Re: Would Shanny prefer Dallas instead?
Smoot, what do you think the chances are we get Shanahan? Or, put another way, what are the chances Jerry Jones DOESN'T want Shanahan?
Tough to say. San Diego is out now that they're going to (if they haven't already) give Norv Turner a contract extension. Bears are a longshot with the money they have tied to Lovie Smith and they're frugal habits. So that leaves Houston, Dallas, and DC as the most likely. And I think all have a pretty equal shot. Dallas is closer to home for Shan Wow (Matty chose not to include my new nickname for Shanahan when he posted my text to him. That bastard-I'm adding him to my ignore list), and they already have a strong running game as well as Tony Romo (who Shanahan is a fan of, both are Eastern Illinois guys). So that's their advantage Houston has probably the least "intrusive" owner and already has his son and many of his other former assistants on the staff. So that's their advantage. The big question is really if JJ is willing to eat the cost of Jason Garrett or if he can convince Shanahan to keep him on the staff. Gun to my head today I'll say Shanahan ends up here. Cowboys either promote Garrett or bring back Mike Zimmer to be the head coach at a fraction of the cost they would pay someone like Shanahan. And Houston either stays with Kubiak if they make the playoffs, and if not goes after Bill Cowher (and short of that Leslie Frazier) |
Re: Would Shanny prefer Dallas instead?
Interesting. I dont think money will be an important factor for Jones. According to PFT, he was offering to pay $25MM to host a boxing match there. I think a lot of what Florio writes is total crap, but i think he was on the money when he opined that Shanahan was just using Snyder to force Jerry Jones' hand.

Re: Would Shanny prefer Dallas instead?
Am I the only one who finds it laughable when people say that Snyder is more meddlesome than Jerry Jones? I mean JJ is the freaking GM of the team...shit, he probably tells Grimace Phillips what plays to call.

Well one argument against Snyder is that at least Jones is up front about being General Manager, instead of hiding. But that's those that believe that Snyder is overly meddlesome, as opposed to just an involved business owner |

I hear what you say. However, unless someone in here has intimate knowledge of what happens behind closed doors at Redskins Park, to our knowledge Snyder has had other people involved in the decision-making process like Vinny and Joe Gibbs. Jerry Jones doesn't have a GM, he is the GM, he makes all the decisions. Snyder is a meddlesome owner, more than any owner, except Jerry Jones. |

EDIT: holy cow, I just saw that she died of a heart attack. At 32 years old. Terrible.
~~~~ I have wondered for awhile if she did not have an eating disorder, that could lead to cardiac arrest as well. |
There are a lot of "meddlesome" owners, but most aren't as public as Snyder. As the years go by it's increasingly difficult for me to have direct sources inside Redskins Park and I'm no longer working down there so I'm not in the locker room or at Redskins Park like I was seven or so years ago. So yeah I don't really know the absolute extent of what is going on now. I know that Scott Campbell is very, very involved in the off-season and Mo Brown during the regular season. I know that Schar and Fred Smith have input as owners (not as much the other owners). But anyway, yeah I think Jones is more of a "one man band" than Snyder. Won't be popular for me to say, but Jones is a sharp man. Very intelligent. Not sure he should be the GM though |
many would think they are both too involved, but atleast jerry jones has some actual football knowledge and background, snyder knows how to run a telecomunications company jerry jones may be medelsome but he has had enjoyed successes as a medelsome owner, snyder has not |
jerry jones may be medelsome but he has had enjoyed successes as a medelsome owner, snyder has not
I would put Jones first and Snyder second (in regards of being meddlesome). I'm curious to know, was JJ this involved when Jimmy Johnson was the HC? Just curious. |
I don't think so. I think that was the big thing. Jones wanted more control and thought he didn't need Johnson so they went different ways. Al Davis, Ralph Wilson, Bud Adams, Mike Brown, Zygi Wilf, all examples of "meddlesome" owners. Though Adams seems to have only become one in recent years perhaps due to his advancing age. |
Interesting...so I guess the argument someone earlier saying that Jones has been successful as a meddlesome owner is not that strong, huh? Lol, so you would put Al Davis behind both Jones and Snyder? |
Re: Would Shanny prefer Dallas instead?
While it's debatable which owner is more meddlesome in terms of personnel, I don't think it's debatable who makes a better owner. Snyder, though seemingly making some better decisions as of late w/ the Vinny for Allen swap, has time and time again shown zero class i.e. total lack of professionalism. His "office" had to crap on Williams before the guy left instead of taking the high road. One way or another Snyder has allowed this shit-show of demeaning Jason, or Zorn, or whomever w/ a million inquiries and quests to land different players or coaches.
For a middle-aged man he seems unbelievably immature in his professional business. I'm not questioning his smarts, obviously he made a fortune in the communications gig and then stepped right into a gold mine w/ devoted fans willing to fork over cash year in year out for a failure. But when it comes to the relationship side of his business I mean...yeah if I was Shanahan I'd prefer Jones and the roster he's assembled over Snyder and the roster he's assembled. Again, how many guys can put down a Snyder gig as a plus on their resume? Does Vinny work for another franchise the rest of his life? Would Williams be closer to an HC position (or already be there) had he spent those 4 years proving his abilities to a different owner? |
No one is worse than Al Davis, his coaching staff has absolutely no say when it comes to personal. I couldn't imagine Jones or Snyder calling in plays during an actual game either. |
