Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
Didn't Snyder himself hint that the Skins would be playing in the HOF game before it was announced? I mean it wasn't exactly a newsflash when the official announcement was made.

When I saw the DS interview at the Super Bowl I was under the impression that we had no choice but to play the game. I mean orders are orders. However the recent reports on this story have me thinking that Snyder went to Goodell and said something along the lines of hey "Hey Rog, we'd be perfect for this game."' |

Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
According to someone with very close ties to the organization (and Snyder) Gregg Williams DIDN'T WANT the job with Vinny Cerrato calling the shots. He said he knows this for a fact. People have been chalking it up to Snyder and GW not getting along, or not "fitting" but this isn't true. Our front office structure ran him out of town, just like it kept a number of candidates from considering the job.
Hopefully Zorn works out, but he'll have to win over the lockeroom before anything else.
According to Synder in yesterdays press conference all of the serious HC candidates said that they would bring in a new OC/DC if hired so therefore Gregg and Al were fired. But from what I hear it is true that Gregg and Vinny didn't get along very well, it seems that Vinny thought he knew more about X's and O' than Gregg and thought he should be calling the shots |

VC is not a talent evaluator, he knows nothing of how to really build through the draft, and I think that is probably the wedge that kept GW from taking the job, he probably wanted a say in how we attack the draft, but with Cerrato in there it allows DS to play GM as well, so GW wasnt going to happen, remember that was why Marty was given his walking papers after 1 season, because he wouldn't let Snyder in on personnel decisions. I also remember a quote right after Spurrier was hired, apparently he went up to Snyder to talk to him about the draft and Snyder told him to basically take a hike and just worry about coaching the offense or something to that effect. |
Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
I don't know about the rest of you Redskins fans out there but Im more than willing to give Jim Zorn a shot at this thing. I hope he can help to turn us around and get us back to championship status. What do the rest of you all out there think, how many are willing to back him? Also I'm glad it wasn't Fassal that was hired but also I hate to think that my feelings posted on here and on ExtremeSkins cost him a job (which according to Peter King of SI is reason Fassal didn't get the job was because of all of the negative response of us fans in these blogs and live chat rooms).
But I do feel comfortable with Zorn getting the job and I hope he doesn't let us down I he can turn things around. |
Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
fassell did'nt take the job for the same reason according to espn!

Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
Wow too bad we couldnt have him over zorn.

Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
GW is a polarizing guy. For every Fletcher who runs through walls for him, you have a Pierce who can't wait to get away from him and succeed elsewhere to prove him wrong. If your info is true (and I question posts like this with no sources other than a guy I know) then it means that he will probably never get to be a good HC. Only coaches with previous rings and almost universally accepted clout are given final say over personnel.
I don't agree with the assessment that Pierce wanted to get away from here. I believe it was Williams who said that we didn't necessarily need him and that Pierce used that as motivation to prove that he was a good LB. I guess Pierce 1 and Williams 0 on that assessment. |

Funny, I wasn't aware that he was even offered the job. In fact according to Vinny, Zorn was the only candidate that was formally offered the job. |

So it was Danny's decision to bring in Weurfel, Matthews, Jacquez Green & draft Taylor Jacobs, all former gators? |
Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
What do you guys think about the skins FO in general? Without getting into specifics (about players and who picked them), I think over the past 5-7 years we have been below the league average in offseason acquisitions and drafting definitely. If you don't agree that we are average or slightly below, do you think the FO has been good enough to get a pass for our losing record over this time period? If not, I would seriously think that Snyder and Cerrato have to accept most (not all) of the blame for this failure. I don't know about you guys but it seems to me that the Redskins win football games in spite of their organizational structure not the other way around. I'm not saying that I blindly believe many of the allegations made by ppl on this thread but forgive me if i'm not skeptical of them or the fact that many good HC candidates did want to stay away from our vacancy.

I see one draft pick there, which failed, the fact is he went along with it, so no matter how you slice it Snyder loses. Either his inability to hire a qualified evaluator, or he is failing himself, take your pick. But I do believe he hired SS to begin with so the buck stops with him. |
