Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
When did either of them begin to play poorly? The Cowboys have only been beaten by the Pats, and the Giants have reeled off six straight? As I said before, having both the Giants and Cowboys finish the season poorly would be the dream situation, but it's also completely unrealistic. Especially considering Washington is the least consistent of the three teams.
While I do think Washington has a good shot to make the playoffs, their chances of actually winning the division are very small.
I think he was saying 'historically' the Giants especially have swooned in recent years (well really last year). What bearing that has on this season is highly questionable (i.e. it has no bearing whatsoever). The Skins have been the least consistent of the three teams and I agree that dreams of a division crown are a bit pie-in-the-sky at this point. I haven't seen the Giants play since they beat the Skins, but they seem to be hitting on all cylinders at this point (well except for Eli). Speaking of Eli, not sure if anyone else has come across this site, but it is pretty hilarious IMO. Through eight games the Dallas and NY are probably the best two teams in the NFC (I'm still not 100% sold on GB, we should have beaten them at their place despite have a very poor offensive showing). Hopefully something changes in the second half and either (or both) run into a tough stretch of games. The Official Eli Manning Sucks Blog |
Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
Dating back to the 03 Football season the Cowboys and Giants have finished the last 5 games of the season with a losing record. The only excecption being the 05 Season when the Giants went 5-0
2006 Dallas 2-3 NY 2-3 2005 Dallas 2-3 NY 5-0 (The only excecption) 2004 Dallas 2-3 NY 1-4 2003 Dallas 2-3 NY 0-5 While many may not think that is significant to this season, keep in mind that those teams also historically started off well. (For the most part) It may be a stretch and of no significance whatsoever, but it is my stretch and I'm sticking to it. Feel free to bash me if it doesn't happen. Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
I never root for Dallas but I think in this case it would be better for the skins if they won. Since the skins play Dallas next week it will be much better to play them coming off a win and a little full of themselves. The most important thing the skins need to do is win games...win 10 or 11 games and everything will take care of itself. So if winning is the goal then playing Dallas after a week of patting themself on the back is better then playing them after a tough loss.

Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
From a playoff perspective, I think it would actually be better for the Cowchips to win.
Dallas is taking this division, there's no other way around it. If the Giants win, it only puts them further ahead in the wild card race, which is Washington's only hope.
Agreed. |

Last 5 overall over last 4 seasons. Dallas 8-12 NY 8-12 Washington 10-10 I like our chances. |
Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
So what did each team do the last five seasons from weeks 9 through 13?
Seriously though, that has no bearing on this season...that was then, this is now. Neither are the same team they were last year or any year before that. |
Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
It is so early we jsut ahve to win. The rest will take care of itself.

In your world, history has no bearing on the present. I said it was a stretch. I am merely looking outside the obvious for something to give me hope. Sorry for bringing it up, but isn't it the experts that say the teams with the best chance are the ones who play well in December? You are correct, those teams are not the same as the ones on the field right now. Alot has changed and they are the two best teams in the NFC. We shouldn't even finish the season or take the field agaist those guys because they have already won the division and made the playoffs. No reason to be optimistic about anything right now, because it is too much of a stretch. Come on, I am making a prediction, a very bold prediction based on previous observations. That is all. Seriously though, conventional wisdom says that -right now NY and Dallas are very solid football teams, and their previous records mean nothing. I understand, but I however, am not conventional. |

Go big blue, bring us to within a game of cowpatties!

Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
The Giants without a doubt that way if we win we are only one game out of first place.

Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
I disagree that this is a runaway for Dallas. They still have the Giants, Lions, Panthers, and Skins on the road; Redskins, Jets, Packers, and Eagles at home. Not a runaway schedule if you ask me. Maybe the only easy game in there is the Jets, but they'll get better with their new QB too.
I think the goal is to always win the division, and to say that crown belongs to the Cowboys after 8 games is just plain ridiculuous. I will root for the Giants, and for the Skins to take care of business down the road and the division can still be won. By the way, we still have to beat the Eagles this week.
Yeah, the goal is to win the division, but at a certain point let's be realistic. In order for us to win the division two things have to happen: Dallas has to pretty much fall apart for the second half of the season, and the Skins have to kick it in to high gear. Are both those things happening simultaneously impossible? No, of course not. It is, however, highly improbable, given what we know about the first half of the season, that both of those events will occur simultaneously. |

But we'll be behind two different teams, instead of being tied with one of them, which is what we'll be if the Giants lose and we beat the Eagles. |

Giants ...of course!:dallas::biggthump

Exactly - I guess this seems kind of of obvious to me. There's nothing shameful about playing for a wild card. Take an honest look around at our team, our performance in the first half of the season and the competition in the NFC, particularly the NFC East. Playing for a wild card is the most likely scenario. It's not pessimism, simply and honest view on where we stand. That being said, I'd be more than thrilled if we didn't lose a single game the rest of the season and everyone else in the NFC East had a complete meltdown. It'd make my season. I just don't think that's real likely. |
