Re: Do You Think We'll Trade Down In The Draft?

I'm not sure that trading down is the right thing to do. If we had Jimmie Johnson or any other compitent front office type I would be all for it but last year the Redskins traded down and at the time it seemed like a good move but looking back isn't Sam Baker whom the Falcons selected with the pick they got from the Redskins just the type of player everyone is saying we need right now?

Re: Do You Think We'll Trade Down In The Draft?

If we trade down we'll be at 20 or 21 (very unlikely we trade w/ Eagles but u never know) and we could still get an immediate starter because guys are falling in projection. Rey Maluauga is an example as his combine was lousy and evidently he runs the 40 like a DT... he may well be there at 20 or 21. Andre Smith may fall that far and I'll take him in a heartbeat and put him at RT over Jansen/Heyer any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I think what's most important about trading down is that we get the second pick in the second round to have the best shot at coming out of this draft w/ two starters (hopefully RT and OLB). If it's necessary to package our first and last pick to get 1st and 2nd rounders i'm ok w/ that actually as we have 4 picks either way but a 2nd rounder is much more ready to make an impact than a 7th(?) rounder.

... I think Maluauga at 20, the best RT available to us for the 2nd round pick and a guy like Sidbury in the 3rd would be a best case scenario...
I think that trading down for an OT later in the first would be a good move, but has anyone thought about grabbing a backup RB with the 2nd round pick we'd pick up, although it wasn't a very impressive group at the combine maybe a Shonn Greene would be a nice pickup, after all we don't exactly look scary at tailback..
Two Hawkeyes behind Portis. I like, but would rather all picks be OL, DL, and LB.

Definately. If we had 7 picks I would love to see one spent in the mid rounds on a RB, but were a little limited here.

I had a dream last night where we traded down and got Andre Smith. The oracle has spoken .

Sweet. Hard telling how far this guy will fall now. Some experts had him as the best overall player in the draft prior to his little episode.

Episode? Uh-Oh, where are all the "character issue" bloggers? I don't even know what he's done and can see the moral majority will want to pass. I mean if we should pass on Randy Moss, CJ, Bolden, Hall (even though we took him) and Haynesworth, then clearly we need to pass on Smith who is a college kid who has not proven he can play in the NFL.

It's not what Smith did, but what he didn't do. I for one wanted Randy Moss and never really thought that he was a bad charachter guy. Also, I'm not so sure we passed on mr. ocho cinco rather the bungles held on to him, and I would consider him to be a head case.
There are just too many players who fit our needs who will grade out as 1st Rounders. Any of these players could be available when we pick:

OT - Andre Smith, Michael Oher
DT - B.J. Raji, Peria Jerry
LB - Brian Cushing, Rey Maualuga

Personally, I love the idea of having OG Duke Robinson on our team but I doubt that we'd draft him at #13.
No brainer, trade down

To my understanding, Andre Smith said he was going to be at the combine on a Saturday and he wasn't there. Apparently he wasn't going to work out, so I don't know what he was going to do at the combine that day. And apparently being absent without telling anyone was the worst thing he could do in his life.

There you have it. He's got issues. ....just kidding. lol.

No, I watched them talking about it on the NFL network and the lame excuse of how he got confused with Sat. Perhaps I'm missing something but I'm sure players were all brought in around the same time and had a meeting the night before....ie; Thursday. Then Friday they did the physicals, and bench press, and some meeting with teams. I would think each player would have gotten a schedule as to what they were doing and when they had to be there to include wake up and breakfast. Simply put he only weighed in 50 pounds lighter then his pro day which showed he has been working out but clearly he might have been worried he had not worked out enough to impress the media or teams so he conveniently becomes absent so he can work out on his own scheduled day in the future when he's ready.

Well it's not clear but his lame excuse shows he's either not the brightes crayon in the box or he's trying to cover his lack of being in shape. If I were him I would have simply stated my focus has been on my academics and I have not had time to prepare. I will test on another day. Atleast then it would not look like he is ignorant and can't follow directions.

But I thought I read somewhere he wasn't working out, that's the thing that's confusing me.

He didn't work out - SBXVII is mistaken. He announced he was waiting until his pro-day to work out becuase he's "not in shape." That was the part that bothered me. The most important job interview of your life and you purposely decide to show up unprepared.

I like the oracles prophecy, we must have an OT and I keep hearing Duke Robinson's name on this board, but have yet to see it crack any of scout inc's top 32. Am I blind or just stupid that I haven't heard much about him/seen him play??????? Anyone hear that the Skins are trying to unload Horton for a high pick, interesting!
