My point is this: why give him $10 million to sign plus $20 million more over 7 years when you can just put Marcus Washington down there with his hand on the ground at no extra charge, and get the same effect.
You don't know how good Washington is going to be at rushing the passer at defensive end, and if he is good, then we can have two good pass rushers instead of one. It will make it a lot tougher for the offensive line.
Carter gets eaten alive on running downs.

Which is exactly my point. I'm not suggesting they move Washington to defensive end, but Carter is such a liability on rushing downs that I KNOW that Evans or Wynn could do better. And then come an obvious passing situation, we could bump Marcus Washington down.
Carter got a lot better at stopping the run at the end of the year too. In the last 5 games, he got more tackles than he did in the first 11. He had 33 in those games and only 23 in the first 11. He also got 4 sacks in those 5 games.

He is the best pass rusher we have.

Huh???? Did you happen to watch the Giants game when Tiki ran for 235 yards. All they did was run to Carter's side the whole game. I mean he was gettting mauled by Bob Whitfied who retired cause he was 50 years old. Sorry but Carter is terrible against the run.

It wasn't Carter so much as it was Holdman.
when Dallas played Washington, I saw the middle of your line as the culprit on running downs, not the end, but I didn't see that many Washington games last year - 3-4 I think.
I actually agree. I know we often hear about teams running left at Carter and Holdman, but I distinctly remember games like WAS v. TEN where we were just getting gashed over and over up our gut. I pray our coaches' faith in Montgomery and Golston is well founded.

CGriff was so ineffective last year. Too banged up I tend to think Golston can be a decent DT but he is never going to be dominant and there will be days when he is up against solid Gs and Cs and he'll get pushed around. Hopefully Montgomery is as good as they think he is. He sounds like someone who can be an anchor in there when Griff finally gives out. I'd love him to pan out this year and Griff stay healthy. Sounds like they'd be a real solid middle line.

The beauty of this is we'll find out soon enough if the line was the problem or the LBs and secondary.

Actually Andre Carter is the best pass rusher we had. He showed it when he didn't have to think as much on technique.

I still say Marcus Washington is our best pas rusher.

I agree, there aren't a ton of D Ends who play the run well. Carter should be disruptive, but there should be linebackers making plays against the run. To hold him entirely responsible for having a poor run defense on his side is asinine.

I think we are in trouble if we are counting on these two guys. I was just not impressed with Goldston. I know he was a rookie but from what I saw, he could not hold down the point of attack. He didn't seem like he was strong enough. I have heard comments from Wynn and the coaching staff that Montgomery is a real talented guy he is just a classic underacheiver. But from everything I have heard is Montgomery has had a real good off season.

I hope we can get two more productive years out of Griff and one more out of Joe S.
This is not a good idea, he is not a D end. It would be smarter to move him around or bring him off the edge with the idea of getting him matched up with RB or TE, not OT. I'm confident this is how G Williams will use Marcus!
that would be my thinking too..
32nd best DL in the league.
They battled injuries all year. Carter has the ability to make plays and he displayed that several times in the second half.

Sometimes it takes guys a while to pick up complicated schemes. Both our offense and defense are pretty complicated and there were several new parts last year.

Everyone who has played for Saunders said that it really takes two years to learn. That bodes well for this year.

The defense had huge injuries on every level and many people playing out of position. They will improve significantly this year.

Add an average to above average offense with a good to very good defense and anything could happen in the NFC.

Dallas and New York have taken significant steps back. If they can split with Philly, they have a chance to win the division.
