Re: Orakpo / Lavar Arrington Compare & Contrast
So he was a bad pick because he was killed?
I'm sure thats not what he meant. I had originally said we had bad luck with the picks (not that they were bad picks), which you questioned citing ST and Landry, and which he subsequently defended. |
Re: Orakpo / Lavar Arrington Compare & Contrast
I think the main difference is, Orakpo has not done a car commercial with Biz Markie:

Re: Orakpo / Lavar Arrington Compare & Contrast
I hope the main contrast is the coaches put Orapko in one position and let the man play football to his abilities and talents. Lavar got bounced from side to side and was up and down. Sometimes you just have to let talented players do what they do best instead of over-coaching them.

Re: Orakpo / Lavar Arrington Compare & Contrast
Speaking of Lavar, it appears that he has become a talent evaluator.

Re: Orakpo / Lavar Arrington Compare & Contrast
Obviously, I see I must have worded the original post all wrong....
What I was saying to compare & contrast is what they do on the field, not off of it. Orakpo will play both DE and LB for the Skins, just like Lavar did. I thought Lavar was much better at DE (His best season was when he played it primarily - 11 sacks), but we needed him at LB, and he whined about playing with one hand down.... Orakpo, they are saying, will play LB on 1st & 2nd down some times, but DE on all 3rd downs... just was hoping people would compare their PLAYING STYLES and what they bring to a game as LB/DEs... To say the only thing they have in common is skins color... pretty lame. |

Re: Orakpo / Lavar Arrington Compare & Contrast
Time will tell with Orakpo. I liked Lavar when he played but since he got out of the league my opinion of him has dwindled.

Re: Orakpo / Lavar Arrington Compare & Contrast
I think Orapko will be better. Orapko, played all four years at Texas, Lavar, came out as junior with a chip on his shoulder. Brian, seems to be more grounded and eager to get on the field and prove what he can do no matter where you put him, and as long as he doesn't have multiple DC's over several years and isn't represented by the Poston brothers all should be good.

In this link, Zorn says something very different. He describes Orakpo as a hands-down DE and is very vague about any LB role. |
Re: Orakpo / Lavar Arrington Compare & Contrast
They are both going to be directly responsible for ending a Dallas Cowboy QB's career.

Yeah i'm not thrilled about the idea of Rak at LB. Sure he could bring some skill to the position, but i think developing him for the long term is paramount and shifting him between positions as a rookie just doesn't seem like a great idea. He ought to be given the opportunity to compete where is skill set is strongest at this point for all kinds of practical reasons. That's probably at RDE. Personally I was encouraged to hear Daniels talk about coming out of college a little undersized for a LDE (had played some LB in college) but w/ a little time he massed up to size. This is my best case scenario for Rak, to see him as a monster LDE who can stop the run and create pressure/sacks with equal prowess; however i defer to the better football minds on this site as to where Rak best fits long term. It's just i tend to see RDE more in the mold of a Jason Taylor, not the strongest guy in the world but always able to slither his way into the backfield for a sack (or just off pure speed). Rak is a physical freak in his strength and whatnot...i tend to think he's "overkill" at RDE if that makes any sense. |

The year he had 11 sacks he played DE on 3rd downs but he never played it as a 3 down player. |
Re: Orakpo / Lavar Arrington Compare & Contrast
here is an insane idea... LaVar coming back. He's only thirty. Think he's stayed in shape and can take playing a little strong SLB for us?
Just throwing it out there. |
