Him and A Carter play the same position and A Carter didn't want to move. I think D Evans was a better left defensive end anyways and P Daniels would be better also. You can add these guys and more with the 8.5 million in cap room. Maybe a punter, linebacker, O-lineman, and we won't have to trade back in the draft. I like it a lot.
With that cap space we could make at least a couple more moves, correct Schneed?
Absolutely. That's enough room to bring in an impact lineman, an impact LB, a decent punter, bring back Evans, bring back Daniels, and sign the rookies.

Just as one example.

Put it this way: Haynesworth and Hall combined to take up $13.1 million. We have $12.3 available right now - you can fit two huge contracts in that amount of space, or 5 medium ones, or lots and lots of little ones.

It's tons of space.

Julius Peppers anyone?? Just kidding but I think signing Daniels to a 2 year minimum and drafting Orakpo (if available) would be great. Ray Willis is still available and I think Angelo Crowell is out there too. Then we use the third on a LB and the rest on depth(BPA).

Re: Jason Taylor Released
that could be a good thing, but at this point, there arent ANY really good DE or OT prospects on the open market. There a few value LB guys out there, but no one good enough that it would require cutting Taylor. We've just created another hole to fill with one of our 4 draft picks.
With NO 2nd round pick!!!! I got to tell you if there are no other pick ups in Free agentcy there are just to many hole to fill in the draft. Also it real kill any gains by any free agents we picked up last week. We will see what happens in the next few weks!
The Redskins did want to add a clause in Taylor’s contract requiring him to participate in 25 of 39 days in the team’s off-season workout program.

Taylor declined, leading to his release.

Hopefully this does not come back to bite the Skins in the arse, but if it clears room for our needs, then so be it. It would have been nice to see the Jason Taylor of old come forth in '09...but it looks like it wasn't meant to be.

Hmm, now it gets a little interesting. I don't think they had to do this to shed salary cap for their existing signings, I wonder if this is a precursor to a trade or another signing (perhaps a new RT or OLB)?

No, hes still out there, but he's cheap enough we wouldnt have had to cut Taylor to sign him. He's also not a noticable upgrade over Heyer, so i doubt we bring him in.

I don't buy that we would cut Taylor just because he didnt want to work out here at redskins park... we wanted the cap space for something. Maybe we traded our first round pick and something else to Arizona for Bolden and/or Dansby?. Or maybe we're going after Ocho Stinko again? more likely i'm just paranoid. we couldnt be THAT stupid, could we?

That Giamts D line is going to kill us if we don't fix that RT spot!

F him. He said last year that he was not worth the money the was being paid and acted like he would restructure his contract. I am sure that he was at least offered 2 million. And he could not agree on that?

BLESSING IN DISGUISE!!

If Vinny and Danny play this right, we are in position to snag two quality starters and then draft one of the real gems in the draft!!! Mark my words, this free agency season will go down as the one that turned the fortunes of the franchise. Im not saying Super Bowl, but if we address our needs wisely with the extra cap space, we will have the TALENT to turn the corner in the NFC East. Think about it, we were 6-2, without Dock, Haynewsorth, and Hall for half a season. Those three are not enough but if we can steal another piece or two...Wow!

I'd love to see Peppers here with a trade and a long term contract. That boy is a stud. However, I don't think he is fit for a team that would put him in the spotlight. He is perfect for a small market team.

I see JLC is up to his usual self, not one word of the Taylor release as of yet.
