One more thing, I do not like the practice of the Redskins and Gibbs airing private player situations in the press. It is between the team and the player and does not involve anyone else. The Patriots do a much better job handling their personnel issues behind closed doors. It is a respect thing and I do not like it when a player or team uses the press to get what they want.
It lacks class and is childish.
Gibbs needs to stop vocalizing everything that runs through his mind to the press. It is not a good practice in any business.
Not sure what you're talking about... Gibbs rarely gives the press much of anything to chew on. In this case he simply said he lost contact with Taylor and Springs which was the truth. I don't think the situation was anything of a sensitive nature that shouldn't have been out there in the media.

Yeah, but who said we should trade Taylor for Briggs? And then went on to say that a reason would be because we need a DE?

Re: Taylor Reports to OTAs

Good decision by Sean Taylor to report to camp. Whether something is voluntary or not doesn't say whether it is good or not to do - it just means you have the option to choose.

Is it better that Sean Taylor come to camp with everyone else, if the goal is working together as a team, and contributing to team harmony? Of course. Co-operation means:

1.an act or instance of working or acting together for a common purpose or benefit; joint action.

Co-operation is good if the goal is team success; holding out is not.

As for the idea that Coach Gibbs erred in talking about the week long Sean Taylor holdout, I wonder what he might have done otherwise.

(FAKE) Interview:

Reporter: Coach, I notice that Sean Taylor is not here. Can you comment on why?

Coach Gibbs: Is Sean not here?

Reporter: Yes, apparently he is still in Florida.

Coach Gibbs: It must be nice down there. Hope he's enjoying the weather.

Reporter: Coach, have you talked to Sean?

Coach Gibbs: Do you mean by that, communicate with him verbally?

Reporter: Yes.

Coach Gibbs: Well, I don't think I can say anything about that. That's Redskins' business.

Reporter: So, it's not the business of the Redskins community, meaning the fans?

Coach Gibbs: Certainly not. The fans have no right to know what is going on. We take care of issues "in house." If you're a fan, you're "out-house."

Reporter: So the fans should not be allowed to know if a player is refusing to communicate with the head coach and the team?

Coach Gibbs: Nope.

Reporter: So, fans should be kept in the dark, and issues whitewashed, and the elephant in the corner of the room should be ignored, despite all the concern that fans will have anyway about Sean's absence?

Coach Gibbs: Right. In-house is in-house, the out-house is the out-house. Fan concern is not something we worry about.

Coach Gibbs cares about the fans enormously, and I think it was entirely appropriate that he let everyone know that half his starting secondary was (and one still is) refusing to communicate. We are a community and while you can't share everything that goes on (contract negotiations) you want to share what you can, so the fans are not excluded from information of interest to any person with a serious interest in the welfare of the team. Being as inclusive as possible is the best policy.

LOL nice mock interview with Gibbs.

Re: Taylor Reports to OTAs

I'm glad Sean made that decision, and it further demonstrates why we should sometimes hold off on our initial response to a situation until it plays itself completely out. His decision was the right one, and a good one.

Had we just waited for Favre to make-up and change his mind again, there would not have been a thread about his initial stated desire.

I never understood the fuss. I mean, you can't spell TAYLOR w/o O-T-A.

I never understood the fuss either, and I agree in part with Defensewins when he spoke about the OTA's being voluntary. They can't be a voluntary and mandatory exercise all in one. I do however, understand the desire to have everyone present for the sake of "TEAM" but as someone else stated, this is May, whose going to care come Sept.

I only mentioned Favre because I have witnessed him make statements about retirement before, only to change his mind later. I decided to wait before comment, thinking he just might do the same thing again, and he did.

I just went back and slogged through the 8 pages of thread and that is about right. When I actually read the posts it seemed like more people were over reacting in the other direction, that is arguing with the decided minority who said it was a major contractual issue. Seemed like most people assumed that others were making a big deal out of the contract concerns and then made a big deal in the other direction (if that makes any sense). In any case, certainly no need for anyone (save perhaps Sally Jenkins) to really renounce their sins publicly.
