Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
started in 1970, when Lombardi came to town. boy, was it easy to be a fan back then. Coach Allen strolls into town, and it was on. the skins had all those love-able old guys who knew how to win. the rivalry was just beginning to get good. and so were the skins. 1972 was such a good time to be a fan. this, and my best friend is a die hard cowboys fan. but most are right. while i see Mr. Snyder as wanting to win, i guess he just doesn't know how. or putting the right football people in the right places

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
I was a Skins fan before I was a football fan. I've known the words to HTTR since before I knew what a forward pass was. Before SBXVIII we had a pep rally at my elementary school and everyone was so Redskin crazy it was impossible not to live and die with them. To me, the Skins are like family.
I was a casual fan of the Bullets and Caps (went to a lot of games because my father's cousin worked at the Cap Center) but just never felt a passion for them. When I moved to NC I went to college a mile from where the Hurricanes were playing while the RBC Center was being built and now I follow them just as passionately as I do the Skins. I've given up on the NBA and now I'm one of those people who thinks the basketball season ends next Monday. |
Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
Dad's and most of the people I know around here are Eagles/Steelers fans. Just always liked the 'Skins, must be some kind of masochistic tendency.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
Because I live in the DC area.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
my grandfather was a #1 redskin fan. He was in the band in his younger days, and a season ticket holder of course. I was a 49ers fan when I was a youngster but he converted me. Now I am a diehard skins fan!!

I honestly believe that. You can't "choose" to be a fan of a team. You're just drawn to them for some reason, and if you're a real fan you feel a passionate connection that you can't get away from, no matter how many losses they ring up.
I was going to say the same thing. I was only 10 years old when I got hooked. Just fell in love with them during SB XVII. |
Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
I was born and raised in Philly...but I loved the color red when I was a little kid of about 4 or 5 years old. My neighbor said to me "so what are you a redskins fan then?". I said yes and here we are 34 years later...

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
Is this a thread to make us all ask ourselves why we are STILL Redskins fans?? Believe me, it has crossed my mind many times. My mother-in-law asks me every Sunday night. (damn I hate that!) And, she is a Giants fan. BTW, would that be grounds for divorce- a Giants fan in-law???
No, that is not the direction I was trying to go by starting this tread. But, I definitely see why you might infer that I may have started this thread for that reason. I'm not trying question anybodies fandom. I'm just trying to have people reflect on why they became a Skins fan, and share their fond memories that persuaded them to become a fan of the Skins. |
Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
I can't honestly say why I chose to be a die hard skins fan. I was born in 1971 in Northern NM, my entire family is either a Dallas or Denver Fan, according to my mom I started cheering for the skins when I was 4 so the switch was on and I have defended them ever since. I will say that I tend to rub against the grain and just cause someone jumps off the cliff doesn't mean I'm going to. I will bleed burgandy till death!
Outside of the skins living in NM I still remember times that were comical for Dallas fans, like the time they thought they would have an all Texas superbowl when Houston and Buffalo went to the AFC champ. game. Anyone remember that? After that buffalo comeback I was laughing for days! And to think it was Frank Reich that brought the bills back! The last great time for me down here was when Mark B. threw to Moss for those 2 touchdowns and we beat the Cowgirls 14-13. It was also nice to have won the last game in TX staduim, how does that taste Dallas fans? |
Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
It was December '82. Like any other football Sunday I was with my father at a Lions game. I said enough. He said I could'nt switch teams. I did and never looked back.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
My dad was a casual Skins fan but thankfully I've had this love affair with the Skins since birth. My oldest brother is also a Redskins fan but my other brother did the unthinkable and started rooting for the Cowgirls. I blame that all on my cousin who was a big bandwagoner in the 90's and the Cowboys were the cool team at the time.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
I grew up watching guys like Art Monk, Darrell Green, Charles Mann, Jacoby, Bostic, Schlereth, Byner...the list goes on and on. The one thing that all those guys had in common was class. I think that's why I like Jason Campbell so much - total class and has the talent to back it up.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
Born and raised in Jersey City, all my friends were Gi-aint's and Jets fans. But being a leader and not a follower I became a Skins fan because I was a running back and Larry Brown was my idol and since he was a Redskin the rest is history. Mind you since I was a leader I was able to convert many followers to become Redskin fans till this day! "HAIL"
