Re: Walt Harris

it is too bad that we lost harris. i always wondered why ppl around here gave him so much crap... usually you'd expect the no. 2 CB to give up a few more plays and a few more missed tackles simply bc he's not getting the ball near him as much.

i liked harris alright and i still cry myself to sleep over losing clark. never wanted that either.

Re: Walt Harris

outlaw, i think if the front office could have a do over with clark, he would still be here. but you only get them in golf, so now we have A.A.
