Re: Why dont the Redskins use audibles?

With a 700-page playbook, it's too much to ask of an offensive unit to recall all of those plays in case the QB audibles to one of them. So to keep everyone on the same page of that 700-page playbook, the calls come down from the booth - or in from the sidelines - or both - or ... ;)

Or at least the skin's can just fake audibles to slightly throw the defense off and continue to run the same play.
we dont call audibles... if shit looks bad we just take a timeout :/
That's because Saunders/Gibbs often take so long to get the play in that the play clock us usually down to 5 or 6 when the team is set at the line of scrimmage - not enough time to audible out of a bad look.

even when it isnt a play clock issue... thats no excuse we just dont audible... we dont even switch what side the run goes to if it looks bad... the game for us is too, OUT of the players hands it's ridiculous...

If you go to playoffs then it's time to use Collins and let Campbell practice holding the ball to keep from fumbling and read defense to cut the interceptions and start him for 8 games next year again

Speaking of audibles, did anyone hear Joe Gibbs today on Redskins Radio?

Larry Michael questioned Jason Campbell about the one-handed catch to Santana Moss after the Dallas game, and JC said that the play was an audible. During his show today, Larry Michael mentioned this to Gibbs, and Gibbs said 'That was stupid of Jason. Jason needs to shut his trap.'

I couldn't believe I heard Gibbs say that, knowing how careful he is not to call out players to the media or in public.

I wish I had a link or something, but it was on the Bram Weinstein Show today when they speak with Gibbs.

EDIT: Ok, I Googled it, here's something from somebody's blog.

That's Bram Weinstein's blog by the way.

Anyway, right now the link is at story #5 on redskins.com. The aforementioned conversation starts at the 22:21 mark. I like the comparison to Theismann that followed

Hmmmm....That's interesting. I wonder what exactly he revealed. I would assume that most teams have audibles that send their big play wide receiver on a deep route. Maybe because they could figure out the signal? Anyone have any insight on this?

Re: Why dont the Redskins use audibles?

Gibbs was in great spirits on that show today. He's either confident or resigned, I'm not sure which. The Moss catch was very similar to the first Ricky Sanders TD in Super Bowl 22 which was a sight adjustment as well. When they get to the line and see a certain coverage, both QB and receiver have to recognize it and switch to the go route. It's more like a hot read than an audible I think.

Yeah, he basically said Theismann was completely self-centered in a way that made it seem like a compliment.

I think it's confidence. You could sense it in his press conference yesterday also. Kind of "Ok, now we've seen what this offense can do with Campbell running point and we're about to surprise some people"

Of course, they need to start winning. But the Redskins have been hovering around 5-5 so many times only to finish 11-5, 10-6. This team reminds me of the teams back in 1989 and 1990.
