Re: B. Lloyd Possibly Out For The Season
He's out, they won't hold a roster spot for him. His Redskin career is over, I don't think her ever broke a sweat and boy did he ever rob the Skins.

Re: B. Lloyd Possibly Out For The Season
Have heard the same about Jones. What's compelling about him is he's 6'6", fast, and I think Dave Butz' son is his agent.
But BB is at the top of my wish list
He's definitely an intriguing prospect. If JC had a tall target with speed, it could be a lethal combo, but I'd hate to see Snyder back up the Brinks truck, and then Matt Jones is teetering back and forth from inactivity to 5th string receiver like he is in Jax. I wonder if he'd command a lot of money in the free agent market or if we could get him at a good price. I'd like him as compliment to our receiving corp but not to be the solution to fix our problems there. What's interesting about Jones' season thus far is he'll be in street clothes one week, and then the next game, he's making a spectacular game winning TD. The way our season's gone so far, it might be worth shelling out $2.5 million for a game winning TD here and there, even if he could potentially be on the bench the next week, stroking his beard. It's definitely better than $2.5 million for a seven yard slant here and there. |

For those of you who didn't catch this, another take on the Brandon Lloyd saga.

Re: B. Lloyd Possibly Out For The Season
Patten and Lloyd can't be classified as anything more than busts here. I mentioned it about a month ago and I'll reiterate here I think I'd like to see us go after Bernard Berrian in the offseason. Bryant Johnson is a possibility as is possibly Larry Fitzgerald (via trade).
But I really like Berrian and think he's coming into his own now. Another intriguing possibility could be Matt Jones out of Jacksonville. But I think the focus should be on Berrian this offseason (him and Justin Smith :) ) Maybe I'll start a "Five Offseason Moves I Want to See" thread
Smootsmack - any of these guys would be a great addition although I like Bryant Johnson. I know that we have no chance because of our salary cap but what about Andre' Davis of Houston - if we didn't blow our cap on Llyod what an addition Davis would have been. |
Re: B. Lloyd Possibly Out For The Season
Personally I think its a blessing in disguise. The drama is over, no more media questions about Lloyd for the team and coaches. He has never played up to his hype and I think it is a good thing. Im fine with it actually.

Re: B. Lloyd Possibly Out For The Season
We've got a Jimmy Farris sighting!! Comcast Sports Nite just said it. He's at this point the only wide receiver the team is bringing in. Sigh....
At least we won't have a Jimmy Farris sighting....right?
Ah, shit.
For those Redskin execs who patrol these boards...I was completely joking. |
Re: B. Lloyd Possibly Out For The Season
Larry Fitzgerald and Bryant Johnson are intriguing too, but I'm not sure about Matt Jones...
IMO Johnson and Berrian are the best targets. Fitzgerald would require too hefty a price in a trade and I also agree on Jones, he just doesn't appear to give a crap that he is 6'6", 240, and runs a sub-4.4.....yet has only 9 catches on the season. Berrian would give us a legit deep threat with good size, 6'1" - 185 and Johnson is 6'3", 220 and appears to be a very solid receiver. Another UFA target would be DJ Hackett. He appears to have recovered well from his ankle injury, he's young with good size and has shown improvement each year.
I'm not sure about the potential salary cap ramifications of releasing Lloyd. But if I understand Canuck's cap sheets we will take about a $ 3M cap hit in 2008 by releasing Lloyd, hopefully we will have enough space to pursue at least a couple of the above WRs. |
forgive me for being off topic but how many posts to I have to make to not be a camp scrub?
I think it was 150 or 200 for me so you got some way to go bud!!! |

Yeah Llyod was indeed the biggest bust of Gibbs II. Patten was an all pro here compared to Llyod. Sad thing is it is a total loss. I can't see anyone wanting him in a trade now unless he was like an additional freebie along with a high round pick just to get rid of him. HE should have stayed with the 49ers. He might have still been productive there since he thrived in that system. |
Re: B. Lloyd Possibly Out For The Season
In honor of B. Lloyd's contribution to the team, can a moderator please close this thread when the 14th person posts in honor of the 14 measley yards he had. Good riddance.
Classic post. Seriously, I'm glad we get to see Caldwell now. His situation kind of reminds me of Thrash situation because Caldwell was prolific in NE like Thrash was in Philly. I think Caldwell could be a real weapon, and even if one of his eyes pops out he'll be better than Lloyd. |

I am guessing we would take a decent cap hit though. Only way I see us letting go of Llyod on the cheap is if Danny trades down in the draft for more picks and give our #1 or #2 away with Lloyd as sort of a freebie. I like Berrian, but Johnson is taller and appears would be more physical. Too bad about the situation with Lloyd or we could go for both. With Santana seeming to be out of commision for the year with regards to speedster status we really don't have a deep threat anymore. I wish Caldwell could get into more action. McCardell is a gamer and was a nice addition. I think Caldwell will be too once he gets in there. |

Bringing in Caldwell and McCardell sort of negates Llyod, but we still need a tall WR to replace his ass. I don't know of any top notch WR's coming out of college this year. Does anybody have info on the WR crop coming out this year? |

The reason I think Caldwell can work out nicely is because NE's passing game bears a similarity to ours- route running and timing patterns are at a premium. He was Brady's leading receiver last year, and is still young. No reason he can't be a very solid contributor IMO. |
Re: B. Lloyd Possibly Out For The Season
Compare and Contrast:
What would be more beneficial to the Redskins for the rest of the 2007/08 season: Brandon Lloyd on the field for 90% of the offensive snaps for the rest of the season OR The return of Steve Spurrier to the position of head coach of the team? Frankly, even if the price of not having to deal with B. Lloyd for the rest of the season meant a reincarnation of the Ol'Ball Coach on the sidelines, I think I'd take that deal. The one thing you have to say about Lloyd is that he isn't one of the "has-beens" that the Skins have signed in free agency over the past 7-8 years. The reason for that is that he's a "never-was"... |
