Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
Oh I remember it very well. Although his stats look very well he was not happy cause he was not allowed to roam around and be the playmaker he was in Chicago. That changed the last few years he was here as Ritchie unleashed him a bit more but it was tough at first. And I didn't say he struggled, I'm saying just cause a free agent is talented doesn't mean he can just come in and fit our scheme and I used Marshall as an example.
Hey ,, I never struggled ,,, WM . I think Ritchie P. actually had Marshall playing strongside backer the 1st year or two , and you are correct , he was not make the " big plays " . But , when Petibon set him loose ,,,, awesome . We need a pass rusher at DE , until we find one , we will not be dominant on Defense . OL should also be our first priority . If we can find a lineman on both sides of the ball and have D. Thomas or Kelly make an impact next year ,, we could challenge for the NFC East Title .
I think you're remembering incorrectly, here's his stat line during his career in Washington:
1988: 133 tackles, 4 sacks, 3 INTs 1989: 108 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 INT 1990: 107 tackles, 5 sacks, 1 INT 1991: 135 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 5 INTs 1992: 138 tackles, 6 sacks, 2 INTs Wilber Marshall Statistics - Pro-Football-Reference.com And just going by what I remember, I don't recall him struggling at all. He was one of the best LBs we've had here.
Wilber was a damn good pick-up for us. Was'nt he one of the first freeagent signings back in the day? All I remember him doing was playing great. One of my favorite players at the time. |

Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
I think we have a 1,3,5,7(?)
I would try and trade some players for draft picks if they hurt the cap. Like Betts and Todd Collins (i have no idea about their cap numbers) You think Betts could get a 4th and a 6th? Then i would trade the 1st pick for 2 picks, hopefully a later 1st and a 2nd or 2 2nd round picks. Then trade the one the 2nd round picks for a 3rd and 4th. Then i would draft BPA: DL x 2, OL x 3, LB, RB |

7th rounder went for Erasmus James.
BJ Raji is a monster. I watched a few BC games this year and he is a total plugger. I'd love to have him. Frankly BC's entire defense was really impressive this year.
Damn your right. He's almost everything I want in a mid first round prospect. Big, tough, with a motor that doesn't stop. Of course theres apparently a concern about his character. 4- Ejected from the 2006 Central Michigan game and suspended for the first half of the Clemson game the following week after throwing a punch at a Central Michigan player. Academic issues and inability to stay eligible raise concerns about work ethic Then again they gave a 3 to Aaron Curry the OLB from Wake Forest because:"Wake Forest didn't start Curry in the 2007 Navy game because he missed a class earlier in the week" According to the scale of 1-5 three is considered average while four is considered below average. Which is fair because I know I can't forgive someone for missing class, but in all seriousness Wake Forest is anal about the character of their players and giving a guy a 3 for missing class just doesn't seem right. Actually speaking of linebackers I wouldn't mind in the least if the team made a strong pull for Rey Maualuga or James Laurinaitis assuming one of them is capable of playing OLB for the time being and at the same time we find a way to get a massive DT that can generate a push up the middle. |

We still have one more game to swipe Dre Moore from the Bucs. Everyone here was commenting on how he was a monster young talent.

Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
according to Zorn....in reference to Suisham;
“The only concern I have is wanting him to start getting into a rhythm. That’s the only concern I have. He’ll just see another kicker to compete against and they’ll go at it. But as soon as he finds his rhythm, I think he’ll be lights out again. according to Zorn ...in reference to Plackemeier; “Remember this: for me, it’s the same issue as Ryan Plackemeier. Here’s a guy with great talent, came in here, was kicking horribly. He knew it, we knew it, what are we gonna do about it? Do we just move him on and just get the next guy in? There’s kind of a group of punters and a group of kickers and they all rotate until they find a home, and what the do when they find a home, you know what they do? They get coached and they find their rhythm.” Hmmm. I thought it was all about "Execution" and now he throws in some new word.........rhythm. We definitly need to bring in some other talent for kicking. If he truely thought it was about coaching he would have found a way to keep the kicker from the draft and (cough, cough) coached him up. |
Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
Before the Redskins even think about bringing someone in, They need to figure out the identity of the offensive line and Defensive Front 7.
It's time for Bugel to step down. I wish him well, He is a legend and I flat out love the guy but just lost touch with todays game. Zorn needs to bring in his guy and decide what type of line they will be and try to get players that fill those roles. Do they want to be a cowboys type line that is built on size and power with 350LB guards or do they want smaller more mobile guys like Denver that can go upfield and cut block linebackers. Some big Aaron Gibson type guys wont cut it in certain systems but could excel in others. The current Skins Oline has 5 guys with mixed talents. The Redskins wont be successful offensively till they get 5 guys who can do the same thing well. The same goes for the redskins Front 7 on the defense. I honestly think the redskins organization are content with the starting Dline. I have an issue with the talents of the linebackers. Typically, The MLB is a solid run stopper who can go sideline to sideline. We are fortunate to have one of the best. They need to decide what they want as outside linebackers. McIntosh is a quick smaller guy who can get in coverage but can get lost in the run game. Blades filled in for washington and did well in run support but was a liability in coverage. In my opinion he is Fletchers replacement at MLB and I think he will be a good one. At outsidelinebacker, He was overmatched. The redskins need to decide if they want larger linebackers that can plug gaps and destroy pulling guards or if they want smaller speed demons that can get around blockers and put pressure on the offense. With our front four mostly filling gaps and not putting pressure, I want to see the redskins pickup a good blitzing linebacker that can replace Washington. In general, I want them to bring in fast linebackers that can always chase down a play. There is no way to complete the overhaul in one year but I think it's something Zorn will have to do if he is going to be a successful coach. |
Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
^we need youth at the D-line. All our lineman that are older then dirt which may only be 2 have some kind of problem. The second problem I see is they are either over sized DE meaning they are slower or they are undersized DT which I think they have problems getting a good push to collapse a pocket. If the line is solely going to stop the run then lets get some people who can collapse a pocket while trying to stop the run. Then other QB's will not be able to escape what little rush we have.

Dude, Sartz played with smarts in college- not much athletic ability. Cush is the real deal- everyone is talking about Rey Rey, but Brian is definitely more consistent. All of our LB'rs are super athletic and play sideline to sideline with a nasty streak. Watch the Rose Bowl on New Year's day and see Cush eat the Baby Lions for lunch. |

you must not watch them play football? thats ok but comparing those two with dallas sartz is a serious mistake and shows me that you dont know talent when you see it. sartz didnt walk in the door at usc in the hieghts of the programs history and start like cushing.....sartz was not 253 pounds and didnt run a 4.6 forty. mathews you could argue but this kid can rush the passer and is an all around play maker......sartz was neither of these guys esspecially cushing.......i think you should look at what you said and wonder why you are comparing sartz to cushing.....the only reason is they went usc, and cushing started over him as an 18 year old freshman.....but really i am not a usc fan just a huge fan of defense and talented ones at that. |
