I said this before but only thing I'll accept right now for Chris Cooley is a 3 way trade with the Chargers that brings us Marcus McNeil.

Chargers get: Team X 2nd Round Pick
Redskins get: Marcus McNeil
Team X gets: Chris Cooley.

Other then that I would feel more content trying to move Fred Davis.

Why would SD trade its starting LT for a second round pick? McNeill has started since his rookie year and performed well.

The reason teams do anything like that, money. They're hesitant about paying him as a top teir left tackle.

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????

^Yes, it could be done for money reasons. San Diego has let good players go before simply because they did not want to pay a premium price tag.

But the scenario would also work if it were a 1st round pick, or a 2nd plus a 5th, or whatever.

amazing a trade cooley thread and 90% of the posts say keep him, glad to see it's not 50/50 anymore and people are coming around to the idea of having two kick ass te's next year, that will be the biggest threat our o has imo

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????

If we trade Cooley it should be for a position of greater need than WR. I'd hate to see Cooley go but if it went to a guy that could help shore up our line or something I could understand it.

I seem to recall the huge buzz of 2 TE sets before this year too...

Yes , and we hired a new coach 29 years ago that had " some " success in the 80's running a two TE set ..........

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????

I say trade him because Brandon Marshall is better than all of the receivers we have combined. No receiver I can recall has had a 200 yd. reception day since probably Charley Taylor. Shanahan has to have at least some players that he drafted while at Denver. Why not get the best.

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
I'd really like to see what Shanahan would do with 2 pass catching TE's. Imagine Moss in the slot. Thomas and Kelly at #1 and #2, and Davis and Cooley going out for routes. Not to mention the availability for a RB to go out.

Plus we need OL, OL, OL. What I have read though is that (Rumor mill) Shanahan likes 1 pass catching TE and 1 blocking TE. Cooley and Davis are not blocking TE's so one might end up gone. Yoder is not that great as a blocking TE in my oppinion. I guess I could stomach losing Cooley if Shanahan felt he needed the WR. So long as they get their blocking TE.

Again why not T.O. if you so hung up on a big WR? He's a FA. No trades. No draft picks. Plus Shanahan tried to get him while in Denver.
I prefer to imagine all of that minus Cooley and with a pro-bowl Left Tackle or RB drafted using the pick we got in return for trading Cooley;) No one has won the Super Bowl because they had 2 elite TEs.

I believe Rod Gardner had one. Should tell you how irrelevant that is;) Can't argue with BM's full body of work though.

If anything, the NFL seems to be shifting to either a wide-open passing league, or quirky, option/Wildcat variations.

The league's offenses are evolving right before our eyes. Two TE sets don't appear to be one of them.

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????

It comes down to character and team chemistry. Obviously, Marshall has some issues in this department. Let's build around some key guys and not get caught up in past mistakes. Cooley is a good team guy. Why get rid of a "redskin" kind of guy?
