Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?

I enjoyed watching Romo and the Cowgirls lose today for the team's sixth consecutive loss in the playoffs. They haven't won a playoff game since the mid-nineties, which is just absolutely pathetic. I really loved that look on Jerry Jones cosmetically enhanced face at the end, just classic!!

As for Romo he continues to prove what a pretender he is! No question that he is a choke artist, and I hope he enjoys his flash in the pan relationship with Ms. Simpson, that's all he's got to hold onto right now.
Don't forget that Romo showed the same drop off the 06 season, at the same point in the regular season, as he did this year.
Exactly right...he came in red hot off the bench last year and lit it up....then stalled out late in the season, and lost the playoff game.....and the exact same thing happened this year!

Not taking anything away from them, they have a good team and had a great season.....but they got lucky in a lot of games this year I thought...and they didn't have that luck today.
0-2 in the playoffs, a 13-3 team gets bounced from the divisional round, what do you think?

Does Romo = choker?
Maybe now he'll start spitting instead of swallowing. What I mean to say is, yeah, he's a choke artist.

Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?

I have to agree with GTripp that this is silly, that this topic will provide little in the way of intelligent debate, and that most of what you will get here is Redskins spewing their hate for Romo and the Cowboys. Calling someone a choker is just an easy way to stick it to the QB of your hated rival. There is very little substance to the claim at all. For example, how ofter was Peyton Manning called a choker before he finally won a superbowl last season? And now that he lost in the playoffs again yesterday is he a choker again?

I have to agree, however, with those who have said that he seems to lack the passion to become the same caliber of QB as Manning or Brady. I wouldn't be surprised if this trend continues, and eventually he is remembered as a vain POS that cared more about what he could gain from football then what he could bring to it. That is what seems to be important about this to me, because McNabb, for example, never got his SuperBowl win (yet, I suppose), and some might call him a choker, but at least the man seems to legitimately care about the game, and what he can give back. So you can call Romo a choker, but I'd rather focus my hate in a more constructive (or destructive I suppose) manner (as many of you have) and criticize him for his worse qualities.

That said . . . ha ha Romo sucks!! Way to blow it again LOSER!!

Thought it was his final five or six games last season. Thought this tail off was nearer the end around the Eagle game. Guess it doesn't really matter. Hope it's a continuing trend.
How about if you lose to Eli Manning in the playoffs, you automatically become labeled a choke artist? Is that enough to convince you?
That's about as concrete an argument as can be made.

I vote for choke artist, and SmootSmack, that was hilarious!

I'd call him Mr. November, if anything. His averages in December and later pretty much blow.

He definitely had help, but he makes some really bad decisions at times. He's kind of a gunslinger like Favre was in the 90s, but without as good of a supporting cast to make up for his bad choices.

To compare Romo to Brett Favre is a real slap in the face to knowledgable football people. He can't even carry Favre's jockstrap. Favre's a future HOF'er and Romo may end up being a flash in the pan.

Well, that's an intelligent post.

There's a difference between comparing styles of play and the actual play itself. "Knowledgable" sports fans know that.

Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?

I don't think he choked and I absolutely don't think the weekender in Cabo negatively affected the game. The problem is they had little to play for in the closing weeks and nothing to play for in week 17. The problem is they listened to the media talk about how good they were (especially Romo) and they coasted through December. Then, when it came time to flip the switch back into "all out effort" mode, they couldn't. For this reason if no other, Belicheck is a great coach and leader. Can you imagine the Pats ever feeling okay after a whooping like the one the Skins gave Dallas?

Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?

He DEFINITELY had help. The Cowboys were penalized 11 times for 84 yards. There were multiple drops. Gurode, who somehow is a probowler, couldn't snap the ball in the shotgun to save his life.

On a day where the Cowboys ran the ball 33 times for 154 yards and a TD, Romo had 201 yards passing, 1 TD, 1 INT. Not awesome, but not horrible. Those 201 yds could have easily been 301 if not for the dropped balls. And the pick wasn't necessarily a bad choice. He had no room to run, and it was 4th and 11. What was he supposed to do, throw it out of bounds? He had to try to make something happen.

I know, I know, it sounds like I'm a Romo apologist. Absolutely not. I just think the team as whole choked, from coaches all the way down. Not just Romo. I do fault him for getting pretty frazzled there at the end though.
