Re: Boys Will Be Boys: The Glory Days and Party Nights of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty
I would read this book in a heart beat. It's good sutff, particularly if you're a football fan. And let's not kid ourselves. For every Charles Mann, Monte Coleman, Darrell Green, Art Monk and Tim Johnson...we had Tony Peters, Barry Wilburn, Dexter Manley, Michael Westbrook, George Rogers, Timmy Smith and so on. The Redskins had plenty of guys that were just as bad. Our beloved Joe Thiesmann was banging Cathy Lee Crosby in his hotel room during the SB week when we got our asses handed to us by the Raiders. At the time Joe was married and I believe he got caught in the act. That never made it to the press but it's a true story. Doc Walker all but confirmed it on the radio last year.
That's alot different than some of the stuff going on w/ the Da boyz. Alot different. |

Sickening. Jerry Jones covering it up is even more sickening. What makes it worse, that PoS Irvin was inducted to the HoF.....before Art Monk. Most people thought it was fun-n-games when Irvin was getting booed at the HoF induction this year. It wasn't fun-n-games to me, I already couldn't stand that SOB. I knew of the incident but not all the details. Makes every boo I yelled at Irvin worth that much more. |

I wouldn't say a lot different |

No really different. I get a kick out of guys saying how terrible this is when they would give anything to to be on a championship team, knowing you are great, running with the guys, and having a great time no matter what mayhem you cause. Jealousy is an interesting thing. |

wow. I had no idea that had happened. |

It just seems like we hear alot more about drug issues w/ the Cowboys than other teams. If I had the time I'd do some research...maybe I'm wrong. I just don't remember seeing any throat slitting, cocaine possession-probation, coverup, perjury related things on the Redskins lately....or ever. Maybe I'm off base. |

Re: Boys Will Be Boys: The Glory Days and Party Nights of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty
what really pisses me off about this is the fact that irvin was voted into the HOF before any of this shit got out.players cheating on their wives and doing dope some is bad,but not as bad as doing that 24/7 during the season, stabbing a teammate, and then have the owner covering the whole thing up.that's not to mention the withdrawals he had to be undergoing during the game.if that happened during a game,he could have easily died himself.the league needs to investigate this as much or more than they did all that bullshit last year with the pats cheating.makes me hate dallas ever worse than i ever did, even in the george allen era....

So, do you think (a) that people who have affairs should be sentenced to years in prison, or (b) that people who slit throats should get no jail time? Because, if the two acts aren't really distinguishable, you should believe either a or b. I know you think you are the purveyor of truth and the rest of us are blind, dumb, homers, but your perception of the Redskins and Redskins fans is downright comical. You and those blind homers are two sides of the same coin. |

Re: Boys Will Be Boys: The Glory Days and Party Nights of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty
emmmitt smith or troy aikman never did anything like this.michael irvin is'nt anything but a thug, plain and simple.he still can't get away from his criminal self.why do you think espn let him go?he should be sitting his punk ass in a jail cell right beside nate newton.
every cowboy fan i know would think exactly like me when it comes to this.and if a member of the redskins ever did something like this,i'd be saying the same thing about him.but i have yet to hear about a redskin slitting a teammates throat, and getting management to cover it up. |

The story of Ricky Sanders's hit and run, Rafel Cherry's murder of his wife (post Redskins years), Emmitt Smith's story instantly reminded me of Darrell Green of course. With Wilburn, Peters, and Timmy Smith (again post Redskins years) we've of course had our share of cocaine possessors/distributors. I suspect there are worse things that the Redskins have done (that even I don't know, no Charles Haley's as best as I know), and other teams as well. But it seems as though what the Cowboys did back in the day is at another level. And this shouldn't be brushed aside, especially because they claim to be "America's Team" |

Definitely online. On television, I suspect so. I haven't been watching the past couple of days so I can't say for sure.

Re: Boys Will Be Boys: The Glory Days and Party Nights of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty
The book is called "Boys Will Be Boys" by Jeff Pearlman, and it tells the inside story of the Dallas Cowboys championship teams of the early '90's. Kissing Suzy Kolber lists some of the highlights:
* Michael Irvin once wanted his haircut by the team barber. When Everett McIver wouldn't get out of the chair, Irvin did what any reasonable teammate would do, yelled “Seniority! Seniority! Seniority! Punk, get the fuck out of my chair!” and stabbed McIver in the neck with scissors. * Irvin bankrolled a 'Boys charity basketball team called the Hoopsters as an excuse to get guys away from their wives and onto a private jet where they'd bang women of Irvin's choosing. * Haley (who I once heard Fred Smerlas describe as the most despicable person and filthiest racist he's ever met) once bugged Scott Case in a meeting by saying “Scott, turn around, I gotta show you something… Scott, dammit, turn around! You need to see this!” and when Case turned around, Haley had slung his massive penis across his desk. * Haley cut a hole in the roof of Tim Haris' BMW and peed in it. * At another meeting, Haley came out of the bathroom, dropped his pants, wiped his ass and threw the crappy toilet paper at his LB coach. * The Cowboys held position meetings in strip joints and they gave specific instructions to American Airlines that they only be assigned hot stewardi. |
