Re: Could the Skins have the best offensive line in the division?

Sorry, you can't go from worst to best with the acquisition of one top draft pick and one pro bowler. If you throw in the TE then we aren't bad, but the best? Come on, we sucked last year. The rook has yet to play a down in the NFL so God only knows if he is going to pan out. He most likely will, but not in a way to make our O line go last to first in a span of one season. Brown was the best acquisition via FA in a long time, and yes I am including McNabb in that, but we just plain have no depth. Other than our two newbies who do we have that is really all that great?

Yes you can. All that is needed is the O-line to hold off the D-line for 2 seconds more than last years line. Dont forget we have a QB that can make his mind up and throw the ball. 2 seconds will make your line go from last to top 10 in a heart beat regardless of playing time.

I believe we can do it. We just have alot of ifs is all. But it is possible by the end of the year to have a top tier unit.

Re: Could the Skins have the best offensive line in the division?

Yeah, but you only have 3 new guys to work with, and the one G from Minnesota is an older vet. The rest are either bums or guys that are injury prone. Also, thus far in the preseason rags, all we have done is go from being predicted dead last in the division as we have for basically the past 4 years, to being almost unanimously picked 3rd, so obviously a lot of sportswriters don't think our draftee or Pro Bowl acquisition are going to propel us to being all that special. Our problem has more to do with depth than anything.

We needed to draft another linemen or two. We didn't need that small WR from UCLA and that TE was a wasted pick as well.

Re: Could the Skins have the best offensive line in the division?

IDK that TE looks like a beast maybe he can do something in Special Teams. That small WR I believe will be a return guy. Lets just pray that these two can help out on ST because we all know we've lacked a certain pop there.
I'm not pessimistic. The truth is that our OL isn't ready to be compared to the other OL's in our division at all. Hell, it hasn't even been born yet!

Who is our RG? We think it will be Hicks but we don't know.

Has Brown played a down with this unit yet? No.

Has T. Williams played a down in the NFL? No. In fact, he hasn't even signed a contract yet.

Are all of the holdovers playing in a new system? Yes.

Have they played a down in that system yet? No.

Etc.

I hope they'll be good but I don't know yet. And you don't know yet, either (no offense meant). Nobody knows.
Of course no one knows for sure, but heck its early July. I would say that if our 5 OL play at their expected ability then one could make the argument for our line. And we should certainly see the most improvement within the division. In fact, it may be a case of the other teams OL's effectiveness dropping as much as our OL improving.

Here is an interesting link to a fantasy football site that has all the teams listed and their expectation of their OL for 2010:

This is such a glass half empty post. We actually added 5 total lineman, and 1 TE who looks to be a bone crushing blocking TE(hopefully). So that is 6 new faces. 2 top talent OT's; one consistent performing OL who has played OT and OG; a C who was expected to go higher, an OT who protected his Left Handed QB's blind side most or all of his college career, and a bone crushing TE. Basically, it looks like MS/BA added a ton of depth and quality starters to the ends of our line, I believe the middle of the line was fairly solid, but if the ends need help every play the middle is going to collapse!

How is it ridicoulous? We have b*t*hed moaned and complained about our O-line needs for years. Now that we are starting to address these issues makes this a righteous thread IMO.

Man, I don't get why some are so uptight whenever something positive is said about the team. Of course it's ultimately going to come down to what happens on the field, but what's wrong with talking about what could possibly happen?

Seriously. I think we could have the best offense, the best defense, the best special teams and win the Super Bowl. Is it likely? Probably not, but who cares? Why not think big and think positive? What good is being a fan if you're not going to get excited?

Ok, ok...maybe it is not ridiculous...but it sure is unlikely.
Rookie LT, injury prone RT...RG to be determined, center is average RG is a bit above average, most have never played together...we have a completely new offense with a new blocking scheme, with a new QB....not to mention a new oline coach...and the vast majority have not played nor coached in the NFC east....on top of this....we had the arguably the worst offensive line in the franchise for 25 years....oh yeah....our oline is the BEST!

take it easy on me....I just thought I'd throw in some valid reasons that our line is in radical transition at this point..is it possible that they will be the best...yes....but highly unlikely. The best olines have been playing together for 3+ years with the same coaching. I'd expect the best result is to achieve a decent to good oline....say the 12-15th best out of 32...that is a MASSIVE improvement from 28th-32nd last year.

So don't call me a debbie downer. I expect solid improvement. I just dont expect miracles.

I am not uptight about being positive. Finally, we have a decent FO that is providing real talent and Snyder is not scheduling his own press conferences. It is a Great start! That is positive.

But saying we may have the best line in the division in July after a 4-12 season...that is reverting back to our old ways of Snyerratto days.
Since Snyderraatto took over the team 10 or so years ago, we have been the kings of talk. Kings of of signing the big free agent and trying to create a big media splash. Kings of the press conferences. Talk talk talk.....we were named the Champions of the off season.
Last year (first half of season) we were the laughing stock of the NFL on the field.
We finally have some positive things, why spoil it by saying things like we have the best OL in the division? That is not positive, that is stupid.
Can we once just develop into a great team and not try to convince ourselves and others in the process. Let it happen on its own.

You do realize this was simply a topic that came up on NFL radio. How is talking, which we do a lot of in the off-season, spoiling anything??
