Wouldn't it be something if Duckett re-signed with the Redskins?
We could run the wishbone with Duckett as the up back and Portis and Betts as tailbacks. Let Randle El be the QB. |

Put Duckett in as MLB |

Go to the Portis 980 thread if you want to know what going on with the Skins.

Re: Whats going on with our skins?
It's the same broken record. Here in D.C., the feeling is a GM won't make that much of a difference. However within most NFL circles people have said for years that's one of our biggest downfalls, and we refuse to listen. If one keeps hearing the same thing over and over again from different sources, at what point must it be true?
Another thing, why do I get the feeling this is like a boat with a leak, and Gibbs is running from place to place trying to plug it with his finger, then his toe, then the other finger..... |
Re: Whats going on with our skins?
I think the Skins should all look at what a team like the Jets did in last year's draft as a good example of how pivotal draft day can be. We throw away draft picks with the same recklessness as Snyder pisses away money on overhyped, underachieving free agents. See the Duckett trade as a perfect example. A 3rd round pick for a guy who got all of what, 20 carries this year? And he won't even be on the roster in a few weeks...
Yes, the Jets do build through the draft, but more than that they have a first year coach that wouldn't let those guys quit and got them to the playoffs. I don't think their roster is any more talented than the Skins. I'll say the same for Kansas City. Herm went in there and said look, this is the way it's going to be...."you play to win the game". Larry Johnson stood in front of the press about 4 weeks ago and said, "this is bullshit, we 'aint trying." No one in KC thought he was dividing the locker room, they saw a perennial All-Pro get angry and rallied behind his words. Ditto Sean Payton and the Saints. I think there is the difference with our team this year and those guys. They'll run through a wall for their coach. Our guys will run through a wall only if our backs are against it. |

And think about why players might feel that way? Money does not motivate anybody for very long. In the end, people will fight for leaders they believe in, and for leaders they believe believe in THEM. Of course it's a business, and everybody knows that, but in the real world people don't respond well to the kinds of shenanigans that the Skins pull with personnel on an annual basis, so I don't know why people think pro athletes would react any differently. |

This team isn't responding to this brand of leadership, I don't care what people say. At first we thought it was about Joe's three rings and so forth, but this generation of players can't connect with that and his past. Then we insert 700 pages of Saunders genius, and he is, and it hasn't yielded much yet. It could next year, but not yet. |

It seems as if saunder's isnt flexible enough to realize this is not the chiefs but a real tribe... I mean he doesn't seem to be able to adapt and play to the redskin's strengths..... I would like to see him gone...Keep Gibbs cut saunders |
Re: Whats going on with our skins?
Like it or not here is my take on the Skins .You're not a bad team the Betts fumble was more of a good hit than Betts fualt..helmet on the ball is a very hard thing to stop.1 or 2 free agents and you're in business Gibbs is a good coach and giving cambell a whole year will mean alot. You had some injuries ...all teams do but that's just the luck of the game ,wholesale changes aren't needed IMHO.:food-smil

Re: Whats going on with our skins?
As far as Snyder goes, didn't he do exactly what we were all screaming for him to do: Take his hands off, and leave it to the people who know football ?
He's listening to Gibbs, and doing everything Gibbs says.
Exactly! I suspect that deep down a lot of this animosity toward Snyder is redirected because people are still hesitant to unload on Gibbs. Snyder may be guilty of overpaying, but he's only going out and getting the players Gibbs & Co. are telling him to get. Otherwise, for the last three years here's done nothing but set back and let Gibbs, as head coach, president, and de fecto GM, run the team. Gibbs II = 21-27, one wild card playoff appearance and two losing seasons. |

Tom Coughlin needs to get laid. He's a cranky old bastard. |

Re: Whats going on with our skins?
At what point do we realize that we need an entirely different approach? Every year we go out and win the superbowl in the offseason. No GM and ridiculous overspending has gotten us nada for years. No other teams operate without a GM, and no one has the reputation we do for throwing waaaaay to much money at mediocre free agents. Sure a few have worked out since Gibbs came back, but the massive busts are pretty darn glaring too. To me the definition of insanity is repeating the same unsuccessful behavior and expecting different results.
Gibbs won three superbowls with many no name players and a great GM. And that was in an era WITHOUT a salary cap!! Now he comes back and pretends he knows what he is doing in the personnel department? In his press conferences Gibbs always tells the media/fans to "put it on me," and that "it's my responsibility." Well I'm gonna do just that. GET IT TOGETHER JOE! THIS IS YOUR DOING! FIX IT! We've made the playoffs twice in the last 15 friggin years!! |
Re: Whats going on with our skins?
Oh yeah, and another thing about the absurd spending- it is SOOO not the route that works in today's NFL. When a player on the Steelers or Patriots tries to hardball the team for a large contract they are almost always told to take a hike. And they have won 4 outta the last 5 superbowls combined. Oh yeah, they have GM's too. They always say today's NFL is a copycat league. WAKE UP REDSKINS!
