For me, the most memorable incident in the Norv years was Marvcus Patton bitching out Gus on the sidelines in season opener against the Giants in the Meadowlands in 1998. Patton was tired of the failure of the coaching staff to get in a player's grill for stupid mistakes, and the guy had to take matters into his own hands.

Norv is a good coach and I think he's proven that over the years. He just needs a team that is mostly filled with vets and self starters/motivators. If he doesn't have that then he's useless. SD seems to be a good fit for him.

Turner is not a good coach, in my opinion, and one stat makes me say that. In games decided by less than 7 pts this season, he was 2-6. For his career that stat is about the same, at one point he was 3wins 21 losses in games decided by one score. He can win when the talent he has beats the opponents, but when it is close, and coaching comes into play, his teams lose. It has been that way with us, with Oakland, and with SD. Sorry, no love for Turner here.

LOL Turner is a good coach, he just needs a team full of vets that can run itself with minimum coaching and supervision. LOL good one

So you don't think Norv is a good NFL offensive coach? Sorry but I'm going to give Norv credit when credit is due. He may not have been the right coach when he was here cause that was a MAJOR rebuilding job. And no one does good at Oak. But he's been solid at SD. Rivers has turned into a top tier NFL QB and he's taken that offense to another level. He's gotten them to the playoffs two straight years and won playoff games. That's something Marty could not do. The guy got a good year out of Alex Smith for crying out loud. Norv can coach, but as I said he's not the coach for a young team. I bet if you stuck Norv in at NE they wouldn't miss a beat....as long as you had the vets, strong GM and defensive coordinator.

Good coordinator, medicore head coach.

Norv would ruin NE pretty quick, let's not kid ourselves. Saying NE wouldn't miss a beat is a pretty big insult to Belichick, who despite being hated by most fans is a pretty damn good coach, one of the best in fact.

Sorry, Marty built the team Norv is using, and last year the barely made the playoffs, DESPITE playing in an extremely weak division. Norv, is a good OC, but a terrible HC. Same with Wade Phillips, except he is a very good DC. From the comments this has been discussed many times.

Fair enough. I think Norv can be a good head coach with all the pieces are around him. Is he a leader of men/motivator/disiplinarian/ass kicker? No.

Marty couldn't win a playoff game with most of those players and the offense wasn't as good. And either you make the playoffs or you don't. It doesn't matter how you got in. The fact is they got in and won a game w/out one of their best players and the year before they got to the AFC Champoinship. Those are facts. I personally think Marty is a better head coach than Norv but that doesn't mean Norv can't coach.

I think its simple. The Redskins have to make the playoffs. The Skins were 8-8 last year and if they won some of the games they should have they would of made it last season. So going into 2009 season I think Snyder wants to see some improvement. The next goal usually for a 8-8 team is trying to make the playoffs. This team does have enough talent to do it if certain players step up and if Zorn gets better as a playcaller. If the Redskins do not make the playoffs I expect a new coach to come in for 2010.

Guess that means Barry Switzer was a good coach using that criteria.

A lot of guys can be good coaches when all the pieces are in place. That's really not saying much for the coach's abilities.

With all that talent the Chargers are just 19-13 the last 2 years under Norv.
