I have a very hard time believing they're avoiding US owned ships. Better have that Canadian flag ready folks.

Why would you have a hard time believing that. These guys are profiteers, if Filipino crews pay, and American crews fight/shoot, well which group would you go after? (not saying your a pirate at all Saden ;))

If the pirates only go after non-U.S. ships it will make the rest of the world hate us even more. We need to do our fair share in terms of being attacked by these pirates. Especially since it is our oppressive capitalist system that has made Somalia so poor and forced these young people to resort to such measures in order to feed their families.

As a reformed pirate I can tell you that these guys don't care, they're equal opportunity pirates. If a ship is armed and ready to defend itself I am sure that will discourage them from boarding but keep in mind that preventing them from boarding doesn't prevent them from making use of those lovely RPGs, presumably a gift from mom, they're wielding. These are poor and idle men/boys with nothing to lose, a very dangerous combination. Again, if I am American ship I wouldn't feel secure and I certainly wouldn't announce my Americanness.

I used to be like you. Reactionary and hate filled. Then Dmek and Saden and Beemn7 and MattyK72 showed me a better way. We need to all realize that we are the change that we've been waiting for. We shouldn't be striving for an empire where we show the world the way. What we should be after is a world where we can all live in peace and harmony together. A world where love is the standard currency, not the dollar. Not Christian love of course, that would be oppressive. No what we need is a sort of undefined, hippy 60s love based on who knows what that is largely defined by sex and only requires that we all throw aside whatever thoughts and opinions we might have and get with the program. Praise the Lord (not Jesus) I've seen the light.
