Re: Remember in 2001 when the Skins were 0-5???
You left out the Lions and the Titans.
There are lots of teams eyeing the bottom of the barrel this season.
The lions are better than we are...they can muster 3 wins with their schedule and they have the tie breaker on us. The titans...you are right there...don't know why they are so awful this year. I have confidence that Jeff Fischer will turn it around and they will win 4 or so. I certainly could be wrong about that though. |

Only games that are winnable are the Rams and Browns and I will not be surprised if the Rams take them this weekend. The Titans can turn it around, but I highly doubt they will. That team is too loaded to be playing with such a piss poor record. |
Re: Remember in 2001 when the Skins were 0-5???
Well, no offense to you or your "man", but he's not of HOF caliber. Sure, his regular season stats are HOF caliber, but his postseason performance is what lost him jobs...in fact, he's one of, if not THE worst postseason coach EVER. And that is saying a lot. He's only 5-13 in the playoffs, that's a .278 record folks. For anyone with 10 or more appearances, only Steve Owen is worse at 2-8. To me, what makes you a HOF coach is not how well your team does during the regular season (and Marty had some KILLER talent over the years) it's getting them to "the next level". We often talk about QB's if they don't win it all, we can't consider them one of the best ever...well, why does the same not apply to coaches? He's never even won a conference championship. From 94-2006, the man didn't win a playoff game, and he had amazing teams in 95, 97, 04, and worst of all 06. How can you explain his ineptitude in the playoffs when his regular season was so great? Of his 21 years, he came in first or second in his division 16 times (including 13 in row). Only came in worse than 3rd place 1 time! So how is it he couldn't win anything significant, and couldn't even make it to a super bowl???
Dude didn't get a SB, but he's been to the playoffs way more than Norv, Spurrier, or Zorn for that matter. Hell he has more playoff victories than all the NFC coaches combined(excluding Holmgren maybe). |

I see them beating the Rams...I haven't seen any team worse than the Rams except maybe the Bucs waaaay back in the day. The rams are not winning again all season. You certainly make a point, but keep in mind, if they beat the Rams and the Browns (which is highly likely) they will have the same amount of wins as I am predicting we will have (and we could lose to the raiders if we continue to play like this and lose all our talented players to injury). They have the tie breaker on us. Still, we are getting a LOCK of top 5 pick. I still say 3rd pick...but I will go as far down as 5th. |

Ummm what? Coughlin - 8 wins Fox - 5 wins McCarthy - 1 win Mora - 1 win Payton - 1 win Reid - 10 wins L. Smith - 2 wins Whisenhunt - 3 wins That's 31 combined wins...vs 5 for marty. ps- Holmgren no longer coaches...just an FYI. |
Re: Remember in 2001 when the Skins were 0-5???
If you are looking for a positive role model of a season I would say the Ravens Superbowl year would be it. Tony Banks incapable of producing a touchdown....they turn to veteran Trent Dilfer who manages their offense. The Ravens defense was legend that year and to be honest I think we have a playoff defense but they would need to start dominating teams and scoring points.
It could happen........but not with JC. |

Marty built solid teams in his day, maybe we should hire him as the GM.

I'll be honest I laughed at Marty when he was with KC. I thought they would be a better team with out him. They did worse when he left. He eventually came to the Skins and I was somewhat excited, then learned about how he was over working the players and they had a meeting to complain to him and he said he would go a little lighter on them. I assumed after he went 8-8 he would get another year to see what he could do with the team....then all the crap about him having VC fired and wanting more authority in the front office fell in line with DS letting him go. Marty goes to San Diego and that team rocks off a few good yrs with him. Winning seasons. I don't care how many stats you show or point out that he can't win the big one....if you don't have a winning season you can't even have a chance at the dance. 2 yrs out of 12+ yrs we have been afforded the chance to, with a winning season, play in the post season. Marty is proven to have winning seasons. He's proven he can get into the post season. At this point I'd be happy with atleast that opportunity vs. what we have been having. "If" DS is honest in saying he and Marty are good friends now and talk all the time then he should honestly explore this option. Speak with MS about taking the GM job and bring his son from the Jets to be HC. Just my opinion. You can't win with out decent talent and MS has proven he knows how to pick talent. My personal feeling is it won't happen though. I get the feeling DS would not have enough balls to contact MS and speak with him about this cause that would make DS look like he was wrong in letting him go. Better that DS looks good then to admit one might have made a mistake. Ownership 101. |
Another key distinction between 2001 and 2009:

Martin Edward Schottenheimer

This is the main reason I hate Daniel Snyder. He's the only owner in the entire league who would've fired a man who went 8-8 after an 0-5 start in his first year as coach. We showed so much promise by the end of 2001. What does Snyder do? He fires Marty and brings in the old ball coach. Moronic hack of an owner... |

He can't coach when the game is on the line, but he knows talent. Let's also not forget he will be in his late 60's, and that's NOT an age you want to hire a HC. |

didn't some other team fire a head coach who went 14-2. It's not all moronic hack thinking. |

How many fans do you suppose were screaming for Snyder to fire Marty at 0-5? "Idiot owner, can't even hire a damn head coach. We're 0-5 with that loser Marty!!! Sell the team Danny Boy. Listen to the fans!" |

Well I remember Marty trying to make DG28 participate in the summer, don't recall the exact drills, and also how Marty was trying to tell DG28 how to play CB. I remember that caused quite the uproar. |
