Wishing the best for Samuels , true warrior for the Skins . As far as OL , Sign 2 in F/A and use one < or both > of our first two picks on the OL . The Jets did just that with drafting Ferguson/Mangold .

Yes, Samuels retirement would be another hole added to the multitude of holes that we need to fill on our team.

LT, RT, Guard, Center (maybe), RB, QB, and possibly CB w/ CR most likely leaving via FA

Personally, it would be a bummer to see CS retire. He's gotta do what's best though.

All of those needs are really making it a downer to be a Skins fan. I would say you can't possibly do it in one offseason - maybe we get one offensive lineman via free agency but the good ones are rarely let go by other teams.

I agree, It's certainly going to be a tremendous loss in the event Samuels can't return, but his future is more important than football.

Temporary fixes are not the answer. Pete Kendall and John Runyan have been mentioned, but there's a reason why Kendall is not here already, the man is 37yrs old and cannot practice due to his arthritic knees. John Runyan will want more than the Redskins are willing to pay, plus we don't know the physical condition of either guy at this stage of the season.

If Samuels' career is finished, we need to look to the draft the same way we got him ten yrs. ago, build the O-line with young men that have an extended future. He's been a great Redskin that has solidified the left side for a long time. It would be great if he could recover.

Schneed/Smootsmack/other knowledgaeable Salary Cap Fans:

Besides just talking about replacements if Samuels leaves what about the salary cap ramifications of him retiring due to injury - is there any exemption to the hit on our cap if the Skins lose him to a career ending injury? If no I looked at the Cap information on this site and in 2010 Samuels release fee is $14.5 million - if the league were to work out a new collective barganining agreement would the release of Samuels basically cause next year to be over before we know it as we would either have to just let go of a lot of expensive veterans or would the Skins FO redo a massive amount of contracts further hampering our cap future?

I have seen a lot of other posters say maybe Samuels retiring is the best thing as it would cause a complete rebuild/flushing out of high priced veterans and using low priced veterans and really using the draft to build the team for several years. Watching the new guys would be tough for the first couple of years but at least us Skins fans would know that we are finally committed to using a different approach of building the team mainly through the draft and using free agency as a suppliment.

What younger guys are you talking about.....? Oh you mean Heyer, I think we know the answer to that Terp project. Ok, maybe as a backup. But certainly not a starter in this league, well except for the Skins!

And Rhino....he's lacking a little confidence, but he really is getting pushed around like a girl. That should about answer that.

Agreed.. we're not in it to win it this year, so go with what you have and see where they end up

The only reason not to is if you're protecting your franchise QB, which I don't see as the case

If this is the end of Samuels' career I'll be sad it ended this way, in the midst of the most disappointing season I've seen in a long time bar none. Health is way more important than football so obviously if he does hang it up I wish him the best. God knows I ain't old enough to judge whether he's been up there with all the Redskins greats but he deserves his spot because he just gave us 10 solid years of left tackle play, which can't be taken for granted in this league.

And I'd love to wish and hope that this would be the catalyst for change that the Redskins need but at this point I wouldn't be suprised if the status quo remained the same and Vinny/Dan kept on keepin' on like they always do.

Monty did fill in fair when RT went down. And he is a center as well.

It will be interesting to see how he holds up this Sunday for a whole game at Right Guard.

I think Casey is running out of time, in the big picture, maybe one more year, best case.

Don't think we have to much in Rhino as of now. Hope he develops.

Good job Vinny. Your dedication to best player available is to be commended. How about we put Devin Thomas at LT. It's not like he's catching passes.

To be fair, Orakpo was too good to pass up.


I do agree that we should have addressed the line before LAST year, but that's in the past.

It's sad to see Samuels end it this way, but he needs to walk away while he can still walk. We've been lucky to have him, Randy Thomas and Jon Jansen all of these years, but the era is over. I believe Randy is finished too. He just can't stay healthy even with his intense training and hard work to get back.
