Can't say that's a surprise, given they signed every RB available in the off-season. Man, what a quick fall from the top for Alexander.
He's going to be 31 in august. It just goes to show you that RB's really do hit a wall when they turn 30.

It is crazy how one can go from TD record holder to being cut. Crazy how it happens.

To be fair, he went from record holder, to a nagging / serious injury, to being platooned, to being cut.

I disagree, I believe that they hit the wall after about 5 or 6 years in the league as a starter, regardless of age.

Excecptions to the rule include Barry Sanders and Westbrook among a few others, but generally speaking...

Portis is entering his 7th season.
Tomlinson is entering his 8th season. (his 6th and 7th he lead the league in rushing and tds)

Right, but they are on the decline. Maybe a more appropriate way of wording it is that they peak at 5 to 6 and begin a decline. Sometimes it is like hitting a wall and sometimes it is steady, but backs do not always last until they ar 30. We shall see about Portis and Tomlinson.

Remember Tomlinson could not finish last season.

I hope the Redskins stay far away form Shaun Alexander. His numbers have continued to go down after Steve Hutchinson left. He can't take a hit. He is getting old. We have plenty of RB depth in Ports, Betts and Cartwright.

I would certainly agree with your revised statement.
Which is why in another thread I posed the possible notion of trading Portis for McFadden.

ps- how come you didn't make a comment on the A5 in that BMW thread I started?

re: Shaun Alexander released by Seahawks

I have never been a fan of Alexander. He had a dream-team offensive line in 2005 not to mention an easy schedule that allowed them to coast to a super bowl (kind of like the cowboys of last year except the Seahawks can win an easy playoff game or two). When their line depleted he got injured, then his #'s went down. And that is his story. I think he is and always was waaaay overrated. maybe the cowboys will give him a whiff... Eddie George anyone??

Shaun Alexander isn't Tiki Barber. They may look alike but it's simply not true. And besides, Tiki is the exception to the rule.

re: Shaun Alexander released by Seahawks

Alexander had a pretty classy statement regarding his release:

"I want to thank the Seahawks and Holmgren for all they have done for me and my family over the years," Alexander said. "I have nothing but respect and affection for the Seahawks staff, my teammates and the organization. I wish them the best."

"I especially want to thank the Seahawks fans," he said. "You made me feel proud every time I stepped on the field as a member of the Seahawks. I look forward to hopefully returning to Qwest Field one day to play against the Seahawks.

"We have made far too many wonderful friends to say goodbye. My family will remain in the Seattle area, and when my days in the NFL do eventually come to an end, I plan to retire here. Our hearts are woven into the fabric of this community, we are blessed to be part of it, and we enjoy contributing to it in every way we can."

"Thank you Seattle."

No one ever accused Alexander of having no class.
I couldn't imagine a better worded farewell statement.
