I just remember the Redskins' offense being very predictable and vanilla during the Norval years. I know he's known as a great offensive mind, but hell I would be considered a genious too if I had Aikman, Smith and Irvin.
Hey, did you know your namesake might be the next defensive coordinator of the Niners? I'm talking about former Redskins LB Greg Manusky for those that don't know.
Thanks.

Tell you the truth, I can't stand the Cowboys boards right now. No one is talking about the senior bowl/draft/Super Bowl.

it is all coaching all the time.

And I think that Coaching is the one area of Professional Football that the Fans know the least about. So much of what they do goes on behind the scenes.

And I don't care who you hire as the Defensive Coordinator it just doesn't put any sizzle into the off season for me.

Unless that guy is also going to play shutdown Free Safety....

I'm happy to be here where fans are talking about the Players for the most part.
Any way we can turn you against the evil empire that is the Dallas Cowboys? We'd love you to have you cheering for the burgandy and gold! Plus we've won more playoff games than the Cowboys have in the last ten years!
I remember thinking he sucked...but I was young. I also remember we always had a good offense and 0 defense. I hated Mike Nolan more than I hated Norv.
That second sentence you wrote sounds awfully familiar. Seems like there was a team this year that was very similiar.

Funny, Someone wrote that last year, 'come over from the evil empire'.

My reply was that you guys would not respect me if I switched teams.

The reply???

We don't respect you now!!!

It was funny at the time.

The thing that really killed me about norv was that if it was 3rd and 10 he would call a 7 yard pass play.If it was 3rd and 7 he would call a 5 yard pass.I felt like he had no balls and that just drove me nuts.
Largely considered to be the leading candidate for the Dallas HC position, I wondered what the feeling was regarding Norville and his time in Washington. He was 7-6 the year he got fired (and had lost his last three games by 6 points)

Every Cowboys fan is watching Tape from the Aikman-Smith-irvin glory days and booking SB trips next year.

I seem to remember Washington not being too sad to see Norv leave.
Why would Cowboy fans be so happy about Norv? He's not HC material. I think everyone around the NFL knows that. A HC needs to be a leader and Norv is no leader. Nice play caller and OC but that's it. The problem is Jerry wants to bring in someone he can push around. Why else is he bringing in guys like Norv and Jason Garrett? Do you honestly think Norv or Garrett could handle TO? Norv couldn't even handle Michael Westbrook. And Garrett, WTF has he done??????????????? If Jerry was serious about winning he would hire Mike Singletary cause that guy commands respect right when he walks in the door. Plus he can coach his ass off. I once saw a piece on NFL films where he got right in Ray Lewis' face after a bad play. This was when he was coaching in Balt. And Ray Lewis sat there and listened to him and said "yes sir." Not too many guys in the NFL command that type of respect. Brian Billick can't even do that to Ray Lewis. But it won't happen because there is no way Jerry's gonna push around Singletary.

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?

I feel confident that any stench from his tour with the Raiders should be completely overlooked. If they do hire Norv as head coach (and it looks that way), I think that it will be to mentor Jason Garrett as offensive coordinator. I think Jerry Jones is taking his defense for granted, and wants to fix himself offensively.

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?

Failure. I'll give him 2000, becuase I'm putting that year on Danny. He had a good team in 1999, had Danny not bought the team could he have taken it somewhere? Who knows.

IMO, that 99' team was good enough to win the Super Bowl, and if it wasent for the collapse in Tampa, I think they very well might have.

Overall though, numbers dont lie, its a failure. I'm interested to see how many coaches started 7-1 and missed the playoffs.

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?

It was a complete and utter failure in every sense of the word. Anyone who thinks it wasn't has mellowed over the time since it passed. How many years did he have 6 or 7 and he still could not build a contender? Most teams give a coach 3 years now to get it done. He is a bad head coach...good asisstant but bad head coach.

Almost every first down was a run play too...its all starting to come back, like bad acid reflux

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?

Hiring a coach from Dallas to be the Redskins head coach brought a curse to this organization. When Norv goes back home to Dallas, the curse will be lifted and all will be right again!

Oh hell, Gmanc! Stop kicking us when we're down. I know I was stationed in Colorado Springs that year. What year was that '96? '97? The pain...looks like I'm hitting the bottle tonight.

The guy is a classic coordinator not head coach. Zero personality and heart, just see his record in Oakland.
