Bryant Johnson would be a great pick up for our team. I know he doesn't have huge stats but he was stuck behind Bolden and Fitz in Arizona. Everytime there was an injury he filled in more than adequetly. He has great hands, he goes across the middle, he can leap, good size, he's young, he knows the west coast system (denny green era), he wouldn't demand a huge contract, and it would free up another draft pick. I know I am going to get called a homer cause he is a Nittany Lion but he was a great college player and would really fill a need for our team.
What he did in college has nothing to do with professional football. He just hasn't shown enough to deserve a big contract. We already paid big $ to ARE and Lloyd and both have never ever shown anything to deserve it. I hope our FO is real careful chasing FA Wr's. But you know someone that has some $ to spend is going to overpay him. I hope it's not us.
Seems like the Lions are engaging in a "tough negotiation stance." However the way I see it, the guys pretty much there for the taking especially with the price for elite WR's set at a 4th round pick. Second Round pick should be enough to "blow them away."

"Other news includes the rumor that Lions wide receiver Roy Williams is on the trading block, and one report said Detroit would look for a second-round pick in return. Williams played for two seasons under former Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz, who's now with the 49ers, so would the 49ers look to make a deal for Williams?"

Should we start a Roy Williams thread, because the Bryant Johnson thread is getting jacked?
No because it's not going to happen. Det. is entertaining offers. That doesn't mean a damn thing. Every team would entertain offers for almost anyone. NE might entertain offers for Tom Brady if someone gave up 5 1st round draft picks.

I would agree that we overpaid for Lloyd because he hasn't done anything more than James Thrash has.

But the ARE contract, $10 million bonus, is about right for a #2 WR these days. I would disagree with the notion that we're not getting our money's worth from him.

I like Bryant Johnson. I think he's ready to step up his game. I also like D.J. Hackett too. Attitude and productivity goes a long way. Randle El;s game is a testament to that.

I would say in general we haven't got enough production out of all the wr's the last two years.

700 yards for a number two isn't bad... but 200 from lloyd in 06 is awful.... I would definately say we're getting our moneys worth for Randle El.. this is only his second year being a true wr and he improved dramatically from 06.

Granted 194 of them came in the first game against miami, but still..

OK, then that's really an indictment of Brandon Lloyd more than anything, and to some extent Santana Moss. But unless you're alleging Bryant Johnson is going to be another Brandon Lloyd, that's no reason not to sign him.

I just don't get your point, it's not making any sense. What are you suggesting the Skins do about it?

My point is this. For two straight years SM has been somewhat average to below average. Lloyd has been a complete 100% bust. ARE has barely over 1,000 yards receiving in two years. So why go out and sign ANOTHER FA WR that is unproven? If we're going to go the FA route to find yet another WR, I'd just rather go out and get a guy that WE KNOW once he gets on the field he's going to PRODUCE. I can't say that about B. Johnson or Earnest Wilford. Why bother chasing guys that we might already have?

You know what? Screw Bryant Johnson! He's just another number in a long line of jackass's that played high school ball in Maryland and then left to go to college out of state. I would include Carmelo with the Yellow, but he grew up in New York so I can't blame him for Syracuse.

Thats right Kevin Durant, I'm talking about you (Born in DC, went to High School in Rockville) and you go to TEXAS?!! Who's in Texas? At least settle for Georgetown. GD. I'm also talking to you AJ Wallace. Derrick Williams. Derrick Harvey. Victtor Abiamiri! Lamaar Thomas! Joe Haden! Anthony McCalin! Tywon Lawson! Uche Echefu!

rather have hackett. he's a better player. really rather have roy williams or CJ ;) but being realistic, hackett or berrian are probably the best available, and zorn knows enough about one of them to make an informed decision immediately.

OK so who, in your mind, is a guy we KNOW will produce?

Randy Moss? Won't get out of New England.
Chad Johnson? Bengals won't trade him.

Do you want to draft a guy with the 1st rounder? Usually takes them 3 years before they make a big impact.

I hear you ragging on guys like Bryant Johnson, but what is the alternative you're suggesting?

I like Johnson...I do think he has the potential to do more on a new team. I would target him and Hacket as free agent possibilities if they can't land a true #1 in trade.

I'm not ragging on Johnson. I just don't think his production is going to match up to his paycheck and we've already got that problem at the wr position. If we were a SB contending type of team then I'd be 100% behind going out and trying to get Moss or CJ. But to be honest we're not that type of team yet. So IMO we need to have 2 more solid drafts and build it that way. Kind of like how SD, GB and Jack do it. Jack is a playoff team and is waaaaay under the cap. They should go out and try and trade for CJ. When and if we get to that point, then go out and get a big time FA or two. How many times have you seen a team go out and try and get these high priced FA's and they still have too many other holes to fill? Look at SF last year? They signed 3-4 guys and they still sucked.
