Re: PFT: LaCanfora to NFLN
Whoa whoa whoa! Wheres Schefter going? I mean if he's leaving I sure as hell had no idea what with NFL Network seemingly becoming NFL Films network during this point in the offseason.
That would be a step down for Wilbon going from co-host to correspondent. Especially when you go from ESPN to NFL Network. Not that NFLN is bad but consider the fact that virtually every cable provider carries ESPN.
Schefter is heading to ESPN. Which leaves them awfully crowded with Clayton, Mortensen, Michael Smith, and now him. Add Paolantonio and Werder and you've got a lot of competition. |
Re: PFT: LaCanfora to NFLN
I guess I'm in the minority here, but I think JLC's opinions are generally on point. To imply that Vinny and Danny are egomaniac boobs isn't a grudge against the team, it is the truth. They are embarrassing, everyone in the league knows it, and it is not the Post's job to paint a sunny picture or make excuses for them. Vinny and Dan have a grudge against the Post because the Post doesn't "report" like the genius Larry Michael. I for one, am glad that the local print media isn't a lapdog for Daniel Snyder. He's an ass and the Post would have no credibility if they didn't occasionally point that out.

You almost made it!! JLC goes out of his way far more than occasionally. It's pretty clear he doesn't like them (Snyderatto). Possibly for good reason. Of course maybe they don't like him for good reason also. I am not sure who started the grudge match but it has clearly become one. Now with JLC losing his grasp on insider info through exclusion and an exodus of sources he has essentially become a commentator. And everyone knows the saying about opinions. He isn't a football guy...he even admits it. Often his football conclusions seemed skewed. He does use knowledgeable sources to provide him a football minded opinion but it seems he only uses them when he wants to make a point about something he perceives the FO did wrong. Rarely do you see him whip out a "league source" when he wants to give the far more occasional chest bump. He comes off to me as a guy fulfilling his own opinions with sources he knows will back him up. Not to say that he doesn't have opinions that are decently grounded but when ALL opinions seem of the negative variety then something is up. |

i agree with that, and dude does go overboard. I'm just saying that the Wash Post is not Redskins.com. I would LOVE to know some of what has gone on behind the scenes between the Post and the Skins. Something definitely stinks, and has for some time! |
Re: PFT: LaCanfora to NFLN
Good Bye JLC. You were always the last one to break news anyway.

Re: PFT: LaCanfora to NFLN
The best part about JLC is how he dresses at press conferences. Seriously, you all should see this guy...with his hat to the back, FUBU shirt, he looks like he would have been Jamie Kennedy's uncle in Malibu's Most Wanted

Do you think he will "bring the look" to NFLN? |
Re: PFT: LaCanfora to NFLN
fubu? seriously? wow.

Re: PFT: LaCanfora to NFLN
I always got the feeling he's a super douche for some reason. Now maybe it was just the stench of poseur.

Re: PFT: LaCanfora to NFLN
two things:
One: JLC let his ego get in the way and fueled a pissing contest. He managed to do this with two great mentors in his office; Boswell and Wilbon - both great writers who can get negative points about teams out with out making it personal. Two: After reading the point his information was diminishing over the last two years, I think that says a good bit about our lockerroom. And as I thought about how many chances we have had over the past few years for lockerroom implosion (IMO fueled at least in part by JLC) we should be thankful for the character on the team right now. One of the real positives we lose sight of. |

Big loss for NFLN. Schefter always seems to have good sources. |

He's got great sources, and also the benefit of the backing of the NFL. Still I think he'll do great for ESPN. Very happy with this addition |
Re: PFT: LaCanfora to NFLN
so.......you were going to say it in negative 206 words ? or would it be negative 34 ? i've confused myself.
My sarcasm meter was broken, giving BHA a hard time because of the length of his posts. |
Re: PFT: LaCanfora to NFLN
I appreciate your willingness to play devil's advocate here, but you can't distinguish between his blogging and his reporting:
First of all, JLCs blog was more than just a place for him to place his opinion. It was titled Redskins Insider and was presented as a place to get inside information on the skins before anyone else. And for a while, thats exactly what it was. However, JLC decided to use his blog to make thinly vieled jabs at the skins. As a result, the skins stopped providing him as much information. So JLC retaliated by becoming more overt in his attacks, going so far as to accuse the de-facto GM of the team as being a slanderer and its owner as essentially being an idiot. As a result, the Skins completely blacklisted him. Not only did this affect his ability to provide inside information on his blog, but it also affected his primary job: For a while, JLC was the primary WP reporter for the Skins. However, because of everything he did in his blog, was left without sources. What reporter can continue to do his job without multiple reliable sources? JLC built up so much ill-will with the Redskins that it ruined his ability to be effective in both his "blog" and his "real job." Perhaps it was all part of a plan to distinguish himself and get his name out there so he could advance to the type of position he has now. If so, he did a marvelous job of it. But what JLC stopped being, a long time ago, was a good source for redskins fans to get inside information about the team. I dont give a crap what a reskins beat reporter (whoever it is) thinks about my team. I don't want his opinion. I can form my own opinion based on the information he provides. If i need help forming an opinion, or want someone elses opinion, i can go to a forum like this one or read a different sports columnists' take on a certain situation. Bottom line is this: that the guy who reports the news shouldn't opinionate on the news - otherwise, his ability to report becomes compromised. Hopefully Jason Reid will take note.
BHA, you provide a good analysis & I agree to an extent, but ONLY IF you're truly prepared to practice what you preach. You say that you don't need any reporter's opinion. Well, true journalism & reporting doesn't involve opinions (except reporting others opinions), but a blog is primarily about opinion. So based on what you said, if you truly don't want a reporter's opinion, then you really shouldn't read a blog by a reporter. |
Re: PFT: LaCanfora to NFLN
JLC had his share of drama with the Skins FO and yeah he took things over the top at times I felt. BUT, I find it hard to think the Skins don't share some of the blame in their little tiff with the WP.
